Cordless scarifier buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You are choosing one cordless scarifier for a UK lawn, and the sticker in front of you may be a body that will not start. A cordless scarifier buying guide has to settle the batteries before the brand name, because a shelf price of about £104.95 on amazon.co.uk is not a machine you can switch on. The checks stay in one order: packs, drum, depth, width, then the bag. The six-row table is the [cordless scarifier comparison](/hub/lawn-and-garden-equipment/cordless-scarifier). This page does not name a top pick. Peter F. used the amazon.co.uk listings from 22 October 2026 and did not scarify a lawn for this guide. Batteries before the brand

Start with what has to be in your hand on the day, not with the largest voltage on the title. A body-only price is never a ready-to-run price. The Einhell GC-SC 18/28 Li at about £104.95 needs one 18 V Power X-Change pack, and the battery and charger are sold separately. The Einhell GE-SC 35 Li, the Ryobi RY18SFX35A and the WORX WG855E.9 each need two packs at once. The two about £169.99 kits put two 20 V packs and a charger in the title. The Ryobi spec line says one battery while the bullets and UK reviews say two. Kit packs are not stated as Power X-Change, ONE+ or PowerShare. Minutes stay on cordless scarifier battery life. Body versus a complete box is on cordless scarifier battery included.

Drum and depth

The drum touches the lawn, and aerator on these listings does not mean a hollow tine. Blades cut thatch. Springs comb moss. A second roller is useful only when it is in the parcel. The Einhell 35 cm includes a blade roller and a fan roller. The WORX, the Bluemars and the EcoBuild claim a second drum, and a short review history cannot prove every box. The Einhell 28 cm and the Ryobi include the blade drum only. If you need cores, none of these six is the tool. Keep the first pass high. Stihl UK puts a normal blade setting at about 2–3 mm, and about 4 mm only on a neglected lawn. Test a strip. The afternoon, including a dry lawn and when to stop, is how to scarify a lawn. If you like the moss, you can leave it.

Width, weight, and the bag

Width runs from 28 cm on the light Einhell to 35 cm on the larger Einhell and the Ryobi, 36 cm on the WORX, and 38 cm on the two kits. Narrower and lighter suits a small garden. The 28 cm Einhell weighs 6.65 kg before the pack. The Bluemars weighs 15.4 kg and is still a machine you push. A wider drum fills a bag sooner. Expect to empty the collector or to rake. The Einhell 35 cm includes a 28 L basket that UK reviews often call too small. The WORX claims 40 L, and Gardeners' World watched that box fill in under a minute. The kits claim 50 L. The Einhell 28 cm and the Ryobi do not include a catcher.

What to ignore on the listing

Some lines should not decide the purchase. The Einhell 35 cm carries a bullet about a 28 cm suction nozzle. That sentence is vacuum-cleaner copy. The spec table says a 35 cm cutting width. The Einhell 28 cm item type says aerator while the style name is Scarifier Only. If you want one pick, with the score rule in the open, that is the best cordless scarifier page for this set only. Hire when you need cores, or when the lawn is too large for the packs you own.

Common questions

What should you check before the price?
Check whether a battery and a charger are in the box, and whether the machine needs one pack or two. In this set the about £104.95 Einhell still needs one 18 V Power X-Change pack, and three dearer bodies need two packs that are not included. Add the packs you do not already own before you compare stickers, and read the style name as well as the title.
Do you already own the battery family?
If your mower or trimmer is Einhell Power X-Change, Ryobi ONE+, or WORX PowerShare, the matching bare scarifier can share those packs. The 28 cm Einhell uses one pack. The wider Einhell, the Ryobi, and the WORX use two at once. The Bluemars and EcoBuild kits include their own 20 V packs, and the listings do not say those packs fit the three families above.
Do these scarifiers pull cores?
No. On these listings, aerator means a second roller, springs or blades, not a hollow tine that lifts a plug of soil. A UK review of the WORX says the aerator head is a blade. The Einhell 28 cm and the Ryobi sell the second roller separately. If water sits on the lawn after rain, scarifying will not drain a hollow. That job is a fork, a hollow-tine tool, or a contractor, and none of the six widths changes that.
How deep should the first pass be?
Stihl UK sets a normal blade depth at about 2–3 mm, and about 4 mm only on a neglected lawn. Keep the first pass high, test a short strip, and raise the drum if the tracks look ploughed. Ryobi UK tells you to work on a dry lawn and not to scarify wet grass. The millimetres for each notch are often missing from the amazon.co.uk table, so the lever on the machine matters more than a guessed number.
When should you hire instead of buying?
Hire or bring in a contractor when the lawn is too large for the packs you can carry, when you need cores, when water sits after rain, or when the grass looks diseased. A new lawn that is not yet established should wait. RHS practice is also to leave moss if you are happy with it, rather than treating scarifying as a duty.
