Best fire hose

Updated: October 2026

You have three amazon.co.uk listings left in this set, and you want the best fire hose for one job, not a trophy for the highest star line. Two are white 2 inch DAMBAT layflat. One is a red Firechief hose listed as 25 mm × 30 m. The [fire hose comparison](/hub/fire-protection/fire-hose) is the table with the shelf prices. Peter F. used these listings on 20 October 2026, with no lab test. A purchase through our links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Best for a 25 mm reel spare

If the hose you are replacing is about 25 mm by 30 m on a semi-rigid reel, the only kept listing with that shape is the Firechief FH25/30, ASIN B074P4HNQP, at about £123. The bullet says approved to BSEN696. The product description on amazon.co.uk also says EN 694. This page does not treat them as one approval. The listing bullets give −20 °C to 60 °C, 30 m and an outside diameter of 25 mm. They do not state a working pressure and they do not name a coupling. Outside diameter is not the bore. The FH25/30 is the top pick when your job is that reel spare and you accept the standard clash, the missing coupling and the missing pressure. Matching a reel you already own is on replacement hose for a fire hose reel.

The two white layflat hoses

The other two listings are general layflat, and they are the wrong object for that 25 mm reel. B09P5DTGVL is DAMBAT 2 inch × 30 m at about £49.95. The title and the length field agree on 30 m. Maximum pressure is 116 psi. No hose standard is named, so the hydrant line stays a seller's use list. B09P5FQXL4 is the same 2 inch layflat at about £45.95. The title says 20 m. The item length field says 30 m. Where length matters, this is the listing to leave. Between them, B09P5DTGVL is the best value in this set for general 2 inch layflat, because you can see the length. It is not the best value if the job is a reel.

What best cannot mean here

A 5.0 score does not settle this set. None of the files contains UK review text you could quote as someone in Britain describing a hydrant, a reel or a pump. The single French review on the Firechief file stays out of the decision. Thin stars are a reason to read the printed bore, length, standard and coupling. The order of those checks sits on the fire hose buying guide. Best, on this page, means the listing whose printed job matches yours, with the gaps left visible.

When to leave all three

Leave all three when you need a BS 6391 assembly with BS 336 couplings in 45 mm or 70 mm, when the reel is 19 mm or 33 mm, or when the workplace has no hose-reel assessment and you were about to buy a reel because a title looked official. If the fire is the problem in front of you today, the next call is 999, not a better ASIN.

Common questions

Which of these three is the one for a hose reel?
The Firechief FH25/30, B074P4HNQP, at about £123 is the only kept listing shaped like a 25 mm × 30 m reel hose. The bullet says BSEN696 and the description says EN 694, so confirm that wording against the hose you are removing. The listing names no coupling and no working pressure. The two DAMBAT hoses are 2 inch layflat. They belong on a pump or a dewatering job, not on a semi-rigid reel.
Why is the Firechief hose about £123 when trade sites are cheaper?
About £123 is the amazon.co.uk price in this comparison. UK trade pages for the same FH25/30 sit lower, about £78 to £115 including VAT as a rule of thumb from those shops, not as a second price in this table. Those pages also say EN 694 and add a working pressure the amazon.co.uk bullets do not state. Compare like for like, then decide whether the clash and the missing coupling are acceptable on the page you are actually buying from.
Are the white 2 inch hoses fire-service layflat?
They are layflat with a woven jacket and an EPDM liner, sold with quick-release ends at 116 psi. They do not name BS 6391, EN 14540 or BS 336. Two inch is about 51 mm, which is neither the 45 mm nor the 70 mm delivery hose London Fire Brigade describes. Use them as general layflat at the size printed. A named fire-service assembly looks different on the page: standard, millimetre bore, working pressure and a BS 336 coupling.
Does 5.0 from two or three ratings make a top pick?
No. The Firechief file is 5.0 from 2 ratings and one French review. The 30 m DAMBAT is 5.0 from 3 ratings and no review text. That is too thin to describe UK use. The top pick in this set is the FH25/30 only when the job is a 25 mm reel spare and you accept the gaps above. Stars do not repair a missing coupling.
What is wrong with the about £45.95 listing?
B09P5FQXL4 says 20 m in the title and 30 m in the item length field, and it lists a wall thickness of 1 inch. The pressure, 116 psi, and the quick-release ends match the about £49.95 DAMBAT, which states 30 m in both places. Where you need to know the length before delivery, the about £45.95 page is the one to skip. The 3.0 from 1 rating adds no UK review text.
Can I treat BSEN696 and EN 694 as the same line?
Keep them apart. The amazon.co.uk bullet on B074P4HNQP says approved to BSEN696. The description on that page, and UK trade pages for the FH25/30, say EN 694. This comparison does not collapse those into one approval. If your old hose is marked EN 694, show both strings to the person who will fit the spare and let them decide whether the listing is the same hose.
