Garden storage box buying guide

Updated: 23 October 2026

You are on a wet patio with a tape measure. A garden storage box buying guide is useful only if it says which line to trust before the price. Shelves here run from £44.45 to £74.01, and every specifications table says water resistant even when the title says waterproof or weatherproof. The [waterproof storage box comparison](/hub/garden-furniture/waterproof-storage-box) is the four-row table. This page is the order: water wording, then centimetres, then the lock and any kilogram figure. Peter F. read these extracts on 21 October 2026 and did not hose the boxes. What the listing must show before you pay

Read the water line first. Kentwood at £44.45 and Marvel+ at £74.01 say weatherproof in the title. Signature at £47.62 says weather-resistant. Olsen & Smith at £49.99 says waterproof. Every table says water resistant, and none prints an IP code to map onto BS EN 60529. If ordinary rain enters after a waterproof title, that is a description point under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Only Olsen & Smith lists a lock, and one review of 463 says it did not arrive.

190 litres or 270 litres

The brown Kentwood, model 262404, prints 45.7 x 82.3 x 57.7 cm outside and 44.6 x 81.6 x 56.6 cm inside. The Signature, model 271521, swaps width and depth. On both, the item table repeats 82.3 cm and drops the 45.7 cm side, so use the bullet. At about 82 cm this is a short run. The Marvel+, model 247661, agrees with itself at 116.7 x 44.7 x 57 cm outside and 114.4 x 40 x 51.2 cm inside: about 117 cm of wall, and only 40 cm of internal width. Olsen & Smith prints 104.7 x 49 x 53.1 cm inside, then 109 x 51 x 55 cm outside in the bullet and 43 x 78 x 56 cm in the table. Those external figures cannot both be the box. A mylushgarden rule of thumb, not a measurement of these chests, puts four seats and two backs near 200 to 250 litres. The resin or metal garden storage box page is the fork away from these chests.

Sitting, wind and assembly

Sit only where a kilogram figure is printed. BS EN 581-2 uses a 110 kg basis and skips weather ageing. None of these four cites it. The Kentwood prints 110 kg, the Marvel+ 219.99 kg, Olsen & Smith 100 kg, and the Signature no figure at all. Empty weight is about 5.6 to 6.4 kg, and shared 190 litre reviews say an empty box moves in a breeze unless you weigh it down. Only the Kentwood says tool-free setup in under 10 minutes. The first 50 brown and rosewood texts match, both 4.6 from 414. Cushion fit is on the garden cushion storage box page.

The short choice once the wall is known

The Kentwood at £44.45 is the 190 litre row when you want 110 kg printed and 45.7 cm of depth fits. The Marvel+ is the 270 litre row for about 117 cm of wall, two wheels and 40 cm inside. Olsen & Smith at £49.99 is the other 270 litre listing only after the lock and the tape match the carton. The Signature is the finish and the 70 percent recycled line, not a seat with a number.

Common questions

What should I check before the price?
Check the specifications table for the words water resistant, then the internal centimetres, then whether a lock is listed in the carton. On these four amazon.co.uk extracts the table always says water resistant, from £44.45 to £74.01. The title may say waterproof or weatherproof above that line. Price is the sort you do after the box fits the wall and the job.
Which listing actually says a lock is in the box?
Olsen & Smith lists a lock in included components. One review says it did not arrive, so you check the carton on the day. The Keter Kentwood, Signature and Marvel+ pages say the lid is lockable and do not confirm a padlock in the box. A hasp without a lock is still a hasp. You bring your own padlock when the contents line never names one.
Can I sit on it, and where is the kilogram figure?
The brown Kentwood prints 110 kg. The Marvel+ prints 219.99 kg. Olsen & Smith prints 100 kg, and some reviewers say they would not sit. The rosewood Signature prints no kilogram figure beside the seat claim. None of them cites BS EN 581-2. If someone will sit, use a printed number, and still do not treat it as a laboratory pass for outdoor furniture.
Why does the Amazon size table not match the bullet?
On the two 190 litre Keter listings the item table repeats 82.3 cm and drops the 45.7 cm depth from the bullet. On Olsen & Smith the bullet says 109 x 51 x 55 cm and the table says 43 x 78 x 56 cm. The Marvel+ is the row where bullet and table agree, at 116.7 x 44.7 x 57 cm. When they clash, tape the bullet figure and ask the seller which size they will honour.
Are the brown and rosewood 190 litre reviews separate?
No. The first 50 review texts in the brown Kentwood extract are the same texts as in the rosewood Signature extract, and both show 4.6 from 414. A comment about a rosewood finish is not evidence about the brown panels alone. Do not count the sample twice.
