Cordless or corded electric nail file

Updated: 23 October 2026

The same COSLUS page can say corded electric in the power-source line and rechargeable in a later bullet. You are choosing a cordless or corded electric nail file, and that contradiction comes first. A pen that only runs with the lead in is corded, whatever the bullet says. A battery pen is the better buy when reviews support a full session. The [electric file comparison](/hub/hand-tools/electric-file) shows the power-format column. The buying order is on the [electric nail file buying guide](/hub/hand-tools/electric-file/sub/electric-file-buying-guide). Peter F. updated this on 22 October 2026. Trust the attribute line, then the reviews

Read the power-source attribute, then the UK reviews, and treat a conflicting bullet as the claim that needs proof. Both COSLUS C40 listings, B0CGF1CR3B at £9.98 and B0CGF18WMJ at £9.99, say corded electric, include a USB cable, and still carry a rechargeable bullet. Saved UK reviews say the lead must stay attached. The 14,526 reviews are one pool. DURNYDT at £6.99 leaves the power format blank. Reviews say it stays plugged in, the sample is 3.3 from 22, and one review says the parcel is a carving tool. Corded means a USB lead. No saved ASIN records a BS 1363 plug. PALATALA states 5 V and says the pen is not rechargeable.

When a lead is the better electric file

A lead wins when you remove gel at a table and you can keep the cable in for the whole job. The usual home tools in this set are corded pens with a stated 20,000 RPM maximum. The PC120I at £8.29 asks you to plug the adapter in and to rest after 20 minutes. The COSLUS C40 is the same plugged-in pattern, and reviews also mention heat. Which row is best value is on the best electric nail file page. This page does not invent a rechargeable conflict for Ajgvq or KOOFIT. For gel polish, a stated 20,000 RPM corded pen is enough headroom, with the working speed lower than the printed maximum. Buying cordless only because the title says cordless is the mistake the COSLUS bullet invites.

When a battery is worth the money

A battery is worth paying for when you need to move, and when reviews describe a charge that covers the session you actually do. The POFIBO at £22.99 is battery powered, with a stated 35,000 RPM maximum. Several UK reviews say the battery lasts a session. That is a review theme, not a lab hour count. The 70 g bullet conflicts with a 200 g item weight. The PC90G at £14.99 claims about six hours from a 400 mAh cell. Saved reviews often say the battery is short, and at least one unit died after two uses. If you need those six hours, a lead you can leave plugged in is the more honest tool. A swollen pack is a reason to stop and reject a new pen.

Clip-on packs, and what to do if the format is wrong

A clip-on leaves the mains during use and still puts the handpiece on a lead. The SC300F at £33.99 is a rechargeable clip-on with a stated 30,000 RPM maximum. A P76 battery type on that listing looks like a bad catalogue value. The Scamander, part SC320H, at £69.99 states a 6,000 mAh pack. The 900 g item weight is the pack, not the handpiece. Both have stopped-working or broken-lead reviews. Look at a clip-on for bulk-product headroom only after you have read those reviews. It is not a cordless pen. No listing here records UKCA. If a new cordless pen only runs on the lead, will not hold a charge, or is dead, stop using it. The Consumer Rights Act 2015, section 22, is the short-term right to reject, normally 30 days. Leave the housing closed.

Common questions

How can a nail drill be labelled rechargeable and still need the lead?
The COSLUS C40 pages show Power source: Corded Electric, a USB cable, and a bullet that also calls the kit rechargeable. Saved UK reviews say the pen only runs while the lead is attached. Trust the attribute and those reviews ahead of the bullet. The conflict is on ASINs B0CGF1CR3B and B0CGF18WMJ. It does not describe every COSLUS model. Other COSLUS ASINs are outside this set.
Which format should you buy if you only remove gel at a desk?
Choose a corded USB pen and keep the lead in. In this folder that is the MelodySusie PC120I and the COSLUS C40, both with a stated 20,000 RPM maximum used as headroom, not as a speed you must hold. PALATALA’s bullet already says the pen is not rechargeable, which makes the contract easier to read. You give up the freedom to walk away from the socket.
When is a cordless pen worth it, and when is a short battery worse?
A cordless pen is worth it when you leave the socket and the reviews describe a charge that covers one session. The POFIBO at £22.99 is that pen here, with a maker claim of up to five hours light use or three hours intensive, and with UK reviews that say a charge lasts a session. The PC90G’s six-hour claim conflicts with short-battery reviews. If you need those six hours, a lead you can leave plugged in is the more honest tool.
Is a clip-on cordless, or is it still a corded handpiece?
A clip-on is free of the mains and still corded at the hand. The SC300F at £33.99 and the Scamander, part SC320H, at £69.99 put the battery in a pack and the bit on a lead. You can leave the wall socket. You still have a cable to watch, and both rows include broken-lead or stopped-working reviews. The Scamander’s 900 g figure is the pack, not the handpiece.
What should you do if a new cordless pen only works when plugged in?
Stop using it. If the listing you relied on described a battery and the pen only runs on the lead, will not hold a charge, or is dead, the Consumer Rights Act 2015, section 22, is the short-term right to reject, normally within 30 days. Tell the retailer what it does. Leave the housing closed. A swollen battery is another reason to stop and arrange the return.
