Oil burner nozzle buying guide UK

Updated: 22 October 2026

The boiler has been sooting, the service is due, and the old brass jet is a smear of three numbers you are afraid to misread. This oil burner nozzle buying guide is the reading method for that stamp. Peter F. checked Danfoss guidance, a City Plumbing EH/ES datasheet, OFTEC service notes and the amazon.co.uk listings in the [oil burner nozzle comparison](/hub/heating/oil-burner-nozzle) on 20 October 2026. Prices here are the stored shelf figures for this set, not a live basket. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. There was no lab test. Copy flow, angle and pattern without mixing test pressures, and know when the order should wait for a competent person.

What the nozzle does on a UK pressure-jet burner

On a domestic pressure-jet burner the nozzle meters oil and breaks it into a spray so the flame can light and stay stable. Most UK oil boilers burn Class C2 kerosene. Buy the nozzle on the burner data plate. A title that says universal or most burners is a shop phrase, not a plate. OFTEC says service liquid-fuel appliances at least yearly, or as the manufacturer requires, and replace nozzles and flexible oil lines as required. The best oil burner nozzle page shortlists these twelve listings.

Reading flow, angle and pattern on the jet

Copy flow, spray angle and pattern letter from the old nozzle or the plate, and stop if any mark is unreadable. Flow is in US gallons per hour, such as 0.50, 0.60 or 0.65. Danfoss names S or ES solid, H or EH hollow, and B semi-solid. Hollow puts more oil at the edge of the cone. A different letter is a different flame, even when the flow matches. A plate that reads 0.60, 80° and EH needs that triple, not about 0.65 and not a cheaper 60° full cone. If the stamp is worn flat, a competent person should read what is left.

Kerosene markings, part codes and test pressures

Danfoss designs EH and ES for domestic high-pressure burners on kerosene and cites OFTEC OFS E100. EOGB’s UK notes say EH/ES nozzles are not suitable for gas oil, with kerosene near 6.9–10 bar and gas oil near 12–22 bar as a calculator guide. Fuel detail is on the kerosene oil burner nozzle page. Kg/h is at 8 bar for EH/ES and 10 bar for the wider family. City Plumbing prints 0.50 US gal/h as 1.50 kg/h and 0.60 as 1.80 kg/h at 8 bar. This set’s 0.60 × 80 EH title prints 1.80 kg/h. The 0.50 × 80 S prints 1.87 kg/h, a different point. CP121193 on a full-cone title is a seller code, not OFS E100. Do not clean the orifice with a wire.

Generic listings and red flags

Shelf prices here run from £7.99 for thinly specified full-cone nozzles to £19.95 for a Danfoss 0.45 × 80 H. A £7.99 full-cone title is not an OFTEC mark. Hoite rows at 0.30, 0.50 and 0.75 US gal/h, all 60°, say diesel heating and omit the pattern letter. Voyoo’s 0.75 at 60° names brass and 7 bar, not kerosene. METERXITY states a 9/16-24 UNEF thread on a 0.5 GPH solid-cone B and a 3 GPH solid-cone B. Three US gallons per hour is not a house-boiler rate. The RIVEN 1.5 mm row is a waste-oil siphon that needs compressed air.

When to order and when to call a competent person

Order when you can read flow, angle and letter, the fuel matches that family, and a competent person will measure combustion. OFTEC still wants a registered technician and a CD/11 report for a proper service. Call a competent person if the burner locks out, smells of oil or smokes, if the marks are unreadable, if the fuel is changing, or if electrodes, pump pressure or the fire valve are in the job. Danfoss says do not touch the orifice and tighten at 15–20 Nm, maximum 25 Nm. The stop points are on the how to replace an oil burner nozzle page.

Common questions

What three numbers do I copy from my old nozzle?
Copy the flow in US gal/h, the spray angle in degrees, and the pattern letter. A domestic example is 0.60, 80° and EH. Leave the kilogram-per-hour line on the amazon title until you know whether it was taken at 8 bar or at 10 bar. If the stamp is worn smooth, stop guessing and use the burner sheet or a technician.
Is US gal/h the same as GPH on amazon.co.uk?
In this trade both labels usually mean US gallons per hour, not imperial gallons. They are still not a free pass to mix listings. A METERXITY title that says 0.5 GPH is not automatically the Danfoss stamp 0.50 US gal/h at the kerosene test point, and 3 GPH is a different duty entirely.
What is the difference between EH and ES on a Danfoss jet?
Both sit in the kerosene family marked to OFS E100. EH is hollow and ES is solid, so the oil is distributed differently across the cone. Flow and angle can match while the letter does not. Buy the letter on the plate. Swapping them because one listing is in stock is a specification change.
Can I use a cheaper full-cone nozzle instead of Danfoss?
Only when your documentation already accepts that generic pattern, thread and flow. In this set the £7.99 rows omit the Danfoss letter and do not carry OFS E100. Compared with a coded EH jet at about £13, you save money and lose the part number an engineer can check against the plate.
Should I change the nozzle every year?
OFTEC says service at least annually and replace nozzles as required, not on a fixed new-jet-every-October rule. A worn nozzle can over-fuel and soot the exchanger. Whether this year’s jet is still fit is a combustion measurement, which belongs with the service, not with a star rating.
