Parquet adhesive buying guide

Updated: 23 October 2026

You are choosing a parquet adhesive before you look at the price, because amazon.co.uk puts a 16 kg tub, a 600 ml cartridge and a small bottle in the same search. A tidy five-star bottle can be the wrong glue for a screed. This page is the decision order: the job shape, then the BS EN ISO 17178 class, then the moisture reading, then the kilograms. Shelf prices and the six-product table stay on the [parquet adhesive comparison](/hub/fillers-adhesives-and-sprays/parquet-adhesive). This is not a lab test. Three jobs, three glues

A full bed under engineered, mosaic or solid parquet is a notched-trowel tub. In this set that is Sika SikaBond 5500S at £127.99 for a titled 16 kg, Bona R848T at £172.88 for 15 kg, and Bona Titan at £231.34 for 15 kg. The 1 kg R848T bag at £19.89 is the same name in a smaller pack. Loose wood tiles are a different purchase. Sika SikaBond MS is 600 ml at £12.11. The uses field names wood flooring, skirtings and underfloor heating. That is a gun job, not a 15 kg bed, because the listing publishes no trowel rate. A floating floor is the third job. The Bostik bottle is 500 g at £15.24 and bonds floating tongues and grooves. It does not stick the boards to the screed.

Class, board width and a dry screed

BS EN ISO 17178:2020 replaced BS EN 14293:2006. Hard means a shear strength of 3.0 N/mm² or more. Hard-elastic means 2.0 N/mm² or more, with a shear elongation of 0.5 or more. Bona classes Titan as hard and R848T as hard-elastic. The 16 kg Sika listing does not state a class, a chemistry or a board-width cap. Soudal’s MS-20 Plus, not one of these six listings, limits solid boards to 160 mm. If your board is wider than the sheet you are using, ask a fitter. Floorscape’s summary of BS 8201, BS 8203 and BS 5325 treats 75% equilibrium relative humidity as the usual hygrometer pass, and not more than 65% RH for some timber over underfloor heating. Switch screed heating off for 96 hours before the test. Do not convert those figures into carbide-bomb percentages.

How many kilograms

Trade sheets for a normal bed run at about 750–1,500 g/m². Bona’s R848T catalogue range is about 850–1,250 g/m². The Titan listing prints about 850 g/m³ for a Bona 850 F toothed strip. Do not rewrite m³ as m². At those rates a 15 kg tub is often about 10–17 m², a rule of thumb, not a promise on these pages. The 1 kg R848T listing does not state coverage, so one bag is a repair or a cupboard. The 600 ml cartridge and the 500 g floating bottle do not belong in that sum. If the board is wider than the published limit, or the base is anhydrite with laitance still on it, call a fitter.

Listing lines to ignore

Three pages contradict themselves. On SikaBond 5500S the title is a 16 kg tub, while the bullets name a 300 ml metal-grey product. The weight cells say 16 kg, 16.79 kg and 16.8 kg. Do not treat the 300 ml line as a spare cartridge. On the 600 ml Sika MS page the bullets name a 1 litre PVA. The uses field you want is wood flooring, skirtings and underfloor heating, with solvent-free on the feature field. On the 15 kg R848T page the material field says silicone and the container field says syringe. Bona’s sheet says silane-modified prepolymer. The title says waterproof and the field says water resistant. Neither word is a damp-proof membrane. This set runs to 16 reviews, three, two, or none. Sixteen ratings can mention smell and wood blocks. They cannot supply a shear class the page never prints.

Common questions

Is a floating-floor bottle the same as a screed adhesive?
No. The Bostik 500 g bottle is for floating tongues and grooves. A screed adhesive is a notched-trowel bed, which in this file means the Sika 16 kg tub or a Bona 15 kg tub. Using the bottle as a bed does not stick the floor down the way the tub is meant to.
What do hard and hard-elastic mean in BS EN ISO 17178?
Hard is a shear strength of 3.0 N/mm² or more. Hard-elastic is 2.0 N/mm² or more, with a shear elongation of 0.5 or more. Bona classes Titan as hard and R848T as hard-elastic. The 16 kg Sika listing states no class, so you cannot call it either one from that page.
How many kilograms do I need for a normal bed?
Trade sheets used here sit around 750–1,500 g/m². At those rates a 15 kg tub is often about 10–17 m². That is a rule of thumb, not a line on these listings. The Titan page prints about 850 g/m³, which you should not rewrite as square metres.
What moisture reading do I need before I spread adhesive?
Floorscape’s summary of the British installation codes uses 75% equilibrium relative humidity as the usual hygrometer pass, and not more than 65% RH for some timber over underfloor heating. Switch screed heating off for 96 hours before that test. A pin meter in the board is not that test.
Which of these listings name underfloor heating?
The Sika MS 600 ml cartridge, the Bona R848T 15 kg tub and Bona Titan name heating. The 16 kg Sika tub only has heating as a question. The 1 kg R848T bag and the Bostik bottle do not name it. A named line is not a temperature cap.
Why ignore the 300 ml bullet on the 16 kg Sika page?
The title is a 16 kg parquet adhesive. The bullets describe a 300 ml metal-grey product pasted into the same listing. The weight cells also disagree between 16 kg, 16.79 kg and 16.8 kg. Read the title, and treat the stray bullet as noise.
