Best Gardena loppers

Updated: 22 October 2026

A star sort will put the EasyCut L first, at 4.8 from 31 reviews, ahead of the SlimCut's 4.1 from 311. The best Gardena loppers are best for one job: live shrubs at chest height, green wood further away, hard or dead wood, or thinning inside a bush. There is no single trophy. The [Gardena loppers comparison](/hub/garden-tree-and-hedge-shears/gardena-loppers) holds the price table. Prices are amazon.co.uk snapshots from 20 October 2026. Best for live shrubs at chest height

The EasyCut L is the fixed bypass for fresh green wood, stated at 45 mm, with a size field of 68 cm and an item weight of 1.02 kg. Here it is £39.99, the lowest price of the five. UK reviews praise clean cuts, and two say it managed wood up to that 45 mm. Skip it on very dry or dead wood. The arms do not extend, and the box has no blade cover or head lock. A 4.8 from 31 reviews is a high line on a short list, not the same evidence as a few hundred reviews.

Best when green wood is out of reach

TeleCut Pro S and Pro L are both bypass loppers for green wood, both stated at 50 mm, and neither names a gear. Pro S is 520–670 mm, 1.54 kg and £51.37. Pro L is 650–900 mm, 1.86 kg and £66.55. Buy the Pro S when 670 mm covers the shrub from the ground. Buy the Pro L only when you have measured a gap up to 900 mm and you can hold 1.86 kg. The titles say 670 cm and 900 cm. Those are not the size fields. The Gardena telescopic loppers page stays on that error. Skip both if the wood is dead. The Pro S bullet states 25 years. The Pro L bullets do not.

Best for hard or dead wood

The SmartCut is the only anvil: a four-stage ratchet, stated for hard wood up to 45 mm, at 59 cm and £72.99. The line is 4.3 from 260 reviews. UK reviews credit the ratchet with less effort. A blade guard is in the box. The listing weight is 798 g. The catalogue page says about 1.3 kg. Show the listing figure. Leave it if you wanted a clean cut on a living stem. An anvil can crush green growth. Two UK reviews say the ratchet stops engaging. One says the pivot pin broke or came loose and a spare did not arrive. The bullets do not state a warranty.

Best for thinning inside a bush

The SlimCut is the long narrow bypass for working inside a shrub, not a 45 mm lopper. The size field says 117 cm, the weight is 1.22 kg, and the cutting-width field says 28 mm. You reset from 1:12 to 1:6 inside that limit. The price here is £72.99, and the star line is 4.1 from 311 reviews. One UK review returned it because the operating strap detached. Skip it when the stem is around 45 or 50 mm. The spare-part field says 2 years, which is not a warranty. Gardena bypass or anvil loppers stays on the crush.

Common questions

Which Gardena lopper is best for fresh green shrubs?
The EasyCut L, if a fixed 68 cm bypass reaches and the wood is within 45 mm. It is £39.99 in this snapshot. If the same green wood sits further in, use TeleCut Pro S up to 670 mm, or Pro L up to 900 mm, both stated at 50 mm. Best here means the stem is still alive. It does not mean the highest star line on a dead branch.
Which one is for dead or hard wood?
The SmartCut. It is the only anvil, with a four-stage ratchet and a stated 45 mm cut, at £72.99. UK reviews praise the ratchet and also report a ratchet that stops and a pivot that failed. Use it on hard or dry wood, not as a cleaner cut on a living shrub. The bypass models are the wrong head for that job.
Is SlimCut the one for thick branches?
Only inside 28 mm. The gears are 1:12 and 1:6 within that field. The title's thick bushes means reaching into a shrub with a narrow head at 117 cm, not matching the 45 mm EasyCut or SmartCut. If the branch is thicker than 28 mm, this is the wrong listing, however strong one UK review found the build.
Why is SmartCut the same price as SlimCut and a different tool?
Both are £72.99 in these snapshots, the top of this set. The SmartCut is a 59 cm anvil ratchet for hard wood at 45 mm, with a blade guard. The SlimCut is a 117 cm bypass for thinning at 28 mm. Same money, different head, length and diameter. That price does not make them interchangeable.
Does a higher star score with fewer reviews win?
Not on its own. The EasyCut's 4.8 from 31 reviews is a higher line than the SlimCut's 4.1 from 311, and a smaller sample. The TeleCuts sit at 4.7, from 90 and from 151. Use the stars as the listing's score, then match the head to the wood. Five-star comments on green wood do not make that tool the dead-wood choice.
Did Gardeners' World test these Gardena loppers?
No. The 17 March 2026 guide names other brands, with recommended prices from about £26 to £220. None of these five ASINs is in that table. A Gardena mention on a different model, or a German test index, is not a score for the EasyCut L, the TeleCuts, the SmartCut or the SlimCut.
