Best nitrogen fertiliser for the job in front of you

Updated: October 2026

Amazon's grid for a nitrogen fertiliser shows whatever is in stock. It does not say which of these seven listings prints an analysis, or which job that analysis is for. A best nitrogen fertiliser here means a lawn granule whose numbers agree, a refusal to crown the vegetable bottles, and one grow feed that prints 3-2-3. The full table is the [nitrogen fertiliser comparison](/hub/fertiliser-soil-and-bark-mulch/nitrogen-fertiliser). Prices are the amazon.co.uk snapshot of 19 October 2026. This page is from Peter F., the DIY and tools editor. The listings were read with public UK sources. This is not a lab test. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What best can mean in this set

A pick needs a printed nitrogen figure and a matching job. Lawn, leafy crop, and a bottled grow feed are three jobs. Stars, a Best Sellers Rank, and the word nitrogen are not a fourth way to win. If the percentage or the dose is missing, the listing is too thin to rank, even at the lowest price. There is no single winner for every garden. The checks are on the nitrogen fertiliser buying guide. Urea feeds outside this set are not these ASINs.

Lawn granules

For a lawn granule whose model and bullets agree, the pick is Bottos Sprint N, 4 kg, at £29.01. Both lines print 27-0-14, and 4 kg is stated for 160 square metres. The title says slow-release. Skip it for a tomato, a wildflower lawn, and feeding after August. The September and October bullets are on nitrogen fertiliser for lawns. The 2 kg listing, at £13.87, states 2 kg for 80 square metres. The title prints 27-5-15 and the bullets print 27-0-14. It is the best value on price and sample size. It is not the listing with one analysis.

Leafy crops and pots

Neither vegetable candidate earns a crown. VegAzoto, 1 litre at £18.99, has no star line. The 5 litre pack at £29.99 shows 5.0 from one review and no text. Both name plant-origin nitrogen and potassium, plus 300–500 g per 100 litres, and neither prints a percentage. The 5 litre title says 5 kg while the unit count is 5,000 ml. Vitax, 9 × 500 g at £59.41, is thinner: the title is the nitrogen claim, with no NPK, no dilution and no review line, and the picture may not match after a rebrand. VegAzoto at least prints grams per 100 litres. That is a partial label. The form choice is on liquid or granular nitrogen fertiliser.

Hesi and UK Grow

Hesi TNT Complex, 500 ml at £14.28, is the only bottle with a printed analysis: N P K 3-2-3. One United Kingdom text says the price is good and names no plant. Six texts are from Germany. The amazon.co.uk fields print no dose. The maker's page says soil and coco and points hydroponics elsewhere. The maker's line that most of the nitrogen is organic is not a certification, and it is not on the amazon listing. Use Hesi for a printed 3-2-3 on soil or coco, not for an 80 square metre lawn. UK Grow Nitrogen Plus, 500 ml at £10.99, has no percentage and no dose. Rank 204 in Hydroponic Nutrients and Additives shows that people find the listing. It does not show what is in the bottle.

What not to crown

Do not call any of these a test winner, or claim a pack is safe for pets, or that VegAzoto or Hesi is certified organic. Hesi is the small bottle that shows 3-2-3, with the dose missing on Amazon. Leave UK Grow, Vitax, and both VegAzoto sizes unranked on percentage.

Common questions

Which saved listing is the lawn pick, and which pack is only cheaper?
The lawn pick is Bottos Sprint N 4 kg, at £29.01, because the model and the bullets both print 27-0-14 and 4 kg is stated for 160 square metres. The 2 kg pack at £13.87 has more reviews, but the title prints 27-5-15 while the bullets print 27-0-14. Neither is an autumn feed, and neither is for tomatoes.
Can UK Grow be the best hydroponic nitrogen feed with no percentage?
No. The title says Nitrogen Plus and names hydroponics and soil. The listing has no NPK and no dose. Three reviews and a hydroponic rank do not fill that gap. A pick has to rest on a printed nitrogen figure. At £10.99 the bottle is cheap and still too thin to rank.
Is Hesi TNT Complex a hydroponic bottle or a soil and coco feed?
The maker's page treats it as soil and coco at 3-2-3, and points hydroponics to a different bottle. The amazon model line prints N P K 3-2-3 and no dose. The maker's 50 ml per 10 litres is not an amazon field. A review's 2 ml per litre is not the label. Hesi is the printed-analysis grow bottle here, not a lawn fertiliser.
Is VegAzoto or Vitax the best feed for leafy vegetables?
Neither. VegAzoto names nitrogen without percentages and prints 300–500 g per 100 litres. Vitax says soluble high nitrogen, costs £59.41, and prints no dilution. A single five-star review with no text does not turn the 5 litre VegAzoto into a ranked nitrogen fertiliser.
Does a Best Sellers Rank replace a missing NPK?
No. Ranks describe where Amazon placed the listing when it was read. They are not a chemical analysis. UK Grow's place in hydroponic nutrients does not create a percentage. A missing NPK still means the listing is too thin to call best.
Are the Bottos reviews UK evidence, and was the 60–90 day claim measured?
The saved texts are tagged Italy. They mention greener grass and also scorch, including a burn on the 4 kg pack. That is a warning about uneven granules, not a UK lawn sample. The 60–90 day Polyon line is a claim on the bullets. That claim was not measured here, and it does not override the RHS August limit.
