Best cordless planer UK: who each pick is for

Updated: 23 October 2026

You already own a battery, or you are about to pay for one, and the amazon.co.uk results mix a DeWalt body with yellow tools that only borrow the colour. The best cordless planer UK shoppers can name from this set is the platform tool you can already power. Everyone else is a skip for someone. Prices and the full rows sit on the [cordless plane comparison](/hub/hand-tools/cordless-plane). Peter F., DIY and tools editor, wrote this on 22 October 2026 from those listings and the makers' UK pages. We did not run a workshop test. Best if you already own DeWalt 18 V packs

The top pick in this saved set is the DeWalt DCP580N-XJ at £117.98, body only. The listing is 18 V XR, brushless in the title, 82 mm wide, 2 mm in one pass and a 9 mm rebate. UK texts use it on doors after carpet, a gate, a bench and site work with no socket. Skip it if you own no DeWalt batteries. The shelf price excludes the pack and the charger. Two UK reviews say the dial still takes wood at zero, so you prove it on scrap. A 2 mm pass against a mains planer is cordless planer vs corded.

Best if you are on Einhell Power X-Change

The best value here is the Einhell TE-PL 18/82 Li Solo, article 4345400, at £77.99. The line is 4.6 from 1,159 reviews. It is body only: 82 mm, up to 2 mm, a parallel guide, a rebate depth stop and one reversible TCT knife. Einhell's UK page states an 8 mm fold and a brush motor. A brushless sentence on amazon sits inside an unrelated post-hole-drill line, so this page does not call the planer brushless. UK reviews use it on doors, windows and bottoms after carpet. Skip it if you want a dust bag in the box or batteries from another brand. One account beside 1,159 ratings describes a unit that broke almost immediately. The card stays at £77.99. Door gaps are on cordless planer for doors.

When a cheap DeWalt-shaped body is the wrong best

Yellow plastic from about £47.99 is not a DeWalt. The Mekturm slide body is £47.99 with 4.3 from three reviews. The SWTHM is £53.49 with 4.2 from eight, including a motor that died on first use. The Gobanwei is £54.99 with 3.9 from five, and one UK text calls the badging fraudulent. One YWNYT at £59.99 drew a return because the advert looked like a DeWalt. The second YWNYT has no review line. The XIIW at £74.99 claims a Makita shoe, prints 0–3 mm and has 4.5 from five reviews. One UK review doubted 3 mm in oak. The JAOGAUS at £53.99 is not a pick: Milwaukee in the bullets, Makita in the reviews. The traps are the cordless planer buying guide.

The 21 V kit is best only if you own nothing

The Mekturm KT-P01 at £71.99 is the only kept row with two batteries and a charger: two 2.6 Ah 21 V packs. The star line is 4.2 from 10 reviews. UK notes say it works, and that the packs ran short, there was no dust-bag attachment and the box had no instructions. A bullet claims up to 30 minutes. That is a seller line, not a timed test. Buy it only when you own no DeWalt, Einhell, Makita or Milwaukee packs. Those packs fit this planer and nothing else. Setting the depth so the end does not scoop is how to use a cordless planer.

Common questions

Which one should I buy if I already own DeWalt batteries?
Buy the DCP580N-XJ body if the packs are 18 V XR. Here it is £117.98, with 4.8 from 1,425 reviews, 2 mm in one pass and a 9 mm rebate. The battery is not included. A yellow body that lists DCB numbers is another brand making a fit claim. If you own no DeWalt packs, this body is the wrong first purchase.
Is the Einhell the best value, or just a cheap brand?
In this set it is the best value, and it is not the cheapest tool. The Solo is £77.99 with 4.6 from 1,159 reviews. Bodies near £48 rest on three to ten reviews. Einhell's UK page describes a brush motor and an 8 mm fold. The value holds when you already have a Power X-Change pack of about 2.5 Ah or more. It does not hold if you wanted brushless or if your batteries are DeWalt.
Are the £50 yellow planers a false economy?
Often, if you thought you were buying a DeWalt. The price is real, and the battery is not in the box. UK texts here include a motor that died on first use, a return over lookalike advertising, and a badging complaint. Buy a lookalike only when you already own a pack the seller names and a return is easy.
Does a high star rating on five reviews mean anything?
It means five people left a score. The XIIW row is 4.5 from five, and the score on this page is 64 for that reason. One UK review is still useful: the slot matched, the bag was small, and the writer doubted 3 mm in oak. It is not a sample you can set beside 1,159 or 1,425 ratings. A missing star line, as on the second YWNYT, means less still. Read the count before the stars.
Who should skip the 21 V kit?
Skip the KT-P01 if you already own a platform. The two 2.6 Ah packs, at £71.99, do not charge XR or Power X-Change tools. Also skip it if you need instructions or a dust port. Ten reviews and a score of 60 are a thin read beside the two branded bodies.
