Corded or cordless

The Ark Mat LW-1 is listed at 400 W with a 10 m lead for £55.95, and the Ecobuild HB-GW1110 is listed at 450 W with a 10 m cable for £59.99. You still need an outdoor RCD rated at not more than 30 mA. UK mains are 230 V. None of these listings prove a BS 1363 plug or an IP rating. The Einhell solo, the Einhell kit, the Ryobi RY18PCA-0 and the Kärcher WRE 18-55 are all 18 V, and the packs do not swap between brands. Electrical Safety First says not to use mains garden tools on dew or in the rain.

What the box actually contains

The Ryobi RY18PCA-0 is £83.95 with battery and charger excluded, and the box is a wire brush only. The Kärcher WRE 18-55 is £128.99, the battery is sold separately, and the head is nylon with no steel wheel. The Einhell kit at £75.95 puts a battery and a charger in the amazon title. Einhell’s UK shop describes model 3424051 as a 2.0 Ah kit. The amazon listing only says battery and charger, so do not treat 2.0 Ah as printed on that page. One reviewer expected two batteries and found one. Another found steel only and ordered the nylon brush the bullets had claimed. Ecobuild’s bullets say 2.68 kg and the technical line says 10.4 kg. Ryobi’s own shop showed the bare tool at £121.99 in this window. The comparison price stays £83.95.

Brush before motor speed

The wheel decides more than the watt figure. Narrower block joints, often about 2–5 mm, belong on the electric weed remover for block paving page, because a wide wheel rides the block instead of dropping into the gap. Do not rank the motors by the rpm line. The solo prints 1,200 rpm, Ryobi 1,350 rpm, and Kärcher a maximum of 2,800 rpm, on different wheels. A brush is not a pesticide, and glyphosate’s approval in Great Britain to 15 December 2026 does not mean the root comes out.

What a star rating is not

A star is an amazon.co.uk average, not a trial we ran. The solo is 4.1 from 3,333 reviews, the kit 4.0 from 2,187, Ryobi 4.3 from 1,787, and Kärcher 3.8 from 1,104. Only seven of the first 50 Kärcher texts are written as United Kingdom reviews. Ark Mat is 4.3 from 621. Ecobuild is 4.7 from 4. On Einhell’s UK shop the nylon brush 3424110 was about £11.95 and the set 3424115 about £15.95, which is a shop price, not an amazon price. An Ark Mat reviewer wore a wire wheel down after about six hours on a large brick drive.

Common questions

Should you buy corded or cordless for a patio?
Buy corded when a dry patio sits within about 10 m of a socket and you want both brush types without a battery. Ark Mat and Ecobuild are the mains listings, at £55.95 and £59.99. Buy cordless when the lead would cross steps or wrap the house, and only if you already own that brand’s 18 V pack or you are paying for one in the Einhell kit at £75.95. The packs do not swap between Einhell, Ryobi and Kärcher.
Why is the cheapest listing not the cheapest to run?
The Einhell solo is £47.36 and does not include a battery or charger. If you already own a Power X-Change pack, that shelf price is close to the price of the tool. If you do not, you still have to buy a pack before it turns. The Ark Mat at £55.95 is a higher sticker and a lower first-day cost, because the lead is the power source. Spare wire wheels then add cost on either tool.
Do you already own an 18 V pack that fits?
Match the brand before you match the brush. Power X-Change fits both Einhell listings. ONE+ fits the Ryobi RY18PCA-0. A Kärcher 18 V battery fits the WRE 18-55. A pack from a fourth brand is not a compatible extra in these boxes. The Einhell kit is the only cordless listing here whose amazon title includes the battery and the charger.
Wire, steel or nylon for the stone you have?
Use steel or the metal wheel on robust brick, concrete and block when you can accept a mark. Use nylon on sandstone and softer tiles, and accept slower cutting and faster wear. What joint width is a rotary brush aimed at?
Einhell’s UK pages put cordless joint brushes at about 10–15 mm. The steel spare 3424100 is described for joints from 15 mm, and the nylon 3424110 for joints from 10 mm. Many block joints are specified nearer 2–5 mm, so the wheel often works across the mouth of the gap. That is why a brush can clear moss and still leave the root.
