Best artificial grass

Updated: October 2026

You want one name for a small patio and one for a cheaper run, and you do not want the highest star rating to win by accident. Best artificial grass, on this page, means the top pick and the best value inside one amazon.co.uk set, with a reason to skip each. It is not a national league table. Trade catalogues often quote about £22 to £45 a square metre for their own 30 to 45 mm ranges. This page uses the listings in our [artificial turf comparison](/hub/flooring/artificial-turf). We read those pages and the review notes on them. We did not lay a trial lawn.

What best means in this set

Stars compare the reviews a listing has collected, and they do not compare the same job. GardenKraft is 4.5 from 1,912 reviews at 15 mm. Ark Mat Cotford is 4.2 from 1,648 reviews at 35 mm, with a stitch rate printed on the page. A short strip can outscore a thicker piece because more people bought the strip, not because 15 mm is a better lawn. The criterion for the top pick is a stated pile you can check, a clear area, and a specification the listing publishes. Price per square metre is the criterion for the best value, and it only counts when the area is not in dispute. Pile, stitches and the two price bands are on the artificial grass buying guide.

Top pick

The top pick is the Ark Mat Cotford piece, 1 m by 2 m, at about £21.95. The pile is 35 mm. The listing publishes 14,700 stitches per square metre, a 6,500 dtex yarn and a water-permeable backing at 1,915 g/m2 including the backing, and it says no sand infill is required. Across that shared 4.2 from 1,648 reviews, people describe a dense backing, a terrace that looked less like plastic once the grass was down, and cuts that made the joins hard to see. About £10.98 a square metre is not the cheapest arithmetic in the set. It is the piece with the only published stitch rate. Some pieces look sparse, shed loose blades, and need time laid flat before the pile stands up. Delivery was slow for some buyers. Check the current price on the Cotford 1 m by 2 m listing before you order.

Best value

The best value is the WADOODI 1 m by 4 m piece at about £30.99. The selected variant is stated as 30 mm, so the area is 4 square metres and the arithmetic is about £7.75 a square metre. The rating is 4.4 from 108 reviews. People have used it as a pond-to-fence border, a front path and a puppy toilet, and several say a brush lifts the pile. Beside Cotford’s 2 square metres at about £21.95, you are trading a published stitch rate for area. The yarn line does not agree with itself. The bullets say UV-resistant polyethylene and polypropylene on a rubber backing with drainage holes. The material field says polyvinyl chloride. The title also says 20 mm/30 mm, so you rely on the selected 30 mm variant and on what arrives. There is no stitch rate to put next to Cotford’s 14,700. Read the WADOODI listing before you assume the yarn.

What not to crown

GardenKraft is the roll people mean when they sort by stars: 4 m by 1 m, 15 mm, about £24.99, about £6.25 a square metre. Reviewers cut it for dog strips, catios and terraces, and some liked a brown undertone. It is a sensible short strip and the wrong top pick if you wanted a 35 mm lawn. The stars are the largest sample in the set, and they still describe a different product. Turosur, at about £62.99 and 3.8 from 33 reviews, stays off any ranking because the title says 2 m by 3 m and a bullet says 1 m by 10 m. A price per square metre would be a guess. The potty pads at about £18.99 are a tray, not a lawn, when the dog lives in a flat.

Which role to buy

Take Cotford when a small terrace needs 35 mm and a stitch rate you can read. Leave it when you need 4 to 10 square metres at a lower price per square metre. Take WADOODI when that 4 square metre price is the point and you can live with a yarn line that disagrees with itself. A flat toilet is a pad, not either of these rolls. If you are still unsure you want synthetic grass at all, that choice can end with keeping the lawn.

Common questions

Is the 1 m Cotford the same grass as the 2 m piece?
The specification matches: 35 mm, 14,700 stitches per square metre, and no sand infill required. The 1 m listing is about £14.95. The two listings share 4.2 from 1,648 and overlapping review text, so you should not add the counts and call it 3,000 reviews. Per square metre the smaller piece costs more, which is fine when you truly only need one square metre.
Who should skip both and buy a pad?
If the dog lives in a flat and the job is a toilet on a tray, the two-pad pack at about £18.99 is the relevant product. Each pad is about 46 by 58 cm. It will not cover a patio, and some dogs refuse it or chew it. That is a different purchase from either the top pick or the best value.
What should you do if you need 10 square metres?
Look at tonchean at about £78.89 and MYOYAY at about £79.99, both about £8 a square metre over a stated 10 square metres. tonchean states about 30 mm and has bald-patch reviews. MYOYAY does not state a pile height in the bullets. Neither replaces the top pick if you wanted a published stitch rate on a small patio. WADOODI remains the best value only at 4 square metres.
Do flame-retardant claims decide the rank?
No. Several listings say the material is flame retardant, lead free or UV resistant, and the pages we read do not include a certificate. Those words are not treated as test results. They do not decide the top pick or the best value, and they should not be repeated as if this comparison had burned or faded a sample.
Why can two GardenKraft boxes fail to match?
Colour is a batch. Reviewers found two boxes that matched an existing lawn and two boxes that did not match each other. A high star line does not settle the shade of the next carton. If you are joining two pieces, check them in daylight before you fix the edges.
What is wrong with the WADOODI drainage for a dog?
One dog owner thought the backing looked sprayed on and the holes sparse. Other buyers felt the pile was shorter than the claim once it was unrolled. The 4.4 from 108 reviews still includes a puppy-toilet use. Sparse holes are a reason to look at the parcel, not a reason to treat the pet line as a drainage test.
