Pressure washer suction hose buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You are standing by a water butt or a bucket, the outside tap is out of reach, and the washer manual says this model can draw. The part you need is a suction hose, the inlet pipe, not the high-pressure hose that runs to the lance. This pressure washer suction hose buying guide sorts three objects that share that name: a coupled washer kit, a garden-pump kit, and a bare wire-reinforced tube. The [suction hose comparison](/hub/garden-watering/suction-hose) holds the ten amazon.co.uk listings, the prices and the scores. Products Compared checked those listings on 15 October 2026 and did not run a lab test. A qualifying purchase through our links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Three hoses that share one name

Seven of the ten listings are short yellow washer inlet kits: TOPWAYS, NAMOTEK, YUET, Hierbla, WASH IT, MJFENDAI and SSEHCWAN. Most add a strainer and a quick connector aimed at a Kärcher or Bosch inlet. They are not a pump thread, and they are not a steel-helix tube. VEATON is the only garden-pump inlet kit: 4 m, corrugated, a strainer and a claimed non-return valve, listed at 9 bar. It is not sold as a washer kit. PATIKIL and Meksular are bare clear tubes with a steel spiral and no washer coupling. The head-to-head is on the reinforced tube or washer kit page.

What has to stay open under vacuum

A normal garden hose holds pressure from the inside. On a pump inlet it sees vacuum, and a soft wall can flatten until the pump runs dry. In this set the steel-wire helix is the construction UK reviews describe as a tube you cannot squash by hand. That is PATIKIL’s wall, and Meksular’s, if the bore matches what you ordered. The yellow kits describe a PVC outer, a fibre mesh and a rubber inner. Fibre mesh is not a steel helix. TOPWAYS uses that three-layer description, and UK reviews still say the hose collapses or kinks once the washer starts. VEATON’s line is corrugated plastic, with no helix stated. Treat wall type as a filter, not as a winner.

Strainer, valve, and the machine manual

A strainer stops leaves and grit. A non-return valve holds water in the hose when the pump stops. VEATON, TOPWAYS and SSEHCWAN claim a valve. YUET, WASH IT and NAMOTEK do not, and UK reviews ask for one or say a pre-charge runs back. Several kits say both “50 micron” and “50 mesh”, and nobody here measured either figure. A floating filter is on the water butt page. “Fits Kärcher K2 to K7” is copied across many titles. Kärcher GB says the SH 5 is for K 1 to K 7. Wickes allows K2 or K3 only if that model can suck. A Tooled-Up helpline note says the kit is not compatible with a K2. Read your manual.

Length on the title is not always the hose

Keep the suction side short. Vertical lift follows the manual, not the metres in a title. YUET’s title says 15 m and the catalogue item length is 20 cm. NAMOTEK’s title says 3 m and the catalogue says 5 m. Hierbla’s title says 3 m and the catalogue says 500 cm. SSEHCWAN’s title says 3 m and the catalogue length is 3 cm. Meksular agrees on length and still prints two bores, 32 × 38 mm and 16 × 22 mm. A 5.0 from one or two reviews is not a stronger result than TOPWAYS at 4.3 from 378, which already carries a collapse complaint. Use the shortlist only after the type is settled.

Common questions

Is a suction hose the same part as the hose that goes to the lance?
No. The lance hose carries pressure out to the nozzle. A suction hose is the inlet, and it sees vacuum when the pump draws from a butt, bucket or tank. Using the outlet hose on the inlet, or a soft garden hose in its place, is how the wall flattens and the pump runs dry. The ten listings in this comparison are inlet parts, not lance hoses.
Can you put a normal garden hose on the inlet?
A garden hose is made to resist pressure from the tap, not vacuum from a pump. UK trade notes on suction hose say a delivery hose flattens on a pump inlet, and that a suction hose needs spiral reinforcement. A short garden hose appears in one Kärcher helpline note only as a gravity feed when the butt is raised, which is not the same as asking a K2 to suck through it.
Do you need a washer kit, a pump kit, or a bare tube?
Match the inlet. A pressure washer that the manual allows to draw wants a kit with a filter and a coupling that fits that machine. A garden booster or transfer pump wants a pump inlet kit such as the VEATON row, not a yellow washer connector. A bare helix tube still needs a strainer, clamps and an adapter before it can feed a Kärcher inlet.
Does “fits K2–K7” mean every K2 will draw from a butt?
No. Kärcher GB, Wickes and a Kärcher helpline note do not even agree about Kärcher’s own SH 5 on a K2. One UK review of a marketplace kit describes a new K2 on a full butt starving the pump. Confirm the manual for your model before you treat a title range as a promise of lift.
What does a non-return valve do that a strainer does not?
A strainer keeps debris out of the pump. A non-return valve keeps the hose full when the pump stops, so the next start is not a dry one. VEATON, TOPWAYS and SSEHCWAN claim a valve in this set. A claimed valve can still fail: one VEATON review cut the valve off because it let air in. A missing valve shows up as water running back into the bucket.
