Hot glue sticks buying guide

Updated: 23 October 2026

You have a glue gun and amazon.co.uk refills that look alike. A hot glue sticks buying guide decides the pack before the stars. We read twelve listings captured on 19 October 2026 for diameter, length, pack count and temperature. This is not a lab bond test. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. See the rows on the [hot glue sticks comparison](/hub/fillers-adhesives-and-sprays/hot-glue-sticks). If the gun is 7 mm or 11 mm, [best hot glue sticks](/hub/fillers-adhesives-and-sprays/hot-glue-sticks/sub/hot-glue-sticks-best) names a top pick and a best value line. If both diameters are in the basket, read [7 mm versus 11 mm glue sticks](/hub/fillers-adhesives-and-sprays/hot-glue-sticks/sub/hot-glue-sticks-7mm-vs-11mm).

Check the diameter first

The first field is the diameter on your gun, not the word universal. Mini craft guns in this set take 7 mm sticks, about 100 mm or 102 mm long. Full-size guns take 11 mm: WORKPRO at 11 mm × 100 mm, WORKPRO at 11 mm × 200 mm, and SHALL at 11 mm × 200 mm. A 7 mm stick in an 11 mm gun can let melt push backwards. An 11 mm stick will not enter a 7 mm barrel. If the barrel and the pack disagree, stop before you compare pence per stick.

Then check temperature, not the word universal

Glue Guns Direct puts a standard hot melt near 195°C and a low-melt grade near 130°C, and says low-melt sticks are not for a standard hot gun. None of the twelve packs is a stated low-temperature grade. BEEWAY is a 7 mm stick with viscosity of 9,000±500 mPa·s at 180°C, and it still claims high, low, dual and multi-temperature use. SHALL’s 11 mm pack makes a similar claim while reviewers say it smells and smokes. ADHES hi-temp mini means a hot mini gun. WORKPRO’s softening point of 83±3°C is where the solid yields, not the nozzle temperature.

Length, pack count and the rows that disagree

ANSIO reviewers say 100 mm sticks run out quickly. SHALL’s 70-pack at £16.99 and WORKPRO’s 100-pack at £18.99 are 200 mm, so they feed longer. An 11 mm × 200 mm stick holds more glue than a 7 mm × 100 mm stick, so pence per stick is only a rule of thumb. BEEWAY’s title says 50 sticks at £5.99, the pieces field says 40, and the weight is 30 g. Amazon Basics lists 100 sticks at £5.83 and prints 3.97 g. ADHES says 100 sticks, a unit count of 1.0, and corded electric as a component. Only SHALL says water resistant. BEEWAY and JelKen say not. A blank is not a bathroom claim.

How to read stars on this set

Stars come last. ANSIO’s 50-pack at £3.95 is 4.7 from 4,007 reviews and rank 1 in Hot Glue Sticks on the captured page. Aspect at £6.99 is 5.0 from two delivery notes. ADHES is 5.0 from six reviews written in Germany and the United States. The three WORKPRO sizes all print 4.7 from 4,776, with the same written text. BEEWAY’s 10,586 reviews sit next to a 50-versus-40 count conflict.

Common questions

What diameter does my gun take?
Read the gun, not the best-seller list. A mini craft gun in this set takes 7 mm sticks. A full-size gun takes 11 mm sticks, and an 11 mm stick will not enter a 7 mm barrel. If the manual says 12 mm, that is a near neighbour of 11 mm on some trade guns, not a match for a 7 mm ANSIO or BEEWAY stick. Dremel’s UK manual is a clean example: the 910 and 930 are 7 mm, and the 940 is 11/12 mm at 230 V.
Is 11 mm the same as 12 mm?
No. Bostik’s UK DIY sheet is a 12 mm stick for a gun around 175–200°C. Glue Guns Direct describes a European 12 mm stick as about 11.3–11.7 mm and warns that a thinner stick can melt back. You can compare an 11 mm WORKPRO or SHALL pack with a gun marked 11 mm. You should not treat 7 mm and 12 mm as interchangeable, and you should not force a fit with a spacer.
Does high, low and dual mean a low-temperature stick?
Not in this set. A low-melt craft grade is a stated temperature, around 130°C on Glue Guns Direct’s table or about 85°C on a Steinel low-temperature stick, and it needs a matching gun. BEEWAY’s viscosity is quoted at 180°C. ADHES is hi-temp mini. Dual on those bullets is a listing claim, not an 85°C fabric grade.
Why do two WORKPRO sizes show the same review count?
The captured files for the 7 mm 200-pack, the 11 mm × 100 mm pack and the 11 mm × 200 mm pack all show 4.7 from 4,776 reviews, and the written reviews are the same pool. Use that number as the listing’s printed count. Do not add the three figures together, and do not treat them as a test of one diameter.
Is a 5.0 from two reviews better than 4.7 from thousands?
No. Aspect is 5.0 from two reviews, and the captured comment is about delivery. ANSIO is 4.7 from 4,007 reviews that describe melt and feed. A small perfect score does not outweigh a large file once the diameter already matches your gun.
Are these sticks waterproof?
Only if the listing says so, and even then it is a claim rather than a soak test. SHALL’s row says water resistant. BEEWAY and JelKen say not water resistant. Where the comparison says the listing does not state water resistance, that blank is not a yes. Do not use these packs as a seal on a wet joint.
