Indoor wall filler buying guide

Updated: October 2026

An indoor wall filler buying guide has one job before price: match the hole to a stated depth, to whether the joint moves, and to the indoors-only wording. The [indoor wall filler comparison](/hub/fillers-adhesives-and-sprays/wall-filler-indoor) lists the twelve captured packs, their GBP prices, and their review counts. This page is the if-then. It does not rank those ASINs. A couple of millimetres belongs on [filler for hairline cracks](/hub/fillers-adhesives-and-sprays/wall-filler-indoor/sub/wall-filler-indoor-hairline-cracks). Prices were written up on 16 October 2026. Nothing here is a lab test.

Match the depth before the brand

Depth comes first. Polycell Fine Surface is for indoors and cracks up to 2 mm, and that tube is not in the twelve listings. Palace Fine Surface, which is, says layers no more than 3 mm. A generic rule of about 5 mm fights those pages. Sika's 600 g listing states 9 mm deep and 25 mm wide. Palace's 1 kg tub says layers no thicker than 10 mm. Polycell's multi-purpose page says further layers above 10 mm. Deep Gap is published at 20 mm and is drillable. Advanced is published at 50 mm and is not for drilling. Neither is priced here.

Movement, indoors, and what you do after it sets

A rigid fine filler in a skirting gap will crack again if the timber moves. Polycell Flexible Gap is quoted at up to 5 mm wide and 12 mm deep, with a recoat of 24 hours. A separate how-to mentions 20 mm wide. This guide does not use 20 mm as the limit, and Flexible Gap was not one of the twelve ASINs. Fine Surface, Quick Drying, and Deep Gap say indoors only. Sika allows interior and exterior if an outdoor fix is sealed with oil-based paint. Palace's 1 kg tub is not for exposed exteriors. The Decex indoors and outdoors line is a seller bullet. Screw into a filler only when that product says it will take a screw.

What this amazon.co.uk set actually contains

The filler-shaped packs are a Polycell 330 g tube, a Sika 600 g tub, two Palace tubs, a Sinto 5 kg tub, a Decex kit, and a Mo's kit whose maker is not named. A 4.7 from 13 reviews is not a stronger result than 4.6 from 14,595. SOL and FPNNZ are bridges you still fill over. Plugdoh is for a loose wall plug. Tiles and vinyl trim peel and stick. Sinto's zero-shrinkage bullet is not a finding here. No British Standard and no Which? result were in the notes.

If-then before you add to basket

A hairline stays with a fine filler. An ordinary screw hole is the 330 g Polycell tube, the one with the large review file. A crack near 9 mm by 25 mm is Sika. Layers up to 10 mm in a larger tub are Palace 1 kg. Open plasterboard needs mesh. A pulled plug needs the orange grip compound. A moving frame needs Flexible Gap, not a rigid paste. Common questions

Do I need fine filler or multi-purpose filler for a screw hole?
A shallow nick or a hairline wants a fine filler. Palace's captured tub is capped at 3 mm layers, and Polycell Fine Surface is published at 2 mm. A normal screw hole in sound plaster is everyday ready-mixed paste, inside that product's layer limit.
What depth can I fill in one pass?
Use the number on that product, not a single rule for every tub. In this set the written figures include 3 mm layers for Palace fine, 9 mm deep and 25 mm wide for Sika, 10 mm layers for Palace 1 kg, and a seller line of 1 cm for Sinto. Polycell's multi-purpose page says to layer above 10 mm.
Can I use a rigid filler on a skirting or frame gap?
Not if the joint moves. A rigid paste cracks again when timber shifts. Polycell's Flexible Gap page is up to 5 mm wide and 12 mm deep, with a 24-hour recoat. This guide does not treat 20 mm as the limit, and that product was not in the twelve listings.
Which of these tubs say indoors only?
Palace fine is worded for interior surfaces. Palace 1 kg says it is not for exposed exteriors or continuous immersion. Sika allows interior and exterior if you seal an outdoor fix with oil-based paint. The Decex kit's indoors and outdoors line is a seller bullet. Polycell Fine Surface, Quick Drying, and Deep Gap say indoors only on the manufacturer pages, and those three were not captured as ASINs here.
Can I drill or screw into the fill?
Only when that product says the fill will take a fixing. Polycell Deep Gap is the published drillable filler, at 20 mm, and it is not in this set. Polycell Advanced, at 50 mm, says it is not for drilling, and it is not priced here either. The Decex kit's drillable line is the seller's wording for that kit. Do not move a curtain-pole screw into a fine filler or into a lightweight fill that forbids drilling.
Does a higher star rating mean a better filler?
No. Read the count beside the stars. Polycell 330 g is 4.6 from 14,595 reviews. A mesh kit at 4.7 from 13 reviews is a smaller sample, and it is not the paste. Match depth and movement first.
When should I stop and call someone?
Call a plasterer or an electrician when plaster is loose over a wide area, a stain keeps coming back, or the damage is next to wiring you cannot isolate. These notes do not document asbestos or lead. If that is a live question, stop rather than sanding through it.
