Two part adhesive: which chemistry to buy

Updated: 23 October 2026

You have a joint that a one-part glue has already let go, and the amazon.co.uk list still calls every bottle a two part adhesive. That label covers a mitre kit that grabs in about 10 seconds, a rapid epoxy you can still place, a slow epoxy you leave overnight, and a black syringe sold for plastics. On 20 October 2026 the small branded packs in our set sat around £7.50–£8.50, with syringes nearer £9–£10. This page is the order of decisions, from those listings and public UK sheets, not from a lab test. The scored table is the [two-part adhesive comparison](/hub/fillers-adhesives-and-sprays/two-part-adhesive). A qualifying amazon.co.uk purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

Four packs that all say two-part

Start with the joint, then the chemistry, and only then the stars. An activator kit is ethyl cyanoacrylate plus a separate aerosol. Sika’s Mitre Fast sheet, dated August 2025, describes a bond in about 10 seconds and a gap up to 0.2 mm. You spray one face and put adhesive on the other. You do not stir the bottle into the can. Araldite Rapid ARA-400005 is equal volumes of resin and hardener, with a 2 hour full-cure field and a trade-sheet pot life of about 5–8 minutes for a 100 g mix at 25°C. Araldite Standard asks for about 14 hours before you sand or paint. PlasticBonder is a black urethane syringe for plastics, not a clear household epoxy. If the faces must grab, or you still need to move them, go to epoxy or mitre adhesive.

Gap, clock and the room

Measure the gap before you trust a strength bullet. Mitre Fast is specified to 0.2 mm, a tight skirting mitre, not a missing corner. Reviewers of the grey metal-filled epoxy say the mix runs through a vertical hole. A water-resistant field is not an immersion rating. Read 5 minute as working time. On the DecorRom syringe, the Limino pair and the unbranded 250 ml bottles, the bullets then say functional strength in about an hour and full strength in about 24 hours. Bison’s sheet says the mix does not cure below +5°C, and Araldite Rapid’s sheet wants about 20°C to 25°C. Do not collapse those clocks into one cure.

What the listing must agree with itself about

Read the title against one bullet before you pay for a larger kit. Everbuild Mitre Fast MITRE2, ASIN B001V9R142, is titled 100 g and 400 ml at £8.99, and one bullet still says 50 g and 200 ml, so that title is not extra value. The 50 g MITRE1IND kit at £7.50 agrees with itself on the size line. Three Araldite listings print Best Price Square in the brand field, and manufacturer cells say VELCRO Brand or Velcro Ltd on packs whose tubes are Araldite. Follow the leaflet, not the broken cell. A full-cure field that prints 1,524 hours, or 1.2E+2 minutes, is a listing defect, not a specification. Water fields also disagree. B00BDTF0PW says Not Water Resistant, and two other Mitre Fast listings say Water Resistant. The Sika extract we used carries no waterproof claim, so those lines are not one immersion rating.

What to leave for another page

Polyethylene, polypropylene and PTFE are the usual exclusions on Araldite sheets, even when a bullet says most plastics. The lowest price per millilitre here is the unbranded 250 ml kit at £22.89, with an empty brand field and a thin written-review file. Volume is not evidence. A named maker and a large amazon.co.uk review count beat a cheap millilitre when the job is one household break. As a rule of thumb from this shelf, that break fits a £7–£8 tube pack. Leave load-bearing parts, fuel lines and pressurised joints off every pack here. Glue in an eye, or a spreading rash, is medical help. Daily workshop use still needs a COSHH assessment. A safety data sheet supports that assessment and does not replace it.

Common questions

Is a mitre kit a two part adhesive?
Yes, in the sense that two components have to meet. Everbuild Mitre Fast is ethyl cyanoacrylate plus an aerosol activator, not resin and hardener in a cup. Sika’s August 2025 sheet puts the grab at about 10 seconds and the gap at 0.2 mm. You do not mix the bottle into the spray. If you still need to slide the joint, a mixed epoxy is the closer match.
What does 5 minute epoxy actually mean?
On the clear syringes and bottles in this set, 5 minutes is working time. The same bullets put functional strength at about an hour and full strength at about 24 hours. A cold room below about 5°C can stop the cure. The number on the card is not permission to load the joint at five minutes.
When do I need twin tubes instead of a syringe?
Twin tubes, such as the 2 × 15 ml Araldite Rapid packs around £7.85–£8.45, let you squeeze a small equal dose and cap each part. A 100 ml syringe suits a lot of clear epoxy used soon after opening. Reviews of the syringes repeat blocked nozzles, swapped caps and unequal plungers. One ceramic handle wastes less in the small tubes.
Which listing fields should I ignore?
Ignore a cure cell that repeats the set time, prints thousands of hours, or uses notation such as 1.2E+2 minutes. Ignore a brand field that names the marketplace seller when the tube says Araldite, and a heat figure with no unit. When two Mitre Fast ASINs disagree on water resistance, quote the one you are buying and follow the leaflet for the clock.
What if the plastic might be polyethylene?
Do not buy a general epoxy on the hope that most plastics includes it. Araldite sheets usually exclude polyethylene, polypropylene and PTFE. A recycling mark of 2, 4 or 5 is the usual warning, as a rule of thumb for the moulding, not a lab test. Waiting longer does not repair that exclusion.
