Rali plane buying guide: width, sole and blades

Updated: 24 October 2026

You are looking at red and black Rali planes whose names do less work than they should. Monobloc, Evolution B and Evolution N share a lever and a flip blade, then split on the sole, the adjustments and how many blades are in the box. A Rali plane buying guide starts with cutter width: a 48 mm blade will not fit the rebate planes, and a 30 mm blade will not surface a wide face. Prices and star lines are on the [Rali plane comparison](/hub/hand-tools/rali-plane). Peter F. wrote this on 22 October 2026 from amazon.co.uk and the UK shop. There is no lab test. 48 mm or 30 mm

The width is the shelf. Rali's blade page puts 48 mm cutters on the 105, the 220 and the 260, and 30 mm cutters on the Pocket, the G03, the G30 and the B30. Chrome is the edge in the box, for soft to medium wood. Carbide is the same width, bought separately. An arris, a door edge or a small face stays on the 48 mm shelf. A 105 is one-handed. A 220 or a 260 is two-handed, and a 260 is still not a try plane. A rebate belongs on the Rali rebate plane page. The ten-blade bundle is still model 108257, ten 48 mm chrome blades, at £87.99 and 400 g. The cutting-width field says 10.5 cm. The single-blade Monobloc the same day was £46.31.

Monobloc, Evolution B, or Evolution N

Once the width is 48 mm, Monobloc is the light sole, one adjustment and one blade. Evolution N is the heavy sole, two adjustments and four blades. Evolution B is the heavy sole and two adjustments with one blade. On 22 October 2026 the Monobloc was £46.31, 400 g, one chrome blade, depth by lever. The 105 Evolution N was £104.08, also 400 g, four 48 mm chrome blades, a chipbreaker and a heavy sole on the style line. It holds the only UK review in this folder. The row titled 105 EVO B is £82.98, model 101678, one blade, with a heavy sole in the bullets and a style field that says 105 Monoblock. The code matches the shop's Evolution B sheet. It has 3.1 from two ratings, and a German review returned a skewed blade. The lever is on how to use a Rali plane.

What this amazon set actually contains

The 220 Monobloc is £77.65 and 1.2 kg, with a light sole and a cutting-width field of 5.5 cm. The blade count is not stated. The 260 Evolution N is £178.66 and 1.19 kg, four 48 mm blades, the mouth named and a wrench in the handle. The same day's UK shop look included a 220 Evolution N at about £113.57. That plane is not an amazon row here. The 220 Monobloc's 4.6 from 178 is the 105 file, about a small one-handed plane, not UK reviews of the 220. Consumer Rights Act 2015 section 11 is why a description has to match the goods. The Systainer at £348.99 names different planes on its two contents lines. A case is what both share.

What the blades cost after the flip

Chrome in the box is the soft-to-medium edge. For all woods means a carbide swap, and carbide is not in these cartons. On the UK blade page that day, two 48 mm chrome blades were £8.51 and one 48 mm carbide blade was £25.20. A Monobloc at £46.31 plus that carbide blade is a different purchase. The 30 mm planes take 30 mm spares. A 48 mm packet will not drop in. About 1,600 metres per chrome blade is the maker's test. One amazon bullet says 1.6 m. If the first job is oak, budget carbide in the matching width before you call the plane ready.

Common questions

Is a Monobloc enough if I only break arrises?
Yes, if the arris is the job and you accept one 48 mm chrome blade and a light sole. The 105 Monobloc at £46.31 is that row. The 105 Evolution N at £104.08 adds four blades, a chipbreaker and the heavy-sole line. A rebate is a different width.
What do I gain with Evolution N over Evolution B?
Evolution N puts four 48 mm chrome blades in the box and Evolution B puts one. The Evolution N also has the only UK review text here. Evolution B at £82.98 is model 101678, and the style field still says Monoblock. You gain a fuller box and a cleaner name.
Will a 48 mm blade fit the Pocket?
No. The Pocket, the G03, the G30 and the B30 take 30 mm blades. The 105, 220 and 260 take 48 mm. The ten-blade bundle is ten 48 mm chrome blades. A cutting-width field of 10.5 cm is the body length, not a rebate kit.
Do I need carbide for oak on day one?
Chrome is what these planes include, for soft to medium wood. Carbide is a separate blade in the same width. One 48 mm carbide blade was £25.20 on the UK shop on 22 October 2026. If the first job is oak, put that blade in the budget. For all woods does not mean it is already in the carton.
Why is the amazon 220 Monobloc dearer than the UK shop?
They are different shops on the same day. Amazon had the 220 Monobloc at £77.65. rali-shop.co.uk the same day showed a 105 Monobloc at £44.43 among other cards. Quote the channel with the price. The 4.6 from 178 is the 105 file copied across, so it does not explain the gap.
Does the ten-blade bundle change the 105 Monobloc?
It changes the spares, not the plane. Model 108257 is the Monobloc and 118306 is the bundle, still 400 g. You get ten 48 mm chrome blades at £87.99 and no review line. You do not get a heavy sole, a chipbreaker or carbide.
