Einhell chainsaw for pruning

Updated: 22 October 2026

Pruning in a UK garden is mostly limbs and shrubs at ground level, or from a stable stance, not bucking stove-length logs across a felled trunk. You need a bar short enough to steer in tight growth, oil before the motor runs, and two hands on the handles even when the saw looks small on amazon.co.uk. This page compares the short listings in the [Einhell chainsaw comparison](/hub/forestry-tools/einhell-chainsaw) and says when a rear-handle GE-LC is enough. Peter F. used the saved UK listings. What counts as pruning

Pruning here means branches you can reach with both feet on the ground, the wood supported, and the bar below chest height. HSE’s tree-work guidance treats cuts above chest height, and work off the ground, as professional territory. A high score does not make the GP-LC 36/40 the right shrub tool. Einhell’s UK accessories pages describe roughly 15–20 cm bars as the pruning band. In this set that is the GE-PS kit’s 12.5 cm cut and the FORTEXXA 18/20, with a 20 cm bar line in the bullet, not the 33 cm or 38 cm Twin-Pack cuts.

GE-PS 18/15 kit

The GE-PS 18/15 kit at £155.38 lists a brushless body with a 12.5 cm cutting length, up to 4.8 m/s, a 2.5 Ah pack, charger, spare chain, bag, oil applicator, and a stored hex key, at 1.59 kg. Bar swaps are described as tool-free. Retensioning uses the hex key, not the tool-free screw on a GE-LC. You oil with the applicator, not an automatic tank. Stars read 4.7 from 136 ratings, yet none of the fifty sampled review texts are marked United Kingdom. It is the top pick for a complete pruning kit, not because it outcuts a 35 cm saw on logs. Skip it if you already own packs and only want a bare mini saw, or if firewood is the task.

FORTEXXA 18/20

The FORTEXXA 18/20 bare at £95.76 is a brushless 18 V body at 2.61 kg, with an Oregon bar and chain named, and no battery, charger, or oil. The title prints 20 cm and 10 inch together. UK reviewers say it felt smaller than the inch wording, and they praise it on shrubs, bamboo, willow, and eucalyptus. Einhell’s page for the top-handle FORTEXXA 18/20 TH says such saws may only be used by fully trained tree-care personnel. The amazon card does not repeat that sentence. Use two hands, keep cuts low, and read the manual. Skip it if you expected a 10 inch bar from the title, or if you need a pack in the same delivery.

When a rear-handle 25 cm saw is enough

The GE-LC 18/25 Solo or kit gives a rear handle, tool-free tension, about 4.5 m/s on the brushed models, and a cutting length near 23 cm on the kit bullet against a 25 cm title. UK reviewers use it on thicker branches if they accept a slower pace than petrol. In dense shrubs, the longer nose catches twigs you did not see. Choose the rear handle when branches are past the GE-PS reach and you already own Power X-Change packs. Choose the short listings when the material stays small. Log buyers should use the best Einhell chainsaw page. Call a professional when the branch is above chest height.

Oil, stars, and attachments

Buy bar and chain oil for the tank or the applicator. HSE INDG317 warns against waste engine oil even on domestic work. Oil, direction, and tension are on the how to use an Einhell chainsaw page. A pole-pruner attachment is not in this comparison. Sorting by stars crowns the GE-PS kit or a FORTEXXA 4.6 listing over a saw that simply has a longer bar. Read centimetres, whether a battery is in the box, and whether reviews are UK-marked.

Common questions

Is the FORTEXXA 18/20 a 10 inch saw?
The title says 10 inch and 20 cm together. Twenty centimetres is not ten inches. Trust the centimetre bullet, and measure if the job is borderline.
Can I prune with one hand?
No. Use two hands, stay on the ground for the cuts described here, and treat top-handle designs as requiring trained use. Einhell’s manufacturer warning on the TH page says that.
Does the GE-PS oil itself?
It includes an oil applicator. That is not the same as automatic tank lubrication on a GE-LC. Read the listing line before you assume a filled tank.
Is the pruning kit’s 4.7 rating from UK buyers?
Not in the fifty-review sample, which has zero UK-marked texts for that ASIN. The star count is on the UK listing. The geography of the written reviews is not.
Will a 12.5 cm saw cut firewood?
It is the wrong tool for stove-length rounds. Use a longer rear-handle saw, or a Twin-Pack saw from the main table, if logs are the job.
Do I need the GP-LC 36/40 for branches?
Not for typical branch pruning. That saw is for large garden timber when you already run Twin-Pack and accept a long bar.
What about the Einhell pole attachment?
It is outside this product set. Compare dedicated pole tools separately if height is the problem. Do not assume this table includes that attachment.
