Cordless grass shears buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You are looking at a row of cordless grass shears and the price does not say whether a battery is in the box. This cordless grass shears buying guide is the spec that changes the job: the fringe you cut, whether a pack is included, the grass-blade width, and the weight in your hand. Voltage comes after that. An 18 V body still needs a pack and a charger before it cuts anything. The full table is on the [cordless grass shears comparison](/hub/lawn-and-garden-equipment/cordless-grass-shears). Peter F. read the amazon.co.uk listings on 22 October 2026. No lab test. A qualifying purchase through our links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Start with the job, not the voltage

A cordless grass shear in this set is a one-handed tool with a short reciprocating grass blade, and almost every listing adds a short shrub blade. Reviewers on amazon.co.uk use that pair on grass the mower missed and on soft shrubs. They do not clear a weedy bank, cut brambles, or take a long hedge down a fence. If the patio grass is already short and dry, a palm shear matches the job. If the edge has collapsed, the Royal Horticultural Society describes a half-moon iron for the soil face, then a trim after mowing. That routine is on the cordless grass shears for lawn edges page. A stem much thicker than about 8 mm is where a review describes a jam. A higher voltage does not turn an 80 mm grass blade into a brush cutter.

Three ways the battery is sold

The shelf price hides three layouts. Integrated tools carry the cell in the handle: the Bosch EasyShear at about £42.95 and the WORKPRO W159022 at about £26.80 on the 22 October 2026 captures. Body-only 18 V tools are the Einhell GE-CG 18/100 Li Solo at about £52.98, the Bosch AdvancedShear body at about £76.94 and the Ryobi RY18GSA-0 at about £71.39. None includes a battery or a charger. The AdvancedShear kit at about £107.46 includes a 2.0 Ah pack and charger AL 1810 CV. WORKPRO includes a USB-C cable and not the charging brick. The EasyShear included line does not name a charger, though Bosch's GB page lists a micro USB cable. Who each layout is for is on the best cordless grass shears page.

Blades, tooth gap and the figures that clash

Grass-blade widths in this set sit at about 75–120 mm, and shrub blades at about 120–200 mm. BS EN IEC 62841-4-5:2021+A11:2021, current on 12 February 2024, covers grass shears up to a 200 mm cutting width and does not cover hedge trimmers. Several captures disagree with themselves. The Isio cutting-width field says 8 mm, while the title says 8 mm tooth spacing and a bullet says an 8 cm grass blade. The Einhell table says 20 cm while the highlight says a 100 mm grass blade. The Ryobi table says 10 mm while the included line says 120 mm. The Isio weight is 350 g on amazon and 0.550 kg on the Bosch GB page. Keep both. Up to 40 minutes, or up to 85 m² per charge, is a listing claim, not a cut measured here.

Weight, waste and what you still have to check

Listed weights run from 370 g on the WORKPRO to 1.7 kg on the POSENPRO 12 V. The EasyShear is 530 g. The 18 V tools sit around 0.9–1.45 kg, and AdvancedShear reviews say the tool feels heavy once the pack is fitted, especially overhead. A light integrated shear is easier in one hand, and you cannot slide a fresh pack in when the cell fades. A built-in lithium cell makes the whole tool electrical waste. GOV.UK says not to bin a lithium pack, and a built-in cell is collected as WEEE. Einhell prints a two-handed safety switch. Several others leave the switch unknown. Choose an integrated shear if you own no 18 V platform, and a body only when that pack is already on the shelf.

Common questions

Do I need the battery in the box?
You need a battery in the box if you do not already own a matching 18 V pack and charger. The Einhell at about £52.98, the AdvancedShear body at about £76.94 and the Ryobi at about £71.39 are bodies only. If that pack is already charged in the shed, the body-only price is the fair comparison. WORKPRO still needs a USB charging brick you supply yourself.
Is 18 V stronger than 3.6 V for a lawn edge?
Not in a way you can read off the voltage alone. Grass blades in this set are about 75–120 mm wide whatever the pack says. Reviewers on the 18 V AdvancedShear still say the grass head knots unless the lawn is already short. An 18 V body helps when you want a shared pack and a shrub blade around 200 mm. It does not turn the shear into a tool for long grass.
What does an 8 mm tooth gap mean?
It is the opening between the teeth, not the width of the grass blade. The Isio title and the POSENPRO 7.2 V bullets print 8 mm spacing. Soft green stems around that size are the working range reviewers describe. A thicker, woody stem is where an EasyShear review reports a jam. Do not read 8 mm on the Isio table as an 8 mm wide cut.
Why do two Isio weights exist?
The amazon.co.uk table for the Isio (0600833173) says 350 g. The Bosch GB product page for the same model number says 0.550 kg. This guide keeps both, because merging them would invent a figure the sources do not share. Use 350 g on the amazon listing, and 0.550 kg on Bosch's GB page.
Can the shrub blade replace a hedge trimmer?
It can tidy a small soft shrub. The shrub blades here are about 120–200 mm, and the grass-shear standard stops at a 200 mm grass-cutting width and excludes hedge trimmers. Reviewers on the AdvancedShear say the hedge head feels less powerful than a full Bosch hedge trimmer. A fence-length hedge or work above shoulder height is a different tool.
