Vinyl flooring buying guide: three products, one name

Updated: 16.10.2026

You are measuring a tired room and deciding whether an amazon.co.uk vinyl pack is the floor to buy. A vinyl flooring buying guide has to separate three products that share one name: peel-and-stick film, glue-down luxury vinyl tile with a wear layer, and rigid click vinyl around 4–6 mm. The twelve packs in the [vinyl floor comparison](/hub/flooring/vinyl-floor) are peel-and-stick only. Products Compared read the listings on 15 October 2026 and did not lay a floor. None of them prints a wear-layer thickness, and none prints an ISO 10874 class. Those classes describe intensity of use, and these listings do not state one.

Three products share the name vinyl

Expert Reviews treats self-adhesive tiles as a separate, less hard-wearing product from LVT. Every pack here is peel-and-stick, as planks, squares, or a roll. A Trade Point rustic-oak stick-down plank, outside this set, states 1.8 mm total and a 0.08 mm wear layer, sold for very light traffic and bedrooms. That 0.08 mm is not a measurement of these ASINs. A named wear layer and a use class mean specified LVT or click vinyl.

Total thickness is not the wear layer

Inside this comparison the number you can check is total thickness. The thin group is about 0.6 mm, and NUFLR reviewers compared that film with tissue paper. The thicker group is FLOREXP and EasyFloor at 2 mm, and ATOPOSE at 1.5 mm. Auxua and SHINEOFI contradict themselves on thickness, and FloorPops states none. A thicker total still falls short of a hard-wearing domestic floor. B&Q’s 2 mm self-adhesive planks state a 0.07 mm wear layer and light duty. JT Flooring’s 0.55 mm kitchen figure is for glue-down LVT, outside this set. A 2 mm sticker remains a light refresh.

Price the square metre, then add waste

Shelf prices run from £14.00 to £52.99, and the pack price will mislead you. On stated coverage the rate runs from about £7.17 per square metre for FLOREXP’s 5.02 m² at £35.99 to about £17.21 for auxua’s 0.9 m² at £15.49. FloorPops is £14.00 for about 0.93 m², which is about £15.07 per square metre. The cheap pack is one of the dearer floors once you price the area.

The floor underneath decides the result

The pack works when the floor will take the glue. These listings ask for a smooth, flat, dry surface, and they do not include an underlay. BS 8203, as cited in UK flooring guidance, wants a subfloor that is clean and permanently dry, and flat to SR1: less than 3 mm under a 2 m straightedge. NUFLR reviews say the 0.6 mm sheet shows every bump. Leave old vinyl tiles unsanded. Health and Safety Executive guidance is to avoid grinding tiles that might contain asbestos. If the floor might be a pre-2000 thermoplastic tile, get it checked before you scrape or level it. Spray adhesive can patch a weak bond on a clean floor. It will not rescue dust or a damp screed.

When this set is the wrong buy

Leave these packs when you need a declared wear layer, a slip value, a wet-room drain, or a separating floor that has to meet sound rules in a flat. A heavy hallway, a stair, and a shower that holds water are the usual reasons. Homebuilding notes that the adhesive is a poor bet on stair treads. None of these listings is a stair product, and retailer lifespan tables were not measured on these ASINs. If you still want stick-down on a smooth, dry, lightly used room, use the comparison for thickness, coverage, and review count. Boards fail in a different place, which is the point of vinyl vs laminate flooring.

Common questions

Is peel-and-stick the same as LVT?
Peel-and-stick here is a thin film, about 0.6–2.0 mm total, with no wear layer printed. Glue-down LVT carries a separate wear layer and a use class. Click vinyl is a rigid board, often about 4–6 mm, that locks rather than sticks. Expert Reviews keeps self-adhesive tiles apart from LVT. If the listing only says vinyl, read the thickness and whether a wear layer is stated before you compare the price.
What thickness should I buy?
For a light refresh on a flat floor, the packs that state 1.5–2.0 mm give you more sheet than the 0.6 mm films reviewers call thin. Total thickness is still the whole product. B&Q’s 2 mm self-adhesive plank states a 0.07 mm wear layer and light duty. If you want a wear layer around the 0.55 mm figure JT Flooring uses for kitchens and halls, you are outside these twelve listings.
How much extra coverage do I need?
Allow about 10% for a simple rectangle, and more for a toilet, a doorway, or a patterned border. A 5 m² room with a straight lay is closer to 5.5 m² of material. EasyFloor’s 5 m² box is in that range, while auxua’s 0.9 m² roll is a small patch. Buy the spare before you peel the first piece, because a second delivery may not match the colour.
Can I lay this over tiles or laminate?
You can when the old surface is smooth, flat, dry, and firmly stuck. FLOREXP reviews describe lays over old laminate, lino, and concrete. Which? saw a stick tile hold on flat concrete and lift on indented vinyl until extra glue was used. Hollows, loose boards, and a damp screed stay unsuitable. Do not sand a tile that might contain asbestos.
Does a 4-star score mean it will last?
It means buyers on amazon.co.uk scored the listing around that level. NUFLR’s 3.9 from 1,577 is a large file about a thin sheet. SHINEOFI’s 5.0 from one review cannot show what fails. Read the count beside the stars, then the thickness and whether reviewers added glue. No lifespan in years is given here, because these packs were not tested for one.
