Stacking garden chairs buying guide

Updated: 22 October 2026

You need spare seats for a patio lunch, and the amazon.co.uk page in front of you will not say how much weight the chair takes. This stacking garden chairs buying guide is the order of checks to run before a star rating gets a vote. Peter F. looked at four green, armless plastic listings captured on 21 October 2026. Seat depth is 38 cm on every one of them, and user weight is blank on every one of them. What you are buying

A stacking garden chair in this set is a one-piece plastic seat that nests with the same model. All four listings say they are stackable, not foldable, and that you unpack them with no tools. Grass is a question the pages ask and do not answer. The set of four is the clam back. The other three are low backs. Seat height is not printed, so do not pencil a dining-guide figure onto a listing that never states it.

The checks, in order

Start with the count. Number of items is how many chairs are in the box. The VTL bullet uses the word set, and the count fields say one. Then the answers that match four times: armless, 38 cm deep, not foldable, no assembly. A 38 cm seat is shorter than the 40–45 cm some dining guides suggest. The load line is the check these listings fail. If the page does not print a user weight, you do not have one. A reviewer’s own weight is not a specification. Argos prints 110 kg on the Bica, and JYSK prints a 110 kg test on the Nabben. BS EN 581-2, in the BSI scope, bases mechanical tests on users up to 110 kg and leaves weathering out. None of that text is on these four listings. Do not copy 110 kg across. When the two size blocks disagree, do not average them. The VTL attribute says 40 × 30 × 30 cm against a bullet height of 82 cm.

What these four listings actually print

The set of four, B093Q68MXV, is £56.99 with 4.0 from 469 ratings. Bullets say about 80 cm high. The attribute says 57 × 53 × 77 cm. It is the most documented pack, which is not the same as the strongest. The set of six, B098QSWNNG, is £77.99 with 4.0 from 210 ratings. Its attribute, 38 × 55 × 80 cm, lines up with the bullets. The indoor field says indoor while the title says indoor or outdoor. The set of eight, B098TBHG9H, is £97.99 with 4.2 from 77 ratings, an attribute of 61 × 57 × 81 cm, and a swivel field the bullets do not describe. The VTL chair is £21.99 with 4.1 from 23 ratings. Conditional picks are on best stacking garden chairs.

Rules that are not on the Amazon bullet

In Great Britain, the General Product Safety Regulations 2005 require a safe product. GOV.UK says those regulations were superseded in Northern Ireland on 13 December 2024 by EU Regulation 2023/988. None of the four listings cites BS EN 581-1. The fire rules for upholstered furniture, as FIRA’s guide describes the 1988 rules, do not apply to a non-upholstered garden chair. A cushion you add later can be a different case. If a chair arrives cracked, or a leg snaps and the goods are faulty, unfit or not as described, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 gives you 30 days to reject them. Winter storage is on how to store stacking garden chairs.

Common questions

What should I check before I buy a stacking garden chair?
Count the chairs from number of items, then confirm the chair is stackable rather than foldable, and that you are happy with no arms. Read the seat depth, which is 38 cm on all four listings here, and look for a user weight. If that line is blank, you do not have a load figure. Finally compare the bullet size with the attribute size, and do not average them when they clash.
Why is there no weight limit on these amazon listings?
The four captured pages leave user weight empty. Other UK shops do print one: Argos states 110 kg on the Bica, and JYSK states a 110 kg test on the Nabben. Those figures belong to those chairs. A star rating on simpahome or VTL does not transfer them, and a reviewer’s body weight is not the product specification.
Is 38 cm seat depth enough for a meal?
It is a short seat next to the 40–45 cm depth some dining guides suggest. You can eat a barbecue plate on it. A long sit, or a guest who wants a deep chair, will feel the limit. Seat height is not printed, so table fit is still unknown even if the depth is acceptable.
Can I trust the size if another line disagrees?
No. Keep both figures and treat the footprint as unresolved. On the VTL chair the bullets say 82 cm high, 55 cm long and 53 cm wide, and the attribute says 40 × 30 × 30 cm. On the set of four the bullets say about 80 cm high and the attribute says 77 cm. Measure after delivery if the space is tight.
Does a 4-star rating mean they passed a British Standard?
No. None of the four listings cites BS EN 581. The stars are amazon.co.uk ratings: 4.0 from 469, 4.0 from 210, 4.2 from 77, and 4.1 from 23. A larger file that describes snapped legs is more informative than a slightly higher star on fewer reviews.
