Best caulking gun UK: match the tube, then the stop

Updated: 2026-10-23

You are buying a first manual gun for silicone, acrylic or a stiffer adhesive, or replacing a skeleton that twisted on the last cartridge. A best caulking gun UK search shows heavy-duty titles before it tells you whether the cradle is long enough. Decide tube length first, then how the gun unloads the piston, then whether the listing prints a push figure. The twelve shelf prices are on the [caulking gun comparison](/hub/fillers-adhesives-and-sprays/caulking-gun). Prices are the amazon.co.uk shelf prices recorded for this comparison on 21 October 2026, not a live re-check. There is no lab test. What you are buying

A caulking gun, which UK shops also call a mastic gun or a sealant gun, drives a piston into a rigid cartridge of silicone, acrylic decorator's caulk, or grab adhesive. It does not heat the product, mix it, or change the movement class on the label. Air guns and foil sausages are a different tool. You are paying for a cradle that accepts the tube, a rod that keeps pressure on while you move, and something that takes that pressure off when you stop. A light skeleton that prints heavy duty and no thrust figure is still a light frame. If the steel twisted on the first stiff cartridge, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 gives you 30 days to reject goods that are not of satisfactory quality.

Cartridge length before brand

Ordinary sanitary silicone in a UK bathroom is about 310 ml. Wolfcraft states 310 ml for the MG 100 and the MG 200. The WORKPRO title stops at 290–310 ml. Those three will not take a 380–400 ml trade tube. The Ram listing, at about £5.95 with 4.4 from 185 ratings, mentions larger tubes, and reviewers say a 350 ml or 400 ml tube does not fit. Sika's UK page rates the Everbuild Power Pro for 310 ml and 400 ml, at about 0.8 kg. The amazon.co.uk bullets do not print 400 ml. A high thrust figure cannot stretch a cradle that is already too short.

Stop, rod and stated push

A skeleton uses a notched rod. Each squeeze clicks the piston forward, and the pressure stays on the cartridge until you press the release plate. A drip-stop, which the MG 100 listing states at about £8.45, unloads the piston when you release the trigger. The MG 200 at about £14.39 states the same automatic drip-stop. The 130 kg pushing figure is printed on the MG 100 listing, not on the MG 200 bullets. Everbuild's bullets say dripless on the Power Pro at about £15.60 and call the ratio very high without a number. The WORKPRO, at about £19.99, prints 9:1 and 18:1 for 290–310 ml.

Which band matches the job

A first 310 ml bathroom bead, where you want a stated drip-stop and can do without a rotating sleeve, sits with the MG 100. The MG 200 adds that sleeve and a fibreglass-reinforced plastic body at 365 g, and it still refuses a long decorator's tube. Stiff grab adhesive points at the heavier Everbuild. A weak grip that wants the ratio in print points at the WORKPRO, and only while the tube is 290–310 ml. Thin caulk along a skirting can stay on a Coral or a ProDec skeleton if you will press the release every time you stop. If the tube still will not load, thrust copy will not lengthen the cradle.

Common questions

Should you buy on heavy duty when no thrust ratio is printed?
Treat heavy duty as a label until the listing prints a ratio or a push figure such as the 130 kg on the MG 100. The WORKPRO states 9:1 and 18:1. The Everbuild Power Pro says the ratio is very high and leaves the number off. A light skeleton with the same slogan is still a light frame, fine for thin caulk if the cradle fits, and a poor replacement if the last stiff cartridge already twisted a similar gun.
When is a 310 ml gun the wrong purchase?
It is the wrong purchase when the cartridge is a 380–400 ml trade tube or a decorator's cartridge reviewers already call too long. The MG 100, the MG 200 and the WORKPRO state a 310 ml class of tube, which matches sanitary silicone for a bath. The Ram title talks about larger tubes, and reviewers say a 350 ml or 400 ml tube does not fit.
What is the difference between a release plate and a drip-stop?
A release plate sits on a ratchet gun, and you press it so the rod can move back. A drip-stop unloads the piston when you let go of the trigger. The MG 100 and the MG 200 state one, and Everbuild's bullets call the Power Pro dripless. You still tool the bead. Both deal with pressure, and neither finishes the joint.
Is a kit with smoothing tools a stronger gun?
The Grapelet at about £8.99 and the Sentoo at about £18.99 add scrapers and profilers. Reviewers like those tools and still report warped frames and nozzles that do not fit. The tools can shape a bead. They do not raise the thrust. If a kit frame has already bent, buy the gun and a profiler as separate items.
What does 9:1 against 18:1 change?
On the WORKPRO those are two trigger advantages for the same 290–310 ml cradle. The higher figure reduces hand force and increases trigger travel. A plain skeleton is often treated as around 7:1, a rule of thumb that suits thin decorator's caulk. Silicone and grab adhesive are where a printed step up earns its place. A listing with no number has not told you which side you are on.
What must you refuse about a claim that a gun fits all cartridges?
A universal bullet does not override a 310 ml limit or reviewer fit notes. The Ram title mentions 400 ml, and reviewers say a 350 ml or 400 ml tube does not fit. Wolfcraft's pages stay at 310 ml, and the MG 100 listing prints 130 kg. If the reviews on that listing already say the tube is too long, believe the reviews over the title.
