Fountain buying guide

Updated: 22 October 2026

You have one socket, or none, and amazon.co.uk is showing a spinning ball for the sideboard next to a disc that only moves if the bird bath is already in the sun. A fountain buying guide has to split those jobs before a low price looks like a bargain. On this shelf the same word covers an indoor tabletop, one freestanding ornament, and a pump you drop into a bowl you already own. The [fountain comparison](/hub/garden-decor/fountain) holds the nine listings and the scores. Captured prices on 20 October 2026 run from about £8.59 to £88.99. Peter F. read those listings. Three roles on one shelf

A tabletop is a room object with its own reservoir. Valiant, BTGGG, and Creative Touch are about 20 to 25 cm high, and litres are not printed. Creative Touch is USB. The other two expect mains, and only one names the plug. If you wanted a metre of waterfall, you are not in this group. Teamson Home is the freestanding piece: 98 cm, 9 litres, 7 W at 450 litres per hour, polyresin at £88.99. A floating solar pump is not that ornament. The discs are for a bath or barrel you already own. They do not bring a bowl. How they behave after dark is on solar fountain or mains.

Power has to match the site

Mains runs after dark if the socket is live and the pump stays covered. Only the Teamson prints watts, 7 W. USB is a third plug, not a battery. Creative Touch’s lead is about 1.5 m. Panel-only solar stops when the light drops. AISITIN B08S2R6S91 and both SZMP discs do not state a battery. A review that mentions battery life does not create a cell. Yzert states 2000 mAh and 4 to 6 hours after a full charge. AISITIN B083BRWQQY states 1500 mAh and 2.0 to 2.5 hours. Those are the only printed cells. Shade still needs a plug, because the panel has to see light. The first hour is on how to set up a fountain.

Plug, bowl, and the review line

Valiant B0BHF1MCQ8 is the only bullet that states a UKCA cable and a UK 3-pin. BTGGG says a standard electrical outlet and does not name BS 1363. One UK text says that plug gets hot and has no fuse. Creative Touch is USB. Teamson’s adapter will not sit under a closed outdoor socket lid, in a UK review. A new circuit is an electrician’s job under Part P. An existing socket is not that notification. Outdoor mains still wants 30 mA RCD protection. A solar jet can empty a shallow bath in a breeze. The £8.59 AISITIN is 3.7 from 21,946, a warning rather than a bargain. The tabletops are all 4.3, from 59, 253, and 651.

If this, then that

Indoors, with a plug the listing names, start with the UK 3-pin tabletop and read the thinner review base. With USB already to hand, the larger sample is the USB tabletop, and no fused 3-pin is in the carton. A metre-high piece means the Teamson, after you check the transformer against the socket lid. A sunny bird bath means a pump, not an ornament. Cat and dog drinking fountains are not in this set. Where a top pick applies is on the best fountain page.

Common questions

Is a floating solar pump the same thing as a garden fountain?
No. On this shelf an ornament is either a small tabletop with its own reservoir or the one Teamson waterfall at 98 cm. A floating solar pump is a disc, or a panel and a small pump, that you put into water you already have. It does not include the bath. If the title says bird bath and the dimensions are about 15 to 18 cm across, you are buying the spray, not the bowl.
Which power works in a room, in shade, or only in sun?
A room wants mains or USB. Shade on a patio still wants a plug if you need water after the light drops, because a solar panel does not charge in deep shade. Full sun on a bath you own is the panel-only case. A stated battery, 2000 mAh on the Yzert or 1500 mAh on one AISITIN, is a buffer after charge, not a way to hide the panel indoors. Evening running without a plug is not what the panel-only bullets promise.
Does the listing name a UK 3-pin, USB, or only a standard outlet?
Read the bullet, not the photo of a cable. Valiant states a UK 3-pin and a UKCA cable. Creative Touch states USB and about 1.5 m. BTGGG says a standard electrical outlet and does not name a UK 3-pin. Teamson includes a mains adapter, and one UK text says that adapter is a transformer block. If the words are missing, do not assume a fused BS 1363 plug is in the box.
What does a large review count with a modest score mean?
It means many people have bought it and the average is only middling. The AISITIN at £8.59 is 3.7 from 21,946. That is more evidence than a 4.5 from a dozen ratings, and the evidence points to stops in cloud, a jet that overshoots, and pumps that quit within weeks or months. A high count does not repair a 3.7. It makes the 3.7 harder to dismiss as a handful of unlucky orders.
When is a new outdoor socket an electrician’s job?
When you need a new circuit or a new outdoor point, that work is notifiable under Part P and belongs to an electrician. Plugging a fountain into a socket that is already there is not the same job. Outdoor mains still wants 30 mA RCD protection, and you unplug before you put your hands in the water. Do not cut the cable so a transformer plug will fit under a lid.
