Commercial griddle 13 amp plug

Updated: 23 October 2026

You are about to plug a flat top into a cafe wall, a home kitchen, or a van hook-up, and the title says commercial while the lead may be one 13 A plug or two. This page is about a commercial griddle 13 amp plug: what one BS 1363 socket can carry, when a second circuit is the honest option, and when you call an electrician. The ten listings are on the [Commercial grill](/hub/grills-and-barbecues/commercial-grill) page. Width and zones are on the [commercial griddle buying guide](/hub/grills-and-barbecues/commercial-grill/sub/commercial-grill-buying-guide). We used the listing text and public UK guidance. We did not load-test the plates. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

What 13 A can carry

A 13 A plug to BS 1363 is the ordinary UK moulded plug. HSE's GS50 treats that plug as the 13 A limit, and it points higher loads toward a BS EN 60309 connector where the installation needs one. Thirteen amps times 230 V is 2,990 W. That is arithmetic. A stated 3,000 W plate on one UK plug sits at the ceiling. Contender's manual maps its GRE013, at 3.0 kW, to one dedicated 13 A socket, earthed, to BS 7671. A stated 4,400 W plate is about 19 A at 230 V, from the sum, not from a clamp meter on these ASINs. Contender's GRE009 is 2 × 2.5 kW, and the manual sends it to two dedicated 13 A sockets on separate circuits. Each lead has its own limit.

Two plugs means two circuits

Falcon's plug advice is the practical rule. Sockets are 13 A. Do not put both feeds of a dual 13 A supply into one twin socket. A double faceplate is still one circuit in many UK kitchens and cafe passes. Both leads in that faceplate can overload the cable behind it. Falcon also cites a 30 mA RCD as extra protection. That does not make a 4,400 W load fit one 13 A fuse. With one socket on the pitch, you run one element, or you do not trade. Do not join the leads with an adapter or fit a larger fuse. HSE says not to bypass fuses, to match the rating plate, and to stop if the supply looks damaged. A warm plug, a discoloured faceplate, or a taped lead means you unplug and leave it off.

What this capture actually states

Read the included-components line and the bullet. TAIMIKO TM-818 states a UK plug and 3,000 W, at about £139.90. Voltage is blank. MOOTACO TM-H B0CXPKD5RN states 3,000 W, 240 V, and a UK plug. MOOTACO TM-H B09V14SYJT states 2,500 W and a UK plug. PATIOZA UK-HK-280C states 1,700 W and 240 V and does not name the plug. The smaller loads sit further under the 2,990 W ceiling. Three listings state about 4,400 W. TAIMIKO TM-820/822's title says a double UK plug, at about £199, with 220 V in the file. MOOTACO MOO-610T/820T-DE states 2,200 W x 2, and UK reviews say two sockets. The attribute block does not print a double UK plug. TAIMIKO HK-820V states 4,400 W and does not state a plug count. LIROPAU PL818 says 3,000 W in the bullet and 2,200 W in the wattage field. The best commercial electric griddle UK page names the top pick once the supply is real.

Stalls, halls, and hardwiring

A borrowed 240 V supply into a mobile unit is a different installation from a moulded plug in your own kitchen. Ards and North Down's note asks for a 30 mA RCD, bonding, and protected cables when that supply comes from another premises. One 13 A hall socket will run a stated 3,000 W plate at the ceiling. It will not run both leads of a 4,400 W griddle. If you do not know a generator's continuous rating, do not guess it on the morning of the pitch. Hardwiring is the step when the rating plate is above a 13 A plug or the manufacturer says the supply is permanent. Falcon's E3441 example is quoted at 14.97 A, already over a 13 A fuse. Adding a circuit, changing a consumer unit, or feeding a trailer is an electrician's job. CAIS12, which HSE cites, mentions 12-month intervals from the IET as a recommendation. Gas Safe applies only if gas is also on the pitch.

Common questions

Is 3,000 W inside a 13 A plug?
It sits at the ceiling. Thirteen amps times 230 V is 2,990 W, which is arithmetic. Contender's manual puts a 3.0 kW griddle on one dedicated 13 A socket. TAIMIKO TM-818 states 3,000 W and a UK plug, and it does not state voltage. Give that plate its own socket. If the plug warms, switch off.
Can 4,400 W use one heavy extension?
About 19 A at 230 V does not fit a 13 A plug or a 13 A reel, however thick the cable looks. TAIMIKO TM-820/822 states two UK plugs for 4,400 W. Each plug needs its own circuit. A coiled reel only adds heat. Unroll any reel you do use, and only for a load it is marked to carry.
May both plugs share a double socket?
Falcon says not to put both feeds of a dual 13 A supply in one twin socket. A double faceplate is often one circuit. Contender's two-element griddle is two dedicated sockets on separate circuits. One twin socket means you run one side, or you change the pitch.
What if the listing does not mention a plug?
Treat the plug count as unknown. TAIMIKO HK-820V states 4,400 W and does not say how many leads it has. PATIOZA states 1,700 W and 240 V and does not name the plug. LIROPAU's bullet and wattage field disagree at 3,000 W and 2,200 W. Read the rating plate before you switch on.
Do I need an electrician for a moulded 13 A plug?
A sound 13 A lead in a dedicated, RCD-protected socket is the ordinary case for a stated 3 kW plate. You need an electrician if you are adding a circuit, feeding a trailer, or the faceplate is damaged. Two leads, a generator, or a supply borrowed from another building are that second case. Stop if the plug runs hot.
