Waterproof skirting board for a bathroom or kitchen

Updated: 21 October 2026

You are edging a bath, a sink or a utility, and the amazon.co.uk title says waterproof. A plastic face can throw off a splash and still hide a wet wall behind it. The strip is not a damp-proof course, and it is not tanking. Peter F. did not flood a test wall. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. What waterproof means on these listings

Approved Document C, requirement C2, says walls and floors must resist ground moisture, rain, condensation and spills. No sentence in that document says a peel-and-stick fillet meets the duty. VCANIVR’s narrow roll claims protection from dust, moisture and insects, and the captured file has no separate waterproof answer. KMDZDZGS puts waterproof in the title and mentions waterproof nano glue. The wide VCANIVR pair talks about dust, moisture and pests. JSIWOTH’s bullet is the most careful: dust, light splashes and debris, not standing water. If the only air path under a suspended timber floor runs along this joint, do not tape it shut.

Bath, sink and utility

Several listings name the rooms, and the naming is not a test. The wide VCANIVR bullets list wall-to-bathtub, wall-to-sink and wall-to-worktop. One review used the strip at the base of a tub. Another, in that shared 241-count pool, would not use it in a bathroom. Hexizexi’s UK reviews include a loo and a gap under a bath panel. JSIWOTH allows a tub on tile, sealed wood or a painted wall with a stable finish, and the box includes an adhesive promoter. If the plaster is soft when you press it, stop.

Rotten boards and hidden damp

One Hexizexi review says the roll covered rotten skirting in a loo after a damp problem. The review does not say the damp was found or dried. Covering the damage hides the tide mark. A plastic face over wet timber holds the moisture against the wood. Soft plaster, a musty smell, or a brown line are reasons to find the leak before you buy a roll. Call a professional for blown plaster, rotten timber, a tide mark, a wet room, or a suspended timber floor whose air bricks you cannot find.

When to leave the tape in the packet

Standard MDF swells when it stays wet. Moisture-resistant MDF is still not waterproof. Skirting 4 U says so about their own MR board, and they point wet rooms towards uPVC or tile. A PVC face in this set is more tolerant of a splash than bare MDF, and it is still a film over the wall. A wet room wants a tanked substrate and a finish made for that. Leave the packet closed when you hoped waterproof would deal with a leak, when the board is already soft, or when the joint ventilates a timber ground floor. In a wet room, tile or a proper uPVC board is the exit.

Common questions

Can I use this tape in a bathroom at all?
Yes, as a wipe-clean edge on a sound, dry surface. Listings in this set name bathrooms, baths and sinks, and some UK reviews describe a loo, a bath panel and a bathroom board. One reviewer of the wide VCANIVR roll would not use it in a bathroom, so the claim is not unanimous. Use it where you can wipe the face. Do not use it to finish a wall that is already damp.
Will it stop water getting behind the bath?
No. A fillet on the room side does not reseal the joint behind the panel, and it does not satisfy Approved Document C. Water that is already running down the back of the bath will stay there, now with a strip hiding the stain. Sort the bath seal and the panel first. The tape can tidy the visible edge after that, if the face you stick to is dry.
Is it better than MDF next to a shower?
The plastic face tolerates a splash better than standard MDF, which swells, and better than moisture-resistant MDF, which still is not waterproof. It is not better than a tanked wall and tile, or a uPVC board made for a wet room. Next to a shower that wets the floor, leave the tape in the packet. Next to a basin you wipe down, the tape is a cosmetic edge, with the leak still your problem if one starts.
Can I stick it over skirting that has already rotted?
You can hide it, and that is what one loo review did. Hiding rotten timber does not dry it. If the board is soft, crumbly or stained with a tide mark, take it off and find the water. Fitting over the top gives mould a covered gap and makes the next inspection harder. The roll is a cover, not a cure.
Does waterproof on the title mean the wall is tanked?
No. Tanking is a layer in the wall or floor build-up. The titles here describe the strip, and the more careful bullets talk about splashes, dust and a wipe-clean face. KMDZDZGS’s nano-glue line and INMOZATA’s waterproof PVC line are listing claims. They are not a certificate, and they are not requirement C2.
Should a wet room use tile or uPVC board instead?
Yes. A wet room needs a moisture-resistant substrate and an upstand or tanking system, then a finish that is meant to be wetted. Skirting 4 U sends that job to uPVC or tile rather than to their MR MDF. A peel-and-stick Amazon fillet is neither of those systems. Use the tape only where the wetting is a splash you wipe away.
