Aluminium or teak garden table

Updated: 22 October 2026

An amazon.co.uk tab at about £160 and a teak table at £450 or more are not one market. An aluminium or teak garden table choice is material, care, and which shop's sentence you may quote. The three listings are aluminium or a plastic wood-effect top, and none is a teak ASIN. Who they suit is on [best extending garden table](/hub/garden-furniture/extendable-garden-table/sub/extendable-garden-table-best). Measurements are on the [extending garden table buying guide](/hub/garden-furniture/extendable-garden-table/sub/extendable-garden-table-buying-guide). Opening the top is on [how to extend a garden table](/hub/garden-furniture/extendable-garden-table/sub/extendable-garden-table-how-to-extend). The rows are on our [extendable garden table comparison](/hub/garden-furniture/extendable-garden-table). Peter F. compared public listings. No weathering test here crowns one material. What the three amazon.co.uk tables are made of

TIMBER RIDGE TR 7014, at £62.99, is an all-aluminium concertina picnic table, 8.4 kg, with a carry bag. It is not sold as a timber top. Outsunny, at £165.99, has a powder-coated aluminium frame and a plastic wood-effect top, 5 mm thick, 21 kg, 80 cm to 160 cm. The plastic top is not teak, even when the colour is beige. JUMMICO, at £155.90, is aluminium rails, and the weight rows say 16.5 kg or about 13.7 kg. Weather resistant appears with no standard number, and stain resistant is No. Powder coat limits oxidation only while the coat is intact. None of the three carries an FSC claim.

What UK teak sellers say about oil and colour

Teak going silver-grey is normal on the sellers we checked, not a sign that the table has failed. Barlow Tyrie's stockist FAQ says oil does not extend the life of the timber and that they do not recommend oil. Indian Ocean's care page, for their own FSC plantation teak, says a silver patina appears in about three months, that oil can leave black spots, and that new teak can bleed onto pale stone. That FSC line is about their furniture, not a badge for the amazon.co.uk tables. Oil is not required to stop the timber rotting, and oiling by habit can mark the surface. BS EN 581-3:2026 does not test ageing, so neither material wins the weather because of that standard.

Price and weight, shop by shop

On amazon.co.uk, in this set only, about £63 is the portable aluminium extender and about £156 to £166 is a fixed-leg aluminium patio extender. Outsunny is £165.99 and 21 kg. JUMMICO is £155.90. TIMBER RIDGE is £62.99 and 8.4 kg. Teak starts much higher, and the shop name stays attached. Jati's Oxburgh is £450, or £500 for the double-leaf version, about 45 kg or 51 kg, with a parasol pole up to 5 cm. Jo Alexander's Henley is £795. Barlow Tyrie's Aura is £2,331 at GardenSite. Those figures are not amazon.co.uk prices, and no hole is stated on the three listings here.

When to choose aluminium, and when to choose teak

Choose aluminium from this amazon.co.uk set when you want a boot, a balcony, or a patio table around £156 to £166, and you will wash the coating rather than scrub it with a pressure washer. Choose the Outsunny when you want 80 cm to 160 cm that agree and a plastic top you will not oil as timber. Choose teak when you accept £450 or more at a named specialist and a colour that may go grey. Jati's can remain outdoors belongs to the Oxburgh page, not to the TIMBER RIDGE listing. Skip these three if a 5 cm parasol pole must pass through the top.

Common questions

Will teak rot if I do not oil it?
Barlow Tyrie's FAQ says oil does not extend the life of teak and that they do not recommend it. Indian Ocean says a silver-grey patina in about three months is normal on their furniture, and that oil can cause black spots. Untreated teak changing colour is not the same sentence as it will rot this winter. If you oil, do it because you want the brown colour and your maker allows it.
Will an aluminium garden table rust?
Aluminium does not rust the way untreated steel does. It oxidises, and powder coat is there to limit that. The coat only works while it is intact. A deep scratch can let oxidation start, and salt air near the coast is harsher on a broken coat. Outsunny says rust resistant without a test number. Wash with a damp cloth. Do not assume a pressure washer is a safe short cut.
Why is teak several times the price of these listings?
You are comparing different shops and different timber. The amazon.co.uk tables here are £62.99, £155.90 and £165.99, in aluminium or plastic. Jati's extending teak starts at £450, Jo Alexander's Henley is £795, and a Barlow Tyrie Aura is £2,331 at GardenSite. None of that weight, parasol hole or year-round line is included in the £166 price. Blending the figures makes the aluminium table look like a cheap teak table, which it is not.
Can a teak extending table stay out all year?
Only if the seller of that model says so, and you are quoting their page. Jati's Oxburgh page says that table can remain outdoors. That sentence does not transfer to the amazon.co.uk aluminium tables. Indian Ocean's silver patina in about three months is what left outside looks like on their teak, and it is expected. Read the care notes for the table you pay for, because £450 and £2,331 are not the same aftercare.
Can the amazon.co.uk tables stay out all year?
The listings do not prove it. Outsunny says weather resistant, JUMMICO's title says weatherproof, and neither cites a standard. Stain resistant is No on both. One TIMBER RIDGE reviewer worried the concertina would jam if left outside. That table is a camping design with a bag, not a year-round patio claim. BS EN 581-3:2026 does not test weathering, so a star rating cannot fill the gap.
