How to charge a power station with solar

Updated: October 2026

You have a small station, or you are about to, and you expect the 10 W or 40 W panel in the title to refill it on a British afternoon. How to charge a power station with solar, for these boxes, starts with the mains adapter at home. The panel is a top-up that must sit inside a voltage window, and nameplate watts are not what a grey sky delivers. It is not a ranking and not a lab test. A purchase through the main table can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. The boxes are on the [Solar storage comparison](/hub/electrical-equipment/solar-storage).

Charge from the mains adapter first

Fill the station from the included adapter before you travel. The VCLPOWER bullet says the AC adapter takes about 5 to 6 hours for a full charge. The MARBERO M82 says about 5 hours, with an adapter input of 100–240 V at 50–60 Hz. The M82 PLUS, the SinKeu and the VTOMAN do not give a hours-to-full figure. Use the five-hour lines only for the ASINs that print them. Which box you should have bought is the portable power station buying guide.

What a 10 watt or 40 watt panel can add

Only two stories include a panel. The VCLPOWER bullet says 10 W. The VTOMAN title says 40 W, and the bullets describe a VS40 panel with kickstands. MARBERO and SinKeu say the panel is not included. Neither listing states a solar hours-to-full figure. Anker’s UK note says a 100 W camping panel may fall to about 10–25% of its rating on a uniformly cloudy day, as their estimate. As a rule of thumb only, a 40 W panel is then in the region of 4–10 W, and a 10 W panel in the region of 1–2.5 W. The weekend version of charging first is on camping power station.

Stay inside the input window

A panel that is too high in voltage can damage the input even when the wattage looks modest. Renogy’s UK suitcase manual states the rule: operating voltage has to clear the station’s minimum, and open-circuit voltage must not exceed the maximum. “About 40 W” is not a voltage. The M82 says 15–24 V at 1.2 A, panel not included. The SinKeu says 13–23 V at 2.4 A maximum. A third-party panel has to fit that window, including open-circuit voltage. The M82 PLUS does not print a window. Do not copy 15–24 V from the M82 because the ports look similar. None of these tables states MPPT. Do not add it.

Leads, pass-through, and storage

The VCLPOWER included-components line says two panels, while a bullet lists one. The M82 review says solar cables are not included. The VTOMAN included-components line names the station, while the title describes the panel. Pass-through is claimed on the VCLPOWER only. The other four pages do not state it. The VCLPOWER care line says: if unused, recharge at least every two weeks and keep about 60–80%. If the case swells, smells hot, or will not take a charge, stop and do not open the pack. Which of the five you are storing is on best small solar generator.

Common questions

Can I charge these from a wall socket in the UK?
Yes. Charging from the station’s own adapter is how the listings tell you to refill. That is not the same as feeding the house from the station. The adapter should suit a BS 1363 socket. The MARBERO pages state 100–240 V input. Check the pins. Do not back-feed a wall socket to make the ring main live.
How long do the listings say a mains charge takes?
The VCLPOWER bullet says about 5 to 6 hours. The M82 says about 5 hours. The M82 PLUS, the SinKeu and the VTOMAN do not state a hours-to-full figure. Do not reuse the five-hour line for those three. A solar refill time is not stated for any of them.
Will a 10 W panel fill a 75 Wh station in a day?
Not as a promise, and not under cloud. The VCLPOWER states 75 Wh and a 10 W panel, and it does not state a solar charge time. In strong sun a 10 W nameplate is still a slow fill. Anker and EcoFlow estimate about 10–25% of nameplate under uniform cloud, as their estimate for larger panels, not as a test of this 10 W panel.
What if the panel voltage is higher than the input window?
Do not connect it. The M82 window is 15–24 V at 1.2 A. The SinKeu window is 13–23 V at 2.4 A. Open-circuit voltage must stay inside the maximum, which is the point Renogy’s manual makes. The M82 PLUS does not print a window, so do not borrow the M82 figures. A modest wattage can still be an illegal voltage.
Is the solar cable in the box?
It depends on the ASIN. The VCLPOWER bullet includes a panel cable of about 9.8 ft, with a clash between one panel and two. A review of the M82 says solar cables are not included. The SinKeu list has no panel. The VTOMAN included-components line names the station, while the bullets describe a panel. Read the parcel, not the title alone.
How should I store it between trips?
The only printed care line is on the VCLPOWER: if unused, recharge at least every two weeks and keep about 60–80%. That is a seller instruction for that listing, and a fair habit for a small lithium box. Keep it cool and dry. If it will not hold charge after a few uses, that matches complaints on more than one of these pages, and it is a returns problem, not a panel problem.
