Pattex silicone bathroom

Updated: 23 October 2026

The bead along the bath has gone black, and you want a cartridge that says mould resistant. Pattex silicone bathroom work is a sanitary paste matched to the surface, plus a room that can dry. A fungicide does not replace a fan, and it does not stop a leak. This page stays on baths, basins and showers. Figures are the amazon.co.uk snapshot of 19 October 2026. The table is the [Pattex silicone comparison](/hub/fillers-adhesives-and-sprays/pattex-silicone). We did not culture mould on a bead. The bathroom listings in this set

Two listings are sanitary packs for a wet joint. The 300 ml white neutral anti-mould cartridge, at about £14.07, names sinks, baths and shower cubicles. It is 4.4 from 1,157 ratings, and the technical table does not state a water-resistance level. The 50 ml transparent tube, at about £9.55, is titled bathrooms and kitchens, the surface line is shower, and the listing says waterproof and mildew resistant. It is 4.4 from 141 ratings. It is the best value here when you will not buy a gun, and it is not the best price per millilitre. Re-New and Sista Neue Fuge coat a bead that is still there. They do not fill a gap you have just cut out. SL 620 is a frame sealant, and AC411 is acrylic for wood. Reviewers describe a 300 ml bead that yellows, in notes from Italy and Spain, not the United Kingdom.

Acetoxy, plastic and stone

Acetoxy silicone smells of vinegar and suits glass and glaze. The sanitary anti-mould pressure-pack sheet is a 200 ml pack, not one of these seven listings, and its limits still apply: not plastic baths or plastic shower trays, not natural stone, not paint, not permanent immersion, not food contact and not aquariums. It is EN 15651-3 for ceramic baths and showers. The 300 ml line is not permission for an acrylic bath. Do not copy Mould Blocker's acrylic-bath claim onto that cartridge. That product is not in this comparison. The 50 ml tube, model 2721071, names plastic in its bullets and has not been matched to the 25% alkoxy sheet. Granite is natural stone, so acetoxy is the wrong cure. If you cannot name the bath material, do not guess.

Mould is moisture

GOV.UK's damp and mould guidance for rented housing treats black mould as moisture, not as a missing brand of sealant. Shower moisture becomes condensation on cold surfaces when ventilation is poor. Clean the bathroom extract fan and leave trickle vents open. The passage used here does not give a litres-per-second figure, so this page does not invent a fan size. A fungicide can slow growth on the silicone. It does not dry the room or fix a leak. A mould-resistant line is not a promise that the bead never goes black. If the fan is clogged and the tray holds water on the bead, the next cartridge marks in the same place. Wipe the joint dry, then choose the sanitary pack. If you are a tenant, report water coming through the building.

When silicone is the wrong fix

Stop buying silicone when water is through the ceiling or the wall, the shower tray has dropped, or tiles sound hollow. A bead cannot re-bed a tray. Call someone if you cannot tell acrylic from glaze and the only paste you have is acetoxy. Call someone if the leak is behind the panel. The 300 ml cartridge, at about £14.07, remains the sanitary listing for a new bead on a surface it is allowed to touch. Neither pack is a fan, and neither repairs a failed tray.

Common questions

Which Pattex listing is the bathroom bead?
The 300 ml white anti-mould cartridge for a new bead on sinks, baths and shower cubicles, and the 50 ml transparent tube for a short run without a gun. Re-New, Neue Fuge, both SL 620 colours and AC411 are other jobs. The 300 ml table does not state water resistance. The 50 ml listing says waterproof.
Can you use acetoxy on an acrylic bath or on granite?
The acetoxy pressure-pack sheet excludes plastic baths, plastic shower trays and natural stone. That pack is not the 300 ml listing, but those limits still apply. Granite is natural stone. If the bath is acrylic, do not lay vinegar-cure paste because the title says bathroom.
Does the 50 ml tube's plastic line mean every plastic bath?
No. The bullets for model 2721071 name plastic. That has not been matched to the 25% neutral alkoxy sheet. A bullet is not a survey of every acrylic bath. If you need a named plastic, you need a sheet that names it.
Will a mould claim keep the bead white?
No. A line that says the paste prevents, blocks and inhibits mould, or a triple mould line, is a fungicide claim. Reviewers of the 300 ml cartridge describe yellowing and replacement after about a year or two. A room that cannot dry will mark the next bead as well.
What does GOV.UK say mould comes from?
The damp and mould guidance treats black mould as a moisture problem. Shower moisture becomes condensation on cold surfaces when ventilation is poor. Clean bathroom extract fans and keep trickle vents open. Silicone does not replace that ventilation.
When do you call someone instead of buying silicone?
When water is coming through the ceiling or the wall, the tray has dropped, the tiles sound hollow, or the leak is behind the panel. Also stop if you cannot tell acrylic from glaze and the only paste you have is acetoxy. A failed tray is not a cartridge job.
