Pneumatic caulking gun buying guide

Updated: 23 October 2026

You want compressed air to push the sealant, and the titles all say professional. On 19 October 2026 the five air guns on our [air caulking gun comparison](/hub/fillers-adhesives-and-sprays/air-caulking-gun) ran from £26.99 to £65.44 on amazon.co.uk, and two had no star rating. This pneumatic caulking gun buying guide checks three things: is it actually air, does the barrel match the pack, and is the pressure a number you can set. A sausage gun, a cordless rod gun, and a PU foam gun can share that search. If you buy through our links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Confirm it is an air gun

An air caulking gun needs a hose and a compressor. Your hand guides the nozzle. The air supplies the force. An 18 V bare tool, a 25:1 skeleton gun, a scraper kit, or expanding-foam guns are different products, even when the title borrows the word caulking. A foam gun screws onto a polyurethane can and does not take a 310 ml silicone cartridge. Read the power line twice. The plplaaoo at £27.14 describes a pneumatic gun in the bullets and then prints AC/DC in the technical table. Clarke’s CAT82B page and the amazon bullets for B006YLZ2DO both talk about air, pressure, and a cartridge. Do not buy air if you have no compressor. Size is on the compressor for a caulking gun page.

Match the cartridge or the sausage

Most DIY silicone in the UK is a rigid cartridge about 50 mm across and 210–215 mm long. Clarke calls that C3 and lists 215 × 50 mm, often sold as 310 ml. A 600 ml foil sausage is soft, needs a barrel that supports the foil, and is common for site adhesive. The banapoy listing is the only row here that states a 600 ml cylinder. It does not say a standard 310 ml cartridge will fit. A combi gun, Adhesive Dispensing part 181326, is sold for both cartridge and sachet work, at £135 excluding VAT. The plplaaoo table prints 40 g next to a parcel of 28 × 21 × 6 cm. We did not weigh the tool.

Read the maximum, not the slogan

UK pages do not share one safe pressure. Clarke’s product page markets 4.8–10.3 bar, while the CAT82B manual says do not exceed 90 psi and recommends no more than 70 psi while the gun is running. Sealey’s AK41.V3 manual caps that 310 ml gun at 3 bar. Chicago Pneumatic states 6.3 bar maximum for the CP9885 on its own page, and that figure is not in the amazon technical table. You need a maximum you can set on a regulator. A marketing line of up to 10 bar is not that maximum when the manual sits lower. Thrust is a related number, not a sealant grade. COX’s AirFlow 3 publishes about 145 kgf at 6.8 bar. The banapoy page states 1.45 kN at 6.8 bar.

What the current listings actually state

Read the five rows as a checklist, not as a league table. Clarke B006YLZ2DO, £26.99, states 215 × 50 mm, 4.8–10.3 bar, and 1 cfm, with 4.3 from 163 reviews and UK text. The trigger is full flow unless you add a regulator, and the end cap can lose its seal. Chicago Pneumatic CP9885, B001VY1KU8, £40.71, states a 2 in × 8.5 in cartridge, 1.05 kg, and 71 dB, with 4.5 from 383 ratings. The amazon row does not state bar or cfm. banapoy B09SZKGFJH, £65.44, states 600 ml, 0–123 psi, and 1.45 kN at 6.8 bar, with 5.0 from 3 ratings and no review text. The title says aluminium alloy and a bullet says reinforced plastic. plplaaoo at £27.14 and BONKZEBU at £63.69 have no pressure and no reviews. Who should skip each listing is on the best air caulking gun page.

Common questions

Will an air caulking gun take a normal 310 ml tube?
Only if the listing states a cartridge about 215 × 50 mm, or the 2 in × 8.5 in size Chicago Pneumatic prints. Clarke’s bullets say 215 × 50 mm, and reviewers describe the smaller tube, about 300 ml, rather than a larger one. A 600 ml sausage barrel is a different tool. If the page says large capacity and gives no millilitres, you do not yet know.
Do I need a sausage gun for foil packs?
Yes, if the adhesive arrives as a 600 ml foil sausage rather than a rigid cartridge. The foil needs a closed barrel. A standard cartridge gun will not turn that pack into a neat bead. Combi guns exist in the trade, including a pneumatic cartridge-and-sachet model listed at £135 excluding VAT, but they say so in the specification. Assume a cartridge gun is cartridge-only until the page says otherwise.
What pressure number must the listing have?
A maximum you can reconcile with the manual, in bar or psi, plus a regulator you can set below it. Clarke’s amazon line says 4.8–10.3 bar, and the CAT82B manual tells you not to exceed 90 psi. Sealey’s manual for a different 310 ml gun stops at 3 bar. Copying one brand’s number onto another gun is how cartridges split and air blows past the plunger.
Why do two professional guns cost about £27 and about £64?
Because the word is not a specification. The £27.14 plplaaoo page has no reviews and no pressure. The £63.69 BONKZEBU page names a regulator and still omits pack size and bar. Clarke is £26.99 with a stated cartridge, a stated 1 cfm, and 163 reviews. Price alone does not tell you which page is documented.
What is missing if there are no reviews and no bar figure?
A reason to trust the tool with a live hose. You cannot see how the bead starts and stops, whether the trigger is on or off, or what pressure the maker allows. Treat that listing as unread. Come back if a manual and a review line appear, or choose a row that already states the pack and the limit.
