Smart hub for cameras UK

Updated: 23 October 2026

The box is labelled a hub. The label does not say if it stores video, shows a tile, or has a lens. This smart hub for cameras UK page stays with that split. Tapo H200 is the local store and the chime. An Echo screen is a tile, and only the Show has a camera on the hub itself. The rest of the nine sit on the [smart home hub comparison](/hub/electronic-surveillance/smart-home-hub). If you are not yet sure you need a camera hub, start with the [smart home hub buying guide](/hub/electronic-surveillance/smart-home-hub/sub/smart-home-hub-buying-guide). Two camera jobs in this set

One job is storage and a chime for Tapo cameras that TP-Link lists for the H200. The other job is an Alexa tile. Echo Hub or an Echo Show shows a live view from a camera account you already have. Four pictures on the glass do not make Echo Hub a recorder. Echo Show adds a lens of its own. Tapo H200, at £25.49, is the specialist for the first job, with 4.5 from 921 reviews, up to 64 Sub-1G sensors plus four cameras or doorbells. That radio is not Zigbee. A Ring camera does not join it. For Alexa tiles, Echo Hub is the dashboard case, and it does not store clips. Those names are on the best smart home hub UK page. Alexa sees H200 devices only after they are paired to the hub.

Read the Tapo list, then buy a card

Open TP-Link’s UK page for the H200 and match model numbers before you trust the basket. Examples include the C420, the C400, and the D230 doorbell. A review says the D235 does not back up to the H200, so check the current page if that doorbell is yours. The card is a second purchase. TP-Link UK lists local microSD up to 512 GB, and the amazon.co.uk file does not say a card is in the box. Buy a card the hub accepts and confirm in the Tapo app that the camera is writing to it. An empty slot is a chime, not an archive. Pairing checks are on the how to set up a smart home hub page.

Echo Hub and Echo Show tiles

Echo Hub, at £89.99, is an 8 inch dashboard without a camera of its own. Reviews talk about four live streams, and about Tapo and Kasa widgets that drop until the panel is reopened. Use it as a tile if those cameras already appear in Alexa. Do not use it as the recorder or the only copy of the footage. A frozen screen takes the tiles with it. Echo Show 8 and Echo Show 11 put a camera on the hub. The newest Show 8 is £119.99. The 3rd-gen Show 8 is £149.99 and names Zigbee, Matter, and Thread. That lens watches the room the screen sits in. It does not store the garden Tapo camera. SwitchBot Hub Mini and Broadlink RM5plus do not store video.

If the doorbell sees the street

The Information Commissioner’s Office treats a smart doorbell as home CCTV. The rules follow the lens, not the logo on the hub. If the camera films only your own side of the door or your own garden, the ICO’s domestic framing is the one that fits. The moment the view includes a neighbour’s garden, a communal corridor, or the street, data protection law applies. Point the lens tightly, put up a clear sign, store the clips so a stranger cannot browse them, delete them when the reason has passed, and answer a person who asks for footage of themselves. A microSD in a Tapo H200 does not cancel that. Stop and get advice if you are a landlord filming tenants. Nothing here claims that a hub reduces crime.

Common questions

Which hub in this set is for cameras?
Tapo H200, at £25.49, stores listed Tapo cameras and doorbells on a microSD card and acts as a chime. Echo Hub and the Echo Shows are for live tiles in Alexa, and only the Shows have a camera on the device. Echo Hub has no lens and is not a recorder. SwitchBot and Broadlink do not handle video.
Does Tapo H200 work with every Tapo camera?
No. TP-Link UK publishes a list, with examples such as the C420, the C400, and the D230, and a cap of four cameras or doorbells. Sub-1G sensors are a separate cap of 64. A review says the D235 does not back up to the hub, so confirm that on the current Tapo page.
Is the microSD card included?
The amazon.co.uk file does not say a card is in the box. TP-Link UK lists local storage up to 512 GB, which is a capacity, not a card we are claiming was packed. Buy a suitable microSD and confirm in the Tapo app that the camera is writing to it. An empty slot is a chime and a live view, not an archive.
Do you need an ICO registration for a home doorbell?
The ICO includes smart doorbells in its home CCTV guidance. A doorbell that films only your own property sits in the domestic use that guidance describes. If the lens records a neighbour, a shared hallway, or the street, data protection law applies: limit the view, display a sign, store securely, delete, and answer a request for the footage.
Does local storage replace a Tapo subscription for every model?
No. A microSD card covers local clips for cameras the H200 accepts, up to four cameras and the 512 GB ceiling TP-Link states. It does not record an excluded model, and it does not replace every cloud feature. Echo Hub can show a Tapo tile, but the Hub is not the card.
