Dirty water pump buying guide

Updated: 22 October 2026

A dirty water pump buying guide is the order of questions to ask before the litres-per-hour badge decides for you. That badge is the volume at a modest lift, not the flow at the top of the stairs. Match the particle size and the head first. The [Einhell dirty water pump comparison](/hub/garden-watering/einhell-dirty-water-pump) applies those tests to the twelve amazon.co.uk listings in this set. Peter F. used the listings from 19 October 2026, Einhell UK pages and public UK safety sources. There is no lab test. Particle size and residual water

Particle size is the hole the pump claims it can pass. In this set, 25 mm is the GC-DP 3325 and the GE-DP 18/25 cordless bodies, for leaves and light silt. 35 mm is the GC-DP 7835, the GC-DP 9035 N and several FOTING bullets, for muddy water. A stainless FOTING at £62.99 claims only 5 mm solids while printing 900 W. Stainless resists corrosion. It does not turn a 5 mm passage into a rubble pump. Ordinary models leave roughly 20 mm to 90 mm. Reviewers of the £37.97 GC-DP 3325 say the last 20–30 mm stays. The GE-DP 7035 LL, and the cordless LL model, claim about 1 mm on flat suction, and that claim needs a hard, level base. Named picks are on the best Einhell dirty water pump page.

Head before flow

Head is the vertical lift, plus the losses in a long or kinked hose. Flow is what is left after that lift. Einhell’s dirty-water pages say delivery falls as the height rises, and flow is about zero at maximum head. The GC-DP 7835 maximum is 8 m. That is not 8 m of 15,700 L/h. A Devon reviewer could not raise water 10 m in one stage. A FOTING file at £56.99 claims 28,000 L/h and 11 m. Treat that flow as a title without a published curve.

Power, plug and temperature

Mains pumps in this set are meant for 230 V and a BS 1363 plug, on a socket with 30 mA RCD protection. Outdoor mobile equipment up to 32 A needs that RCD under BS 7671 regulation 411.3.3. The GC-DP 3325 file prints 120 V. Einhell’s family data is 230 V, so check the plate. Some GC-DP 7835 reviews report a two-pin plug. Do not cut it off. Einhell publishes 35 °C maximum on the GC-DP 7835, so hot-tub water has to cool. Toolstation’s page says that model is not for fish ponds or a permanent installation. Cordless bodies, at about 5 m and 0.5 bar, belong on the mains or cordless page.

What to leave for the comparison

Watts are a poor tie-break once particle size, head, residual water, plug and temperature are in order. A 330 W GC-DP 3325 at £37.97 can be the right pump for a cooled tub, and a 900 W listing can be the wrong one if the passage is 5 mm. Hose and clips are extra. The £25.99 miniature pumps, one about 200 g, are not cellar tools, and a sewage browse path is not a sewage-pump certificate.

Common questions

What does particle size actually change?
Particle size is the largest solid the listing claims the pump will pass. 25 mm, on the GC-DP 3325 and the GE-DP 18/25 models, suits leaves and light silt. 35 mm, on the GC-DP 7835 and the GC-DP 9035 N, is the muddier band. A 5 mm claim on the stainless FOTING at £62.99 is a different tool, even at 900 W. Stones and hair can still block a pump inside its stated limit.
Why is the pump weak at the top of the steps?
Maximum head and maximum flow do not happen together. The GC-DP 7835 is rated to 8 m and 15,700 L/h as separate peaks, and flow falls towards nothing near the top of that head. A Devon reviewer could not raise water 10 m in one stage. A kinked hose adds further loss, so check the route before you shop for a larger litre claim.
Do I need a stainless housing?
Stainless resists corrosion. The GC-DP 9035 N pairs it with 35 mm solids, 9 m of head and a 5 m immersion limit, at £70.99. It does not raise the 35 °C water limit or stop the early failures reviewers describe. A stainless FOTING that claims only 5 mm solids is a poor swap for gritty water. Check the particle line as well as the housing.
Will a dirty water pump run a sprinkler?
Not usefully. Einhell’s pressure on these dirty-water models is about 0.5 bar to 0.9 bar, and the cordless bodies are about 0.5 bar. Einhell describes garden watering with that cordless pump as only limited. A sprinkler needs a surface pump built for pressure. These submersibles move volume to waste, however large the litres-per-hour title looks.
What plug should a UK listing have?
A mains pump for a UK socket should arrive with a BS 1363 plug, on a circuit with 30 mA RCD protection. The GC-DP 3325 file prints 120 V, which conflicts with Einhell’s 230 V family data, so check the plate. Some GC-DP 7835 buyers report a two-pin plug. Do not cut it off. Return the unit and buy a listing whose plug matches a UK supply.
