How to use a Könighaus infrared heater

Updated: 22 October 2026

The panel is out of the carton and you are choosing the feet or a drill. Smart Dual cartons in this set include feet and a wall kit. P-series cartons include fixings and a cable, and no stand. Clearances and the first-start smell differ between the 2023 English manual and the Smart Dual manual. The [Könighaus infrared heater comparison](/hub/heating/konighaus-infrared-heater) lists weights and box contents. This page is the sequence after purchase. What the carton lets you do

Smart Dual listings include stand feet, a wall kit, a remote and a towel rail. You may stand the panel or fix it to a wall that can carry the listed weight: 5 kg on the 450 W file, 7 kg on the 600 W file, and 9 kg on the 800 W Smart Dual. P-series cartons include wall fixings and a 1.80 m cable. They do not include feet, a remote or a thermostat. Könighaus’s FAQ says castor feet are an optional extra. One P-600 reviewer bought feet separately. Do not stand the panel if the box did not include them. The 2023 English manual requires the P-series cable to point downwards on 600–1200 W wall panels. The outlet side is chosen before purchase. You do not rotate the panel later. Keep the plug reachable, and do not mount it directly in front of a socket. One P-800 review described a separate 2-pin timer plug that did not fit a UK socket. Confirm a BS 1363 plug on the lead you receive. One 450 W review said the panel did not start from the plug until the power button was pressed. Which family you bought is on Könighaus Smart Dual vs P-series.

The gap around the panel

The 2023 English manual asks for about 50 cm free in front of a P-series-style panel, about 20 cm to the sides, above and below, and about 10 mm behind when you use the supplied fixings. Do not aim it at a window. Manufacturer text puts the surface around 80–125 °C depending on model, so keep it out of reach in a child’s room. The Smart Dual manual is stricter on combustibles: at least 90 cm from the front, sides and back. That is not the 50 cm front gap, and it is not the M-series 25 mm rear gap. The M-series is not in this set. Fabric, paper, coats and towels on the radiant face are a fire risk. The Smart Dual towel rail is a listed feature. Laundry across the face is not.

The first time you switch it on

The 2023 manual asks you to ventilate for about four hours on first start. The Smart Dual manual allows a slight smell from production residue that should fade within a week if you ventilate. Do not cover the heater during that run. The first afternoon is a check of fixings, smell, cable and control, not proof the panel will heat the house. Room sizing is on the buying guide.

When to unplug and stop

Stop and unplug if, after the first run, you still smell burning rubber or plastic, see a flash, a charred cable entry, a burn mark on the wall, or a warped yellowed frame. Individual reviews describe bent panels, missing brackets and charred entries. That is not a published recall. It is a reason to stop and contact the seller. A smell that returns weeks later is a fault, not another ventilation afternoon. Unplug before you move a Smart Dual if the cable is tight. Do not lift a hot P-series off its fixings without switching off at the isolator. The 2023 manual says wet-room fitting is a specialist job. If the panel could fall into a bath, fix that before anyone switches it on. Zones and Part P are on Könighaus infrared heater bathroom.

Common questions

Can I stand the P-series on the floor with the parts in the amazon box?
No. The P-series box is wall fixings and a 1.80 m cable. Castor feet are an optional extra on the manufacturer FAQ, not part of these amazon.co.uk cartons. One P-600 reviewer bought feet separately.
How much space does the 2023 manual want in front of a P-series panel?
About 50 cm to the front and about 20 cm to the sides, top and bottom, with about 10 mm behind the supplied fixings. Do not aim the panel at a window. The surface is described around 80–125 °C, so keep it out of reach in a child’s room.
Is the Smart Dual clearance the same 50 cm?
No. The Smart Dual manual specifies about 90 cm to combustibles on the front, sides and back. The 50 cm front gap belongs to the 2023 panel manual. Use the manual for the family you bought.
Is a smell on the first afternoon normal?
A mild smell with ventilation can be normal on first start. The 2023 manual asks for about four hours. The Smart Dual manual says residue should fade within a week. Burning after that first run, or a smell weeks later, means unplug and contact the seller.
May I dry a towel on the P-series, or only on the Smart Dual rail?
Do not cover the radiant face on either family. The Smart Dual rail is the listed towel feature. The face still has to stay clear. Fabric across the panel is a fire risk, not a tidiness issue, even when a rail is in the carton.
Which way does the P-series cable face?
Downwards, per the 2023 manual, with the outlet side chosen before you install. You do not rotate the panel later. Keep the plug reachable, and confirm it is a UK BS 1363 type.
Can I put this on the ceiling?
Not the P-series. The manufacturer FAQ forbids ceiling mounting for that family. The M-series ceiling model is not in this comparison. Smart Dual listings in the set are for a wall or for the feet in the carton, not for a ceiling fix.
