100mm extractor grille

Updated: 16 October 2026

The bathroom fan is in, or the cooker hood is on the wall, and the outside end is still a bare hole or a hose with nothing on it. A 100mm extractor grille is the cover that finishes a 100 mm duct, which means a male spigot the hose can grip. The full table is the [ventilation grilles comparison](/hub/grills-and-barbecues/ventilation-grille). The Products Compared editorial team read the listings on 15 October 2026 and did not measure airflow in a lab. Amazon links can earn a commission if you buy, at no extra cost to you.

The outside end of a 100 mm fan

A standard UK bathroom fan is built around 100 mm duct. The outside piece needs a 100 mm male spigot, a face that overlaps the hole, and a screen you can still reach. The Kair grille, model DUCVKC244F/S-BK, states that spigot on a 155 × 155 mm black plastic face, at £11.49. The listing says it push-fits to Kair female duct DUCVKC250 or to 102 mm hose DUCP0092/102/35. Across 3,590 ratings it sits at 4.5. Screws are not in the box. The flyscreen is often called soft. The Meralo white louvre looks similar and is not the same part. It is 14 × 14 × 5 cm at £7.99, it claims a 100 mm fit, and it never says spigot. The extract has no reviews. Skip the flat plates unless the duct is already terminated. They can hide an opening. They do not give you a 100 mm stub.

A cooker hood is not automatically 100 mm

A hood uses the diameter printed on its own spigot. Caple’s extraction guide tells you to keep that diameter: reducing it cuts airflow, raises noise, and can void the warranty. If the manual says 150 mm, a 100 mm grille is the wrong last piece. Approved Document F Volume 1, Table 1.1, sets an intermittent kitchen rate of 30 litres a second where a hood extracts to outside, and 60 litres a second where extraction to outside is not how the hob is served. Those rates belong to the fan and the duct run. They are not a claim that any cover in this set delivers them. A trade rule of thumb, sometimes put as 100 mm is rarely enough for a hood, sits beside Caple’s instruction and does not replace it. A 300 × 300 mm Awenta face does not contain a 150 mm spigot. If your hood is 100 mm, the Kair is the listing that states the matching stub.

Free area and a hood that only recirculates

Approved Document F asks for a free area of at least 90 per cent of the duct. A 100 mm duct is about 7,854 mm² across, so 90 per cent is about 7,068 mm². That is a calculation from the document, not a measured result for the Kair. The Kair listing does not print a free area, so this page will not call it compliant. The Map louvre prints 4,400 mm², at £3.99. That number is the reason it stays off a 100 mm fan. A recirculating hood, with a charcoal filter and no duct to the outside, does not meet the outside-extract note on its own. Buying a grille does not turn a recirculating hood into a ducted one. The duct has to finish on an outside wall, soffit, or roof, not in the loft.

What still will not stop a back-draught

A fixed louvre stays open. The Kair blades are fixed louvres, not gravity shutters. Cutting the spigot off gives you a flat back. It does not add flaps. None of the twelve listings is a shutter grille. A trade product such as the Manrose 1162W exists for a 100 mm outlet that should close, and it is outside this comparison. Buy the Kair when the duct is 100 mm, bring screws, and make sure you can reach the mesh. Leave it when you need the blades to close.

Common questions

Is Meralo the same as Kair because both say 100 mm?
Both titles mention 100 mm, and the parts are not described the same way. Kair states a 100 mm male rear spigot and names the duct and hose it suits. Meralo is a white PP louvre, 14 × 14 × 5 cm at £7.99, with a flyscreen and a claimed 100 mm fit. The Meralo extract does not say spigot and contains no reviews. Use Kair when the hose must connect. Inspect Meralo’s back before you treat the title as a stub.
Can an Awenta or Repa plate terminate a duct?
They can cover a hole that is already finished. They are not listed with a rear spigot, so the hose has nothing to push onto. The large Awenta is a 300 × 300 mm face over a 250 × 250 mm opening. Repa’s plates are coated-steel rectangles such as 300 × 200 mm, 300 × 100 mm, and 260 × 105 mm, with no stub in the bullets. Use one when you are hiding an opening. Use the Kair when you are ending a 100 mm hose.
Is 100 mm enough for a cooker hood?
Use the diameter on the hood, not a default of 100 mm. Caple’s guide says reducing the maker’s spigot cuts airflow, raises noise, and can void the warranty. Approved Document F’s 30 litres a second applies where a hood extracts outside, and 60 litres a second where it does not. A trade saying that 100 mm is rarely enough for a hood is a rule of thumb beside that instruction, not a line in Table 1.1. None of these plates adds a 150 mm stub.
Does a recirculating hood meet Part F?
A recirculating hood filters air and returns it to the room. It does not extract to outside, and on its own it does not meet the outside-extract note in Approved Document F. The 30 and 60 litres-a-second kitchen rates still have to be met by a ducted fan or by whatever alternative the document allows for that room. A grille on the wall does not convert a recirculating hood into a ducted one. You need a duct before you need this terminal.
Which listings should I skip for this job?
Skip both Awentas, all three Repa plates, LIRAST, Map, the cabinet pair, and the Vent Systems flat cover when the hose still needs a 100 mm connection. Also skip Meralo until a stub is visible, because the listing does not name one and has no reviews. Skip the Kair itself if you need shutters, if you cannot supply screws, or if the soffit is the only place you can mount it and you cannot reach the mesh again. A hood with a 150 mm spigot skips the whole 100 mm set.
