Outdoor gas fireplace buying guide

Updated: 22 October 2026

Patio photos all show a clean propane flame, and amazon.co.uk mixes tabletop pans, portable bowls and fire pit tables under one search. This outdoor gas fireplace buying guide puts form, heat class and cylinder language ahead of any star line. The nine prices stay on the [outdoor gas fireplace comparison](/hub/fireplaces-and-stoves/outdoor-gas-fireplace). You leave with a shortlist shape, not a named winner. Listings and public UK sources only, not a laboratory heat test. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

Start with the form

The first fork is not brand and not BTU. A pan needs a table you own. A fire pit table is the furniture. A bowl is what you can carry. Onlyfire pans here run from a low 28-inch rectangle to pans about 31–37 cm high, at about £99.99 to £179.99. The Outsunny table is 27 kg with a lid and a 5 kg bay. The FansaFurn table is about 30.9 kg and about £464.34. The Outland bowl is 19 inches, with a cover and carry kit, at about £269.06. Host meals on a table you like, and shortlist a pan. Want flame and table in one piece, and shortlist a fire pit table. Need to lift it into a car alone, and the bowl is the form. The pan-versus-table page is tabletop gas fire pit or fire pit table.

Heat claim versus the job

Seller heat claims run from 3.2 kW on the cheapest 18-inch pan to about 58,000 BTU on the Outland bowl. At roughly 3,412 BTU/h per kW, the high end is about 12–17 kW, still not whole-garden heat. Treat about 3–7 kW as table ambience when people sit close. Treat 40,000–58,000 BTU as a stronger seating-circle flame, still a seller figure, not a measured radius. A dining pair needs a pan that fits the top, not the loudest BTU line. A larger circle on a fire pit table may justify a 50,000 BTU claim, though UK reviews on the Outsunny table still note flame noise in light wind. Do not invent a market average from nine ASINs. To rank evidence rather than heat class, use best outdoor gas fireplace.

Cylinder bay and what is in the box

Every listing that addresses the tank says the cylinder is not included. Look for hose length, a named regulator, media, a wind guard, a cover, and on tables a lid and a bay. Outsunny names a 5 kg bay and a pre-assembled hose. Some Onlyfire pans put glass on two sides only, which UK reviews say leaves a cross-wind path. The Outland bowl includes a cover and a 10 ft hose, but it speaks a 20 lb cylinder and prints 250 PSI as max supply pressure. That is not a UK clip-on at a nominal 37 mbar, the figure Liquid Gas UK uses for propane. If the bullet only says 20 lb, do not assume it matches the green bottle in the shed. That check is UK propane for an outdoor gas fireplace.

Wind, shut-down and when to compare models

Use the flame outdoors in free air. Liquid Gas UK’s patio-heater sheet says not in an enclosed space, tent or marquee, and not close to umbrellas unless the manual allows. NHS advice on carbon monoxide is blunt about barbecues and camping stoves indoors or in a tent. Treat a propane fire pit the same way. Turn the cylinder off first, then the appliance controls, following GOV.UK’s outdoor sequence. Stop if the gas feed is intermittent. That is a connector problem, not a cue for another match. When form, heat class and the box list are clear, open the main comparison and read the stars with the caveats on duplicated or non-UK review text.

Common questions

Pan, bowl or fire pit table first?
Choose the job before the brand. A pan sits on a table you already own. A fire pit table is the furniture, usually with a lid and a heavier build, about 27–31 kg in this set. A bowl is the portable centrepiece you can carry. Fix that fork, then compare heat and fittings inside one form. Shelf prices for the pans here run from about £99.99 to about £179.99.
How much heat do I need for a dining table versus a seating circle?
In this capture, about 3–7 kW is table ambience when people sit close. Claims around 40,000–58,000 BTU are a stronger patio flame for a seating circle, roughly 12–17 kW at about 3,412 BTU/h per kW, and still not whole-garden heat. All figures are seller claims, not a lab test of radius. Do not read BTU as central heating.
Does the hose fit UK patio gas?
Only if the regulator matches your cylinder valve at the pressure the appliance expects, typically a nominal 37 mbar for propane in Liquid Gas UK guidance. A US 20 lb tank sentence is not automatically a UK 27 mm patio-gas clip-on. 250 PSI on the Outland listing is a maximum supply figure, not that operating setting. Check before first light.
What is in the box besides the burner?
Expect some mix of hose, regulator, lava rock or glass media, wind guard, cover and, on tables, a lid. The cylinder is not included on the listings that say so. The Outsunny row names a 5 kg bay and a pre-assembled hose. Several pans omit a cover. Read the components line, not the hero image.
Can I use it under a gazebo?
Not in an enclosed gazebo, tent or marquee. Keep free air around the flame and follow the manual on clearance to fabrics and umbrellas. NHS advice on carbon monoxide covers barbecues and camping stoves indoors or in a tent. Carbon monoxide risk rises when combustion products cannot clear. A patio flame is not a room heater.
How heavy is a fire pit table to move?
In this set the Outsunny table is about 27 kg and the FansaFurn about 30.9 kg. Plan two people or a trolley. Tabletop pans in the folder are closer to 8–12 kg. A balcony limit is a reason to stay with a pan.
