Pond liner adhesive: name the sheet before the tube

Updated: 23 October 2026

The water has dropped overnight, and the cartridge is labelled pond liner adhesive without saying whether the sheet is EPDM, butyl or PVC. That phrase covers a sealant for a small tear, a primed seam tape for two rubber sheets, and a PVC cement or a heat weld for vinyl. This [pond liner adhesive comparison](/hub/fillers-adhesives-and-sprays/pond-liner-adhesive) holds the six amazon.co.uk listings, from £15.99 to £32.89 on the 21 October 2026 snapshot. We compared those listings and public UK guides, and did not lab-test the cartridges. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Three jobs, three products

Pond liner glue is not one chemistry you can swap by colour. Oase’s UK assembly page treats a PVC liner as a sheet that is usually heat-welded. PVC adhesive, on that page, is for minor repairs and short straight joints. EPDM is glued. A primed rubber seam is a third kit: Aqua Liners Direct’s joining guide for Elevate or SealEco EPDM calls for QuickPrime Plus, QuickSeam tape and a roller, a minimum 100 mm overlap, and a dry surface. A universal cartridge sits beside those systems. Oase describes UniFix+ as minor work, not as the product that joins two foil sections. A short split you can reach is a cartridge job. A join of several metres is not.

What this amazon.co.uk set actually names

Four of the six rows are MyPond MS300, and none print EPDM. The black single lists rubber and vinyl. The clear single puts only stone in the materials field, while the bullets also name rubber. A retailer page names EPDM, butyl and PVC for the black MS300. That list is not on the amazon.co.uk listing. UniFix+ is the only cartridge whose bullets say EPDM, rubber or PVC. The spec field says PVA, which the bullets do not. The butyl tape names EPDM and gives no width, length or primer. Read the EPDM versus PVC pond liner adhesive page before you join two rolls. The black single has its own 4.6 from 400 reviews. The clear single and both twins share 4.5 from 211.

Pack, gun and cure

The MyPond cartridges are 300 ml. UniFix+ is 290 ml, with about 7 m of coverage on the bullets. A single tube covers a short patch or a liner edge. It is not a seam kit for a buried join. The black twin is about £29.99, with a piece count of 2 and a weight of 295 g, the same as one cartridge. The clear twin weighs 770 g. Buy a twin only if the parcel really contains two cartridges. These cartridges need a mastic gun, and the gun is not in the box. MyPond’s cure is 24 hours, including an underwater line. UniFix+ says 24–48 hours on the bullets and says to process the bead dry and above the water. If you cannot leave the area dry, see the underwater pond liner repair page. No British Standard here certifies a consumer pond sealant as fish-safe.

When to stop

Stop when the sheet is unnamed, the seam is long, or the morning is colder than the guidance you can read. Pond Liners Co’s seaming page puts a 10°C floor on rubber seaming. Do not guess the sheet from colour. PVC is often a thinner plastic sheet, and EPDM is a thicker rubber. A long buried seam, a hot-air PVC weld, or a stocked pond you cannot drop below the hole is work for someone who seams liners for a living.

Common questions

Is pond liner adhesive one product?
No. The words cover a sealant cartridge, a primed double-sided tape for rubber, and a PVC cement or weld. Oase’s UK assembly page keeps PVC welding separate from EPDM gluing, and it keeps UniFix+ for small areas rather than for joining foil sections. Match the chemistry to the sheet first, then to the length of the job.
How do I tell EPDM, butyl and PVC apart before I buy?
Colour will not do it, because a wet black sheet can be any of the three. Use the invoice, the brand on an offcut, and the feel of that offcut. EPDM and butyl take primer and seam tape. PVC takes a weld or a PVC cement. If none of those clues exist, leave the basket empty.
When is a 300 ml cartridge enough?
A 300 ml MyPond tube, or the 290 ml UniFix+ with about 7 m stated on the bullets, is sized for a short patch, a pipe or a liner edge. It is the wrong pack when you are joining two rolls. UniFix+’s bullets still say to process the bead dry and above the water.
When do I need primer and seam tape instead?
You need them when two rubber sheets have to become one seam. Aqua Liners Direct’s EPDM method is primer, QuickSeam tape, a roller and a dry sheet, with a 100 mm overlap as their minimum. The butyl tape in this set names EPDM and then omits width, length and primer.
Can I use the same tube on PVC and EPDM?
Only if the listing names both, and only for the small job that listing describes. UniFix+ is the only cartridge here whose bullets say EPDM, rubber or PVC, and Oase still says foil sections need that liner’s own adhesive or primer. Pond Liners Co warns against joining EPDM directly to PVC.
Do these cartridges need a mastic gun?
Yes. The MyPond and UniFix+ listings do not include a gun. UK reviews of UniFix+ describe a cartridge that would not extrude until the end was cut, and a nozzle that was not in the parcel. Budget for a standard mastic gun and a spare nozzle. A twin pack does not add the gun either.
