Soaker hose buying guide

Updated: 23 October 2026

You have a hedge or a vegetable row that dries between watering cans, and the amazon.co.uk results mix spray guns, expandable hoses and porous pipe under the same search. This soaker hose buying guide is the criteria page: which length the title actually sells, which pressure figure is the working one, and which parts you still have to buy. The five rows, with prices, sit on the [soaker hose comparison](/hub/garden-watering/soaker-hose). Who each hose is for is on the [best soaker hose](/hub/garden-watering/soaker-hose/sub/soaker-hose-best) page. Those captures are the source. There is no lab test. A qualifying purchase through our links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What you are actually buying

A soaker, seep hose or porous pipe weeps along its wall so water reaches the soil beside it. A spray hose or a misting kit throws water through the air. If the title says drip hose, read the wall. Alederways and VReder both say drip hose set and still describe a porous rubber tube, not spaced emitters. Four of the five rows are recycled rubber or rubber. Gardena’s capture names polyvinyl chloride. None includes a timer, and none names pegs. You are buying the tube and, on some rows, fittings, not a finished system.

Length and the far end

Start with the length in the title. The 15 m rows are B2C at £14.29, Alederways at £29.99 and Gardena at £34.95. The 30 m rows are MAMIZO at £30.62 and VReder at £38.99. Fifteen metres is a short bed or a greenhouse bench. Thirty metres is the longer hedge if you will split it into shorter loops. A longer title does not fix a dry far end or a slope. Gardena’s UK FAQ caps one piece at 30 m and names connection set 1989, which is not in the box. MAMIZO’s bullet says not to run the pipe from a very low place to a high place.

Pressure, flow, and the 70% line

Buy the working pressure, and treat the maximum as a ceiling. Gardena’s bullets name 0.5–1 bar through the control valve. VReder prints 0.6 bar as optimum and 2 bar as maximum. B2C quotes 0.76–1.26 litres per minute per metre at 0.7 bar, and that is also the maximum-pressure line. Alederways prints 0.8 bar as optimum, then 2 bar and 2.5 bar. MAMIZO prints no working pressure and a 2 bar maximum. Do not merge those litres-per-minute claims with Gardena’s 0–15 litres per hour per metre. A jet is not a quality mark. A saving of about 60–70%, or up to 70%, is a listing claim, not an exemption. That limit is on the hosepipe ban page.

Rubber, PVC, and what is not in the box

The Royal Horticultural Society warns that recycled-tyre rubber is the material to avoid on crops you will eat raw. These rubber listings do not prove a food-grade compound. Gardena’s capture is PVC, which is not an automatic pass for salads. B2C’s included-components line says “Depenging on selection”, so the end connectors are not a counted kit. Alederways lists barb pieces and not the 15 mm clamp one review needed. Alederways also prints 16.8 mm outside diameter in a bullet and 1.9 cm on the attribute line. Gardena’s title says 15 m and the length attribute says 150 cm. Burial follows the hose you bought: B2C allows above ground, bark, or a cover to 20 cm, and Gardena’s UK FAQ says do not bury. The laying steps are on how to lay a soaker hose.

Common questions

Is 15 m enough, or do I need 30 m?
Fifteen metres matches a short bed, a greenhouse or a new shrub run. Thirty metres is the MAMIZO or VReder title for a longer hedge. A 30 m title still needs shorter loops if the far end goes dry, which MAMIZO buyers describe from about 10 m.
What pressure should I aim for?
Aim at the working figure, not the maximum. That band is about 0.5–1 bar: Gardena 0.5–1, VReder 0.6, B2C’s flow at 0.7, Alederways 0.8. MAMIZO prints no working pressure and a 2 bar maximum. Alederways also prints both 2 bar and 2.5 bar.
Is recycled rubber a problem for vegetables?
The RHS tells you to avoid recycled-tyre rubber soaker hose on raw crops. These listings do not show a food-safe certificate, so this guide will not call the rubber food-safe. Gardena’s row is PVC, which is a separate question. For salads eaten raw, that caution is the limit.
Why do two length lines on the Gardena capture disagree?
The title, the 15.0 metre unit count and the components line for article 1969-20 say 15 m. The item-length attribute says 150 cm. Both are on the same capture. Connection set 1989, named for an extension towards 30 m, is not in the box.
Are pegs and a timer in the box?
No. None of the five boxes names a timer or pegs. Reviewers add a tap timer or tent pegs themselves. Alederways and VReder list barb fittings. B2C names end connectors without a piece count. Fittings are not stakes.
Does “up to 70%” mean I will use 70% less water?
No. Up to 70%, and Alederways’ 60–70%, is a claim printed on the listing. It is not a measurement on a UK tap, and it is not a hosepipe-ban exemption. The saving depends on how long the tap stays open.
Should I bury it or only mulch it?
Follow the listing you bought. B2C prints burial to 20 cm, or bark on top. VReder and Alederways say under mulch or bark. MAMIZO’s capture does not say. Gardena’s UK FAQ says do not bury. Mixing those lines is how a buried Gardena hose ends up blocked.
