Hunter controller 230 V UK

Updated: 23 October 2026

The parcel has a flat US plug, and the amazon.co.uk title still reads like a controller for a British garage. You can power a 230 V unit with a BS 1363 plug, or a European lead a qualified electrician will connect. UK mains are 230 V. Hunter's US pages list PHC-600, PHC-1200 and PHC-2400 as 120 VAC. The European codes are PHC-601-E, PHC-1201-E and PHC-2401-E at 230 VAC. This page follows that split. Prices sit on the [Hunter Hydrawise comparison](/hub/garden-watering/hunter-hydrawise). Two Pro-HC codes

Read the code before the title. On Hunter's US page, PHC-600, PHC-1200 and PHC-2400 are 120 VAC with a US cable and plug. On the metric page, PHC-601-E, PHC-1201-E and PHC-2401-E are 230 VAC with European connections. The extra 1 and the E are the electrical difference in the model name. PHC-600 and PHC-601-E are both six-zone controllers, and they are not the same supply. The plate outranks the title and the star line. UKCA and WaterSense do not prove the parcel is the European build. Ask for the E code, or read the plate. Station count comes after that, on the which Hunter Hydrawise controller page.

What these amazon listings actually print

Silence on voltage is not a 230 V proof. Listing B06XQ89MPK, the 12-zone Pro-HC at £404 with 4.6 from 270 reviews, has 120 V in the voltage field, and the title points at a PHC-1200. Listing B0GP2Q7Y8Q, at £1,258.76, prints 120 VAC with a US cable and plug and has no reviews. On HPC-400 listing B08BJBKW44, at £226.01, a UK reviewer says the unit was US voltage. Hunter's US HPC-400 description is 120 VAC. The £167 X2 and the £257 and £266 six-zone rows do not print 230 V, so you read the plate. The best Hunter Hydrawise controller page is why the 4.6-star row loses on this test.

What not to do with the lead

A travel adaptor is a pin converter, not a transformer. Fitting one between a 120 V US lead and a BS 1363 socket leaves the primary on the wrong voltage. If the plate says 120 V, the unit goes back or it stays unplugged. A US moulding in a box you ordered as European is the wrong product. Outdoor primary power is for a licensed electrician, in conduit, from an over-current protected supply, which is Hunter's connecting-AC note. Field valves are 24 VAC. Watering stops when AC power is absent. The solenoids stay shut until mains returns.

After the voltage is right

Once the plate says 230 V, or the code is PHC-601-E, PHC-1201-E or PHC-2401-E, count the valve wires. Joining the network is a 2.4 GHz task on channels 1 to 11, on the how to connect Hydrawise Wi-Fi page. In England and Wales, regulation 5 of the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 includes a garden watering system that is not hand-operated, so you notify the undertaker. A temporary use ban can still cover automatic irrigation, and a weather skip inside Hydrawise is not the exemption. A single outside tap is a tap timer, not one of these wall controllers.

Common questions

What is the European model code for a 6-zone Pro-HC?
The European 6-zone code on Hunter's metric Pro-HC page is PHC-601-E, listed at 230 VAC with European connections. The 12-zone European code is PHC-1201-E, and the 24-zone code is PHC-2401-E. The matching US codes drop the 1 and the E: PHC-600, PHC-1200 and PHC-2400, listed at 120 VAC with a US cable. Ask a seller for the E code when the amazon title only shows the US name. The plate in the box closes the question.
Is PHC-600 the same electrical product as PHC-601-E?
They are the six-zone Pro-HC pair in Hunter's two catalogues, and the electrical listings differ. PHC-600 is 120 VAC with a US cable on the US page. PHC-601-E is 230 VAC with European connections on the metric page. Station count, touchscreen and Hydrawise can match in the marketing and the primary voltage still will not. Buy the code that matches 230 V UK mains. A shared photo is not a shared transformer.
Which amazon rows in this set state 120 V?
B06XQ89MPK, the £404 12-zone Pro-HC, states 120 V in the voltage field. B0GP2Q7Y8Q, at £1,258.76, states 120 VAC with a US cable and plug in the bullet, and it has no reviews. Separately, a UK review on HPC-400 listing B08BJBKW44 says that unit was US voltage, and a review on B08T21NKLF contrasts 120 with 220. Those reviews describe what those buyers received. They are still a reason to stop before you plug in.
Does a missing voltage line mean 230 V?
No. A blank line means the listing did not tell you. Hunter's US table still lists the familiar names, PHC-600, PHC-1200, PHC-2400 and the US HPC-400 description, at 120 VAC. You either get the European code from the seller or you read the rating plate when the box arrives, before it is powered. The £167 X2 and the £257 six-zone Pro-HC need that same check.
Who wires an outdoor cabinet?
Hunter's connecting-AC note assigns outdoor primary power to a licensed electrician, in conduit, from an over-current protected supply. Indoor enclosures are not weather resistant, so they stay indoors even after the voltage is right. The valve outputs are 24 VAC, and no battery runs those valves. If you are also adding a new buried main, a backflow device, a pump start or a master valve, that side of the job belongs with an irrigation installer. The plug check is the part you can do before either tradesperson arrives.
