Circular sprinkler buying guide

Updated: 22 October 2026

The lawn outside the kitchen is a shape before it is a product, and a circular sprinkler buying guide only helps once you know that shape is a circle. A hose-end head waters a circle or a sector of a circle. It does not draw a rectangle. Peter F. updated this guide on 22 October 2026 from the ten amazon.co.uk listings in the [circular sprinkler comparison](/hub/garden-watering/circular-sprinkler). A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. Prices and stars are those saved UK listings, not a lab test. Match the type to the grass, then check the tap, and treat every square-metre claim as a maximum.

What counts as a circular sprinkler

Three circular types sit in this set, plus one dial that only partly belongs. An impact, or pulsating, head knocks a spring arm aside and lets it click back, which walks the jet around. In this folder the impact sleds are the STYDDI zinc base at £26.99 and the FANHAO metal sled at £35.99. Both list an arc from 20° to 360°. A three-arm rotary is a different machine. Ram, Green Haven, Wisdomwell and Dermasy are that type. None of those pages describes trip collars. You place the head so the whole circle lands on grass, or you move it. GRÜNTEK’s metal spike at £22.78 lists 30° to 360° and four modes named FLAT, FAN, LARGE, and MINI. Hozelock’s 2515 dial at £17.31 is the partial fit: eight patterns and a stated circle of about 10 m across, not a pure impact head. A long rectangle with a path along the house is a different tool, which is the point of circular vs oscillating sprinkler.

Base, arc, and the hose fitting

The base decides where the head can stand. A spike holds in soil and in a border. Both GRÜNTEK listings are spikes. A sled sits. STYDDI is listed at 650 g and FANHAO at 740 g, against 173 g to 320 g for the plastic rotaries. The arc is the second cut. Impact sleds and both GRÜNTEK spikes list a part circle. The cheap rotaries do not. If you need the spray to stop at a path, do not buy a 360° head and hope a collar appears in the box. Collar clicks themselves belong on how to set a circular sprinkler, after the head is on the hose. The fitting is the third cut. UK hoses are usually 12.5 mm or 19 mm, joined with a click fitting. Do not assume the adaptor is a UK click fitting until you hold it. A missing washer is the usual leak. The smaller GRÜNTEK listing describes a 1 inch male thread, so try the joint at the tap before you spike the head.

How to read the coverage number

A 10 m diameter is a 5 m radius, and that circle is about 79 m². Hozelock’s 2515 states 79 m² and a diameter of about 10 m, so those two lines agree. They are still a maximum on the pressure the maker used. GRÜNTEK’s spike claims up to 452 m². A full circle of that area implies a radius of about 12 m. That radius is a maximum, not a promise for every UK tap. Ram, Green Haven, and Wisdomwell print 26 to 32.8 feet, about 8 m to 10 m. Only Wisdomwell calls that a diameter. Dermasy’s 3,600 square feet only agrees with 32.8 feet if that distance is a radius. Ignore the broken flow fields of 0.01 gallons per minute and 254.47 litres per minute.

Which band to open

The middle band, about £17 to £23, is Hozelock at £17.31 for a deliberate 79 m², the GRÜNTEK arc at £17.98 with no trustworthy area, and the GRÜNTEK spike at £22.78 with the 452 m² maximum. The upper end of this set is the impact sleds: STYDDI at £26.99 and FANHAO at £35.99. If a temporary use ban is already on your supply, do not buy any of these to water an established lawn from the mains.

Common questions

Will the printed square metres happen on my tap?
Treat the number as a maximum at the pressure the listing assumes. Hozelock’s 79 m² matches a 10 m diameter on paper. GRÜNTEK’s 452 m² is a full-circle maximum of about 12 m radius. Masseys DIY says a printed area shrinks on a long or narrow hose. A weak tap, or a second head sharing the same supply, makes the circle smaller still.
Is a £7 rotary enough for a small circle?
Ram at £6.99, with 4.3 from 1,101 reviews, is the best-value full circle in this set for a small lawn. It has no sector stop. If the grass is under about 80 m² and roughly round, that band is the one to open. If you need to keep a path dry, move up to a sector spike or an impact sled.
Do I need a UK click fitting?
Most UK hoses use a click fitting. Several heads in this set ship with a quick-connect adaptor that may be a US garden-hose thread. Fit it at the tap and look for a washer before you blame the spray. A leak at the nut is a connector problem, not proof the nozzle is blocked.
Is about 2 bar enough?
Dermasy’s listing prints a minimum of about 28.4 psi, which is about 2 bar. Below that, three-arm heads in this set stop spinning. Household pressure is often described as roughly 1–4 bar, and a long half-inch hose sits at the low end of that rule of thumb. If a cheap rotary will not turn, a larger printed area will not turn either.
Can two heads run in series?
GRÜNTEK’s listings and the Dermasy bullets mention linking. Linking splits the flow. On a modest tap the second head is the one that stalls. Series is a limit, not a bonus, unless the hose is short and the pressure is high.
