Firelighters buying guide

Updated: 23 October 2026

You are looking at a 200-count box, a 1,000-count box and a cube multipack, and the ticket prices sit close enough that the wrong field is easy to buy. A firelighters buying guide is how you read the count, the form and any weight that disagrees with the title before you trust the stars. The [firelighter comparison](/hub/grill-accessories/firelighter) holds the full table. The Products Compared editorial team used the amazon.co.uk files as they stood on 20 October 2026. There was no lab test. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What the pack is selling

Form comes before the price. Ten of these listings are wood wool, a waxed shaving sold as a block or a stick. Protecker’s Zip file is a cube sheet: 480 cubes as 12 packs of 40 at £27.99. EMBO is 32 spruce and pine cubes at £3.99. High-density Ecoblaze is still wool, pressed harder, at £7.99 for 200. Price per piece uses the title count. Ecoblaze 200 is £10.99, about 5.5p. Log Barn is £12.99, about 6.5p. Do not divide by Munnie’s 10 kg item weight. Other 200-count wood-wool packs here are about 1.4 kg to 1.9 kg. Wood wool against cubes is on wood wool firelighters vs cubes.

Burn lines and odour lines

A minute figure on a bullet is a claim, not a burn we timed. Ecoblaze 200, KEPLIN, Log Barn and Fastblaze say up to or around 10 minutes. Ecoblaze 1,000 says up to 8 minutes. The high-density bullet says 13 minutes. EMBO, Fox Bunny, both Munnie packs and the Zip multipack print no minute line. A missing minute means you cannot quote a time from that page. Log Barn also prints a dose: one piece on kindling, or two or three without kindling, and you should not hold the firelighter while you light it. Odour lines are claims in the same way. “Natural” is not a certificate. The Air Quality (Domestic Solid Fuels Standards) (England) Regulations 2020 do not name firelighters.

When the file disagrees with itself

Both Munnie listings carry an item weight of 10 kg. Ignore that field. Ecoblaze’s 1,000-count, model EBFL-L-5 at £36.99, shows 4.7 from 13,100, and the first 50 UK review bodies match the 200-count file. The burn line also changes, from up to 10 minutes to up to 8. High-density Ecoblaze prints 3.4 kg, and one review says the package shows 2.1. EMBO’s title says 190 g while the item-weight field says 220 g. Fastblaze’s title says Fastblaze and the brand field says ecoblaze. Zip’s title says Zip and the brand field says Protecker. After those fields, compare the form, the title count, the captured price, and what the UK review sample actually describes.

What this page will not decide

This page does not name a winner. Log Barn leads the independent review file and Ecoblaze 200 is the lower piece price at the same star line, and that split lives on best firelighters UK. It also does not tell you where to put the piece. BS EN 1860-3:2023 is the barbecue-firelighter standard. None of these amazon.co.uk pages states that the pack complies, so this guide will not award a safety mark. Read the title count, divide the captured price by that count, and refuse a weight that fights the title. If the review texts are copied from a sibling listing, do not add the star counts together.

Common questions

What should I read before the star rating?
Read the form, the title count and any weight that disagrees with the title. Munnie’s 10 kg field, EMBO’s 190 g against 220 g, and the high-density 3.4 kg line are the ones that mislead in this set. Stars come after that, because a 4.7 can sit on a copied review file. The Ecoblaze 1,000 listing is the clear example, with review bodies that match the 200-count page.
What does a 10-minute burn line actually mean?
It is the seller’s claim, not a stopwatch result from this comparison. Ecoblaze 200, Log Barn, KEPLIN and Fastblaze print about 10 minutes. Ecoblaze 1,000 prints 8. The high-density bullet prints 13. Four listings print no minute at all, which means you have no figure to quote from those pages. One KEPLIN review reports under 5 minutes, so even a printed line can miss a single burn.
Does “natural” mean Ready to Burn?
No. Ready to Burn applies to logs and wood briquettes under 2 m³, with a certificate number. Log Barn mentions the mark for its firewood and kindling, not as a number on these firelighters. A natural bullet can still sit on wax. Flamers, outside this set, name paraffin wax on a wood-wool product. Do not read the word as approval to burn the pack as stove fuel.
Why do two Munnie listings share reviews?
The 200-count and the 400-count both show 4.5 from 74, and the UK review bodies largely match, including texts that describe a pack of 200. Both item weights say 10 kg. Compare the model lines, MU5664-SFP at £10.49 and MU5665-SFP at £13.99, and count the sticks when they arrive. The stars are one sample, not two.
When is a 32-cube box enough?
EMBO at £3.99 is the short box. Four UK reviews describe a barbecue or a table-top pit, and one says two cubes were enough for that pit. It is a trial, not a season. At about 12.5p a cube it is the dearest piece in the set, and 21 stars with four texts is a thin file. A weekly stove wants a 200-count, after you have read the weight conflicts above.
