Cordless grass trimmer buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You are looking at a row of cordless strimmers on amazon.co.uk, and the titles all sound as if they finish the same lawn edge. The shelf price, the volts, and the cutting width are not one ranking. This cordless grass trimmer buying guide puts the cutter and the battery first, then the platform, then the width. The [cordless grass trimmer comparison](/hub/lawn-and-garden-equipment/cordless-grass-trimmer) is the model table. This page is the order of decisions, not a single winner. Prices are the saved amazon.co.uk figures in GBP. Peter F. checked those listings in October 2026. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What you are actually buying

A cordless grass trimmer finishes the strip a mower leaves: the edge against a path, the fringe around a bed, the tuft the mower cannot reach. It is not a mower, and a 15 cm head will not replace one on a whole lawn. The same job is sold as a strimmer, a grass trimmer, and sometimes a brush cutter. A UK buying guide asks first whether the battery and charger are in the box, because a pack on its own can cost as much as a cheap tool. Voltage comes after. 18 V and 20 V are usual single-pack labels, and width is a band rather than a trophy.

Line, plastic blade, or metal

Three cutters show up here, and they are not interchangeable. Nylon line gives way on a stone or a wall, which is why the Bosch EasyGrassCut 18V-26 and the WORX WG163E are the line listings. Plastic knives, on both Einhell GC-CT 18/24 Li listings, cut light grass in the open and do not need a spool. Metal blades and circular saws sit in the kits around £28 to £40. A metal edge looks stronger and is the wrong cutter against paving. The full split is on strimmer line or blade. For a first buy against a path, start with line or plastic blades.

Width, edging, and weight

In this set the line tools print 26 cm on the Bosch and 30 cm on the WORX. Both Einhells print 24 cm. A 30 cm head covers more per pass and is clumsier in a tight bed. The Jwdj cell says 120 mm, the Wrneaoch says 15 cm, and other cells say 6 inches or 5.9 inches. Those are not 30 cm heads. Bosch edging is a click and a twist. WORX includes an edger wheel. The Bosch weight cell is 1.9 kg without a battery, and the WORX cell is 3.87 kg.

Battery in the box, and the platform

A body-only price is a tool price. The Bosch is about £63 with no battery and no charger. The Einhell body is about £48.43 for Power X-Change. The Einhell kit is about £51.54 with one 2.0 Ah pack and a charger, and the style cell says Old Model. The WORX at about £79.99 states a charger, but the style name says two 2.0 Ah packs and the box line lists one. Both stay. 18 V and 20 V MAX on that listing are one PowerShare label. Minute claims are on cordless strimmer battery life.

How to use the comparison table

Stars do not decide the cutter. This comparison multiplies the star figure by 20 and takes 8 points off when the count is under 100. The Bosch, at 4.5 from 2,848 reviews, lands at 90. The WORX is also 90, with 1,921 reviews, so the Bosch wins the tie. The Jwdj at about £27.86 is best value only as the lowest saved price among scores of 84 or higher. That is arithmetic, not a verdict that a 120 mm metal head is the better edge tool.

Common questions

What should I check before the price?
Check the cutter and whether a battery is in the box. An Einhell at about £48.43 and a Bosch at about £63 are body-only, so the pack is a second purchase if you do not already own that platform. A kit near £28 can include batteries and still be a small metal head. The saved price is not a promise that the lowest shelf finishes your edge.
Is 30 cm always better than 24 cm?
No. A 30 cm head covers more grass per pass and is harder to place in a narrow bed. A 24 cm Einhell head is the slower edge on a small lawn and the easier one beside a flower. Kits at 120 mm or 15 cm are not a bargain version of a 30 cm line head. Match the width to the strip you walk.
What is a body-only strimmer?
Body only means the tool is sold without a battery and, on these listings, without a charger. The Bosch at about £63 and the Einhell at about £48.43 are that offer. You add a Bosch 18 V or Einhell Power X-Change pack. If you own none, compare the kit price, even when the body-only shelf looks lower.
Is 20 V MAX more powerful than 18 V?
Not on the WORX file. The same bullets print 18 V and 20 V MAX for PowerShare. It is one label, not a ranking against the Bosch 18 V tool. A 21 V title is also not a win when the battery cell says 9 V or 12 V. Read both lines before you treat voltage as power.
Do I need an edging mode?
You need a way to hold the cutter along a path, either by turning the head or by using a wheel. Bosch states a click and a twist. WORX states an edger wheel. The Einhell body states a rotating head. If the listing never names edging, do not assume a wheel is in the box.
