Soil Association organic liquid fertiliser, UK mark

Updated: October 2026

You read organic on an amazon.co.uk title and assumed the bottle could sit on an inspected plot. Soil Association organic liquid fertiliser is the mark check: a named UK control body, not the word in the title, and an approved garden input is not organic food. The [organic liquid fertiliser comparison](/hub/fertiliser-soil-and-bark-mulch/organic-liquid-fertiliser) only shows the cert column. This page maps those nine captures onto Soil Association, OF&G, and title-only organic. We compared amazon.co.uk listings and public UK sources, and we did not run a laboratory test. Organic food and an approved garden input are different jobs

GOV.UK says it is illegal to call food organic without a UK control body. A brown bottle in this set is an input, not a tomato you will sell as organic food. Soil Association approved inputs are inspected products that may be used in an organic system. The Association does not assess whether they work. OF&G approved inputs are products that are not themselves organic but may be used in organic systems. Sunshine, Topline and Vitax say organic and do not name a body in the captured bullets. That wording is not a mark you can show an inspector. Sunshine 5 L is the concrete case: the manufacturer field is Sunshine Renewables UK, the brand field says Generic, and no control body is named. This site did not verify a current directory listing. The order of label checks sits on the organic liquid fertiliser buying guide. A pick for a stated job sits on best organic liquid fertiliser.

Which of these nine bottles name a body

Named, with one body in the capture: Maxicrop 2.5 L names the Soil Association on the bullet. Shropshire 5 L names OF&G on the bullet, and it also mentions USDA in the US. The UK check is OF&G. Those are the two cleanest mark rows in this set. Mixed strings: Maxicrop organic lawn 1 L and Maxicrop organic tomato 1 L name OF&G on the bullet and the Soil Association on the highlight. The file contains both strings and does not show a certificate. Do not treat that as two certificates. If you are inspected, look the product up. If you are not, treat the mixed strings as a messy marketplace page, not as proof. Not named: Sunshine 5 L, Sunshine 2.5 L, Sunshine 6 L plus iron, Topline 2 x 1 L, and Vitax. Skip them as a mark. You can still buy them as a home tonic if the job fits. The 21-day animal-by-product grazing line does not apply to these plant-only bottles.

The mark is not a full fertiliser

A Soil Association stimulant is still a stimulant. OF&G on Shropshire does not print an NPK. Maxicrop Original stays below a declared nutrient line on the SBM wording. Shropshire's 1:500 and the line of up to 2,500 litres are listing figures, not a solids test. The tomato litre's 4:2:6 field is not this site's analysis. If you needed fruit nutrition, the mark page is the wrong place to finish. That argument sits on seaweed fertiliser or liquid feed.

What the mark does not prove

Approval is not an efficacy score. The Soil Association does not assess whether an input works. A 4.6 from 3,688 reviews on Maxicrop 2.5 L is marketplace evidence, not a certificate of bigger crops. Great Britain fertiliser marketing sits under the Fertilising Products Regulations 2020. Northern Ireland can differ on organic scope, so read that directory note rather than this capture. Anyone inspected, or anyone who told a scheme they use only approved inputs, must re-check the live list. A home gardener who will not show the receipt can stop at the title warning. This page is not a ranking.

Common questions

Does organic on amazon.co.uk mean Soil Association?
No. Only Maxicrop 2.5 L names the Soil Association on the bullet in this set. The lawn and tomato litres carry a Soil Association highlight next to an OF&G bullet. Sunshine, Topline and Vitax titles say organic without a named body. A title is not a certificate.
What is an approved input?
An approved input is a product a control body allows in an organic system. OF&G says those products are not themselves organic. Soil Association approved inputs are inspected. Neither mark is a promise that the bottle grows more fruit.
Is OF&G the same as Soil Association?
They are different UK control bodies. Shropshire names OF&G. Maxicrop 2.5 L names the Soil Association. The lawn and tomato litres name both strings without a certificate in the file. If you are inspected, your scheme tells you which directory to use.
Can I use Sunshine or Topline on a certified plot?
Not on the strength of the title. Those listings do not name a control body in the captured bullets. Check the live directory. If the product is absent, pick a named row or ask your inspector. Home use without a scheme is a different decision.
Why do Maxicrop lawn and tomato name two bodies?
The bullet names OF&G and the highlight names the Soil Association. This file stores both strings. It does not store a certificate. Treat that as a messy listing, then look the product up if you need a mark.
Does the mark mean the bottle is a full fertiliser?
No. Approval is about use in an organic system, not about NPK. Maxicrop 2.5 L is a stimulant. Shropshire does not print an NPK. The tomato litre is the feed-shaped exception, and its 4:2:6 field is not this site's lab result.
Where do I check the current directory?
Use the Soil Association approved-and-verified inputs page or the OF&G Approved Inputs list, and search the product you hold. This site did not copy a live directory row into the capture. Check again if your inspection is this season.
