Gas barbecue buying guide: five checks before price

Updated: 16 October 2026

A gas barbecue can look inexpensive until the hose is missing, the trolley does not fit the patio, or the power figures contradict each other. This gas barbecue buying guide uses this order: gas fitting, footprint, useful burners, credible heat, then accessories. Compare all twelve listings in the [Taino gas barbecue comparison](/hub/grills-and-barbecues/taino-gas-barbecue). None is a Taino, and the Brando listing had no GBP offer on 16 October 2026. The Products Compared editorial team read the amazon.co.uk pages and did not cook on the grills.

Start with the gas fitting

Check what connects the barbecue to its fuel before the star rating. A trolley without a hose cannot be used until the pressure and connector match the cylinder. UK patio gas commonly uses a 27 mm clip-on propane regulator. Butane, red propane and disposable cartridges use different connections. The data plate and manual lead. The Compact and Emberr list a propane hose and regulator. The George Foreman bullets name a UK regulator and hose. Original 4+1 reviews say the pipe is absent, and the covered Pro Deluxe requires one. The Grill2Go names a disposable 16.4 ounce propane cylinder sold separately. If a listing says only propane hose, confirm the pressure. The UK gas BBQ regulator guide separates patio gas, butane, red propane and cartridges, including a 50 mbar Taino part described for Germany and Austria.

Then measure the space

Measure the storage route as well as the cooking position. A trolley may fit the open patio and still fail at a narrow gate, shed door or side passage. The two Pro Deluxe listings are 149 cm wide and 39 kg. The Yamara is 140 cm wide and 48 kg. Do not average contradictory dimensions. The Emberr bullets say 141 x 52 x 107.5 cm, while another field says 45 x 45 x 34 cm. Use the full trolley dimensions until the seller confirms otherwise. Gas BBQ trolley or portable compares width, weight and cylinder.

Choose burners you will actually light

Burner count is useful when it describes separate cooking zones. One or two burners can cover a small household, because you can leave one zone lower. Gardeners' World uses one or two burners as a broad guide for a family of four and four burners for groups of six or more. That is a rule of thumb, not a capacity guarantee. Compare the cooking surface as well as the burner label. The Original 4+1 has a 1,952 cm² field. The covered Pro Deluxe bullets give 77 x 42 cm, while one area field says 77 cm². Treat the coherent measurement as the useful one, and check the product page again before ordering.

Read two heat figures, not one

Do not choose a model by copying the largest kilowatt claim. The Original bullets describe four 7.2 kW burners and a 2.1 kW side burner, while its wattage field says 9.3 kW and another field says 31.75 BTU. Those cannot all be the same total. The Campfire describes four 11.2 kW burners plus a side burner and also shows 11.2 kW as the heating power. Agreement between fields is more reassuring. The Compact shows two 2.2 kW burners and totals 4.4 kW. The Emberr gives 15.4 kW in both fields. Agreement does not prove temperature or evenness. It means the listing is coherent.

Leave the cover and assembly until last

A cover helps when the barbecue lives outside. It does not make painted steel immune to corrosion. The covered Pro Deluxe is £299.99, £10 more than the same model 93416 without a cover. Owner comments still mention paint wear and doors beginning to rust. Assembly changes the value too. Original 4+1 reviews describe roughly one to three hours, and Pro Deluxe instructions are repeatedly called fiddly. Price the cover and the build only after the regulator, the space and the heat figures are settled.

Common questions

How many burners do I need?
One or two burners can suit a small household, while three or four provide more room for separate heat zones and larger groups. More burners help only when the grate is also large enough and you will use the zones. A side ring is for pan cooking rather than extra grilling space.
Does a gas barbecue include the regulator?
Not necessarily. The Compact, Emberr and George Foreman listings name a hose or regulator, while several CosmoGrill trolleys do not. Check the included-components line, manual and data plate. If pressure and connector size are absent, ask the seller before relying on the accessory.
Should I trust the kilowatt number in the title?
Trust it only when the title, bullets and specification fields describe the same output. Several products here contain incompatible totals. A consistent figure helps comparison, but it still does not replace evidence about heat distribution, control or cooking results.
Is a side burner worth paying for?
A side burner is useful if you regularly heat sauce, water or a frying pan outdoors. If all your food goes on the grate, it adds width and another component without increasing the main cooking surface. Decide from your menu, not the +1 label.
Does a cover prevent rust?
No. A cover limits direct rain and dirt, but trapped moisture and damaged coatings can still lead to corrosion. Let the barbecue cool, keep it dry and follow the manufacturer's care instructions. Reviews of covered models can still mention paint wear or rust.
Where is the Taino Brando?
The researched Taino Brando listing had no GBP offer on 16 October 2026, so it is not one of the twelve priced products in the comparison and cannot be a current pick. The available table consists of other brands sold through amazon.co.uk.
