Single room heat recovery buying guide

Updated: 22 October 2026

You have an outside wall and a room that stays stuffy or misted. A single room heat recovery buying guide has to sort those titles before you compare stars. In this amazon.co.uk set the shelf runs from about £123.12 to about £379.99, and the machines are not all the same object. The twelve-row table is on our [single room heat recovery comparison](/hub/heating/single-room-heat-recovery). This page is the order of checks: hole, wall, litres per second, then whatever control is actually in the box. Nothing here is a Part F certificate. Peter F. checked those listings and public UK sources. There was no lab test. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Most rows are push-pull ceramic fans. A core sits in a short tube, the fan reverses about every minute, and one grille both exhausts and supplies. Alnor's UK note describes a cycle of about 70 seconds, and a pair of units balances a flat better than one hole. Brookvent's ONE 100 uses that cycle. You still get some mixing at the single grille. BEAMA treats single-room heat recovery as a development of an ordinary extract fan. The Kair K-HRV150/12RH is a 12 V unit with a humidistat, a pull cord, a stated 152 mm core and hard-wiring in the capture. It is not a plug-in ceramic sleeve. The Vent-Axia HR100R is a ducted loft box at 18 litres per second FID, with no ceramic reversing core. If you cannot run ducts, that row is the wrong shape.

Hole size and wall thickness

The cores cluster at 100 mm, 125 mm, and 150 or 152 mm. LIRAST's EER100 is the 100 mm pattern, with 106 mm also printed, and a telescopic sleeve of 300–555 mm. A UK review describes a 275 mm wall as a difficult fit, so leave both LIRAST colours if the wall is under 300 mm. Brookvent's ONE 100 is also 100 mm, and it does not publish that minimum. LINGGONGAIR's VT125-WIFI is 125 mm, with a depth around 39.9 cm. EUROPLAST, Weiworld's VT501-WF and Brookvent's ONE 150 are 150 mm. Kair's own page talks about a 152 mm core and walls of about 229–356 mm. A buyer whose run was about 3 m paid £41.17 with delivery for an extension pack. Envirovoid claims 100–160 mm and does not state a sleeve length. Match the bit to the unit, then check the wall against that sleeve.

Airflow, noise, and the title percentage

Approved Document F 2021, in the tables Elta Trade summarises, gives a bathroom high rate of 8 litres per second on a continuous system, against 15 litres per second for an intermittent extract. A title that says up to 90% is not either of those rates. Brookvent's ONE 100 lists 3, 4 and 7 litres per second, while another field says 17. The ONE+ line is a family of 6, 8, 11, 14 and 17 litres per second across models. Weiworld prints 35 cubic feet per minute. LIRAST, the VT100 and Envirovoid do not state a usable airflow. The HR100R figure is fan-in-duct, not a ceramic sleeve. Noise fields of 5 dB on Brookvent pages, next to a voltage field that also says 5, are not bedroom measurements. Part F's noise note points towards about 30 dB in bedrooms and living rooms and about 45 dB in kitchens and bathrooms. LIRAST prints both 44 dB and 27/32 dB(A) at 3 m.

What must be in the box

The ONE 100 and the ONE 150 ship as the fan. UK reviews say the wall switch was extra, about £40 on the ONE 100 and about £53.20 on the only ONE 150 review. The ONE+ at about £379.99 names the remote controller and states IPX4. LIRAST and EUROPLAST state a wall switch. EUROPLAST also prints both a Type G and a Schuko plug, so confirm what arrives. Weiworld and the VT125-WIFI include an app and a remote. The VT100 plugs in, with a UK plug confirmed in reviews and no airflow figure. Kair expects hard-wiring. One through-wall fan does not ventilate a whole flat. BEAMA still expects background vents where the strategy needs them. The drill, the fall and where an electrician takes over are on how to install a single room heat recovery unit.

Common questions

Is 100 mm, 125 mm, or 150 mm the right hole?
It is the hole printed for the unit you buy. LIRAST and the ONE 100 are 100 mm, the VT125-WIFI is 125 mm, and EUROPLAST, Weiworld and the ONE 150 are 150 mm. Kair states 152 mm. Envirovoid's 100–160 mm claim is a range, not a measurement of your wall. Hire the bit after the model is chosen, not before.
What if the wall is thinner than 300 mm?
Leave the LIRAST rows. Their sleeve is stated at 300–555 mm, and a 275 mm wall was already a difficult fit in a UK review. Kair's own page talks about roughly 229–356 mm, with a paid extension when the run is long. Other 100 mm fans in this set do not all share LIRAST's minimum, so read that model's sleeve, not the category.
How do I compare cubic metres per hour with Part F?
Divide the listing's cubic metres per hour by 3.6 for a rough litres-per-second figure. EUROPLAST's 29 becomes about 8, which is the continuous bathroom high rate in the Part F tables, not proof the installed fan will deliver it. Kair's 19 becomes about 5.3. Say converted from the listing whenever you use the sum.
Does up to 90 percent mean the incoming air is warm?
It means the seller's recovery claim under their conditions. Ceramic-core studies often land nearer 60–80%, and they were not tests of these twelve ASINs. UK reviews still describe cool incoming air. Hold the claim next to a stated airflow, or treat it as advertising when the airflow cell is empty.
Why do some Brookvent boxes omit the controller?
The ONE 100 and ONE 150 listings describe the controller as optional. Buyers report paying extra, and in at least one case it was not on Amazon at all. The ONE+ is the row that puts the controller in the box. Order that part before you drill if you choose either of the cheaper ONE models.
