Garden water meter buying guide

Updated: 22 October 2026

You are standing at an outside tap with a watering can in one hand and your phone in the other, scrolling star counts. A garden water meter buying guide is the order of checks before you spend about £16.99 to £37.99 on amazon.co.uk: what you are counting, whether the screen can show litres, whether the thread will seal on a UK tap, and whether a flow range is even printed. Prices and the nine-row table sit on the [garden water meter comparison](/hub/garden-supplies/garden-water-meter). The Products Compared editorial team read those amazon.co.uk files and public UK sources on 19 October 2026, with no lab test. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What you are counting

A hose meter in this set is a session counter between tap and hose, or an app log of those sessions. You use it to portion a border, fill a pond or caravan tank, or keep a private notebook of outside-tap use. It is not the water company’s revenue meter, and it does not lift a temporary use ban under the Water Industry Act 1991. Eight of the nine listings are click-on or screw-on LCD bodies. One, DEWIN B07XNYMWJD at about £25.99, is a 15 mm copper dial meant for pipe, not a Hozelock tail. If your job is cutting into 15 mm, open hose water meter or inline water meter instead of scoring that dial as a weak hose gadget. For a hose total you can read without a plumber, stay with the LCD shapes and decide what the listing must print before you trust the stars.

Litres, thread, and a stated range

UK metered bills are reckoned in cubic metres. One cubic metre is 1,000 litres. A US gallon is about 3.785 litres. Prefer a listing that states a litres switch. On several RESTMO models the bullet says a long press in flow mode flips gallon and litre; Shrivee says litres on a short press. Thread comes next. Hozelock’s common outdoor tap connector is 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch BSP. A listing that only says 3/4 inch can still be US garden-hose thread. RESTMO brass B0GCLLWZF9 names brass ends and IPX6 but not BSP. The cheaper adaptor RESTMO B0DSZMTVS2 names 3/4 to 1/2 inch parts in the bullet, and a UK review still called the thread US GHT. Range is the third printed fact. Shrivee states 2–45 L/min, 0–8 bar, and 3–45°C with a ±5% line. Most other bullets say under 5% or ±5% with no flow points. Fitting the washer and the arrow is on how to fit a hose water meter.

What the star line does not prove

Rainpoint B0GZK977QG shows 4.7 from 73 at about £37.99, with dual brass ends and Bluetooth, yet only two of the first fifty review blocks in the file are from the United Kingdom. RESTMO Bluetooth B0DTTY92ZT has 4.3 from 3,940 and every sampled block dated UK, but the listing omits thread size and IP rating. Insoma B0H1CQ4SJ1 is 5.0 from one rating with no review text, so there is nothing to quote on litre behaviour. Hoite B0FLDTHXGN is about £16.99 and 3.6 from 12, with three UK texts and no tolerance printed. The RESTMO Bluetooth dimensions field of 60 × 20 × 50 mm does not match a review that called the body about 5 cm wide.

What to leave for another page

This page does not crown a winner. The top pick and best value roles, with who should skip each, sit on best garden water meter. Whether a private reading can change a wastewater charge is a company question, not a feature of any ASIN here.

Common questions

Should I buy the garden water meter with the most stars?
Not first. Start with a litres switch, a thread you can seal on a UK outside tap, and a stated flow range where you need one. Then read the UK review texts. Rainpoint’s 4.7 and the Bluetooth RESTMO’s 3,940 reviews both look strong until the missing BSP line and the thin UK notes are counted.
Does 3/4 inch mean it fits my outside tap?
Not automatically. Hozelock’s outdoor connector is 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch BSP. A listing can say 3/4 inch and still be US garden-hose thread. Confirm the thread or plan an adaptor before you force the nut.
How do I get litres instead of US gallons?
Follow the bullet for that ASIN. Several RESTMO models use a long press in flow mode; Shrivee uses a short press. Check a watering can on day one. UK reviews on the 360° RESTMO say litres never appeared even when the bullet promised them.
Is under 5% a test result?
No. It is a seller bullet. Schedule 6 of the Measuring Instruments Regulations 2016 sets in-use errors for cold-water meters used for trade; these nine files do not show that approval. UK jug tests in the RESTMO files both match and miss.
What is IPX6 actually promising?
IPX5 and IPX6 describe resistance to water jets under IEC 60529. They do not mean you can submerge the body or leave it through a hard frost. RESTMO brass claims IPX6; Shrivee and Insoma claim IPX5; several plastic bodies print no IP code.
Why is a 15 mm dial meter in this list?
DEWIN is the only inline dial in the folder. It belongs if you are fitting 15 mm pipe to an outside tap feed. It is the wrong object for a click-on hose total. Use the versus page for that fork.
Is Bluetooth worth about £30 if the screen already shows the total?
Only if you need an app history and you have seen that the app will export or reset what you need. The RESTMO Bluetooth bullet rules out Wi-Fi. UK reviews still report pairing trouble and a total that would not download. Brass, litres, and a dry battery bay matter before the app.
