Cordless or corded Bosch multi tool

Updated: October 2026

You are looking at a Bosch oscillating tool, and the cordless prices sit near or below the corded set. Cordless or corded Bosch multi tool is the wrong question until you notice that five of the six amazon.co.uk listings are bodies without a battery, and only the PMF 220 CE set runs from a socket. The [Bosch multi tool comparison](/hub/lawn-and-garden-equipment/bosch-multi-tool) holds the six rows. This page is one condition: no Bosch battery and a nearby socket, choose the set; a matching pack already owned, or a cut away from a socket, choose the cordless body. The prices are not the same kind of offer

Read as offers, the five cordless figures are bodies. None of those included lists contains a battery or a charger. The PMF 220 CE set is about £103.95, a 220 W corded set, model 0603102071, 4.6 from 464 reviews, with a case of accessories. BuildWiz argues that a cable is the rational default if you own no platform, and that a body is right if you already own the packs. This comparison does not invent a UK battery price. Until a pack and charger are already yours, the about £71.94 body is not cheaper to own than the about £103.95 set. If the work is in a loft, on a fascia, or where the mains is off, a body on a platform you already own is the tool that still runs. Which colour of pack, if you are unsure, stays on the Bosch multi tool buying guide.

Choose the PMF set when this is true

Choose the PMF 220 CE set when you have no Bosch battery and the cut is near a socket. You get 220 W in the bullets, Starlock, MagnetHold, a four-stage depth stop and a carrying case of blades. Bosch's DIY page for order 0603102070 prints 15,000–20,000 oscillations per minute and 2.8°. The amazon set is 0603102071, and it does not print that rate. The listing does print a two-year warranty. UK reviews praise the reach into skirting and a jammed door. The same file says sheets detach, plaster dust stiffens the switch, one blade locked after a single use, and one tool failed after two months with a cut motor wire. One UK review of this part number says it has a three-pin plug. The specification table does not print BS 1363. Check the plug on arrival. Who should skip it is on the best Bosch multi tool page.

Choose a cordless body when this is true

Choose a cordless body when the matching pack and charger are already on the shelf, or when a lead will not reach. The AdvancedMulti and the UniversalMulti take green 18 V packs. The GOP 18V-34 and the GOP 18V-30 take blue Professional 18 V packs. Bosch says AMPShare does not work with POWER FOR ALL. The GOP 12V-28 takes Professional 12 V packs, not a green 12 V drill battery. The PMF needs no pack. Buy it only if you want the mains tool. If the pack matches, the body price adds an oscillator to a platform you have paid for. If it does not, you are buying a battery, and the PMF is the cleaner sum beside a socket. If the undercut is tomorrow, the offcut method is on the how to use a Bosch multi tool page.

What neither choice removes

Neither path deletes the Starlock bill. The PMF arrives with more blades, and the next one is still Starlock, not an old OIS pack. The blue bodies arrive with one plunge blade. A cable is not the cheap-blade route. None of the six listings prints a decibel figure, so the file does not support corded means quieter. The GOP 18V-30 bullet's 3 m/s² is not every blade.

Common questions

Is the about £71.94 tool cheaper to own than the about £103.95 set?
Not if you still have to buy a battery and a charger. The about £71.94 AdvancedMulti is a green 18 V body without a pack. The about £103.95 PMF 220 CE set is corded, with blades, a depth stop and a case. This comparison does not invent a battery price. It does say the body price is not a running tool until the matching pack is already yours.
When is the cable the better buy?
When you have no Bosch battery and the cut is beside a 230 V socket. The PMF set then costs what the listing prints, about £103.95, and it includes several Starlock blades and a four-stage depth stop. It is a worse buy if you already own matching cordless packs, or if the work is where a lead will not reach.
When is cordless worth it even though the battery is extra?
When the cut is away from a socket, or when the pack and charger are already on the shelf so the battery is not extra at all. A green pack runs the AdvancedMulti or the UniversalMulti. A blue 18 V pack runs the GOP 18V-34 or the GOP 18V-30. A Professional 12 V pack runs the GOP 12V-28. A pack from the wrong family does not.
Does the PMF have a UK plug?
One UK review of this part number, 0603102071, says it has a three-pin plug. The specification table does not print BS 1363. Treat the review as evidence for the unit that buyer received, and look at the plug on arrival. UK mains are 230 V. A Schuko-only lead is a problem, not a detail to adapt around as the normal case.
Does corded mean fewer blade costs?
No. The PMF includes more blades on day one, and UK reviews still say Starlock replacements cost more than older blades. OIS packs do not fit. A cordless body with one plunge blade usually needs a segment or a sanding pad sooner. The cable does not change the mount.
What fails on the PMF in UK reviews?
Sheets and the sanding head detach or wear quickly. The switch stiffens in plaster dust. One blade would not release after a single use. One tool failed after two months, with a motor wire cut by a plastic post. Those reports sit beside praise for awkward cuts the buyers could not do with other tools.
