Portable power station buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You are looking at a small box on amazon.co.uk because a phone, a torch, or one low-power plug needs a battery you can carry, and the title leads with peak watts. A portable power station buying guide for this size is two checks: continuous watts for the device you will run, then watt-hours for how long that load can keep going. The five Solar storage listings saved here cost £69.99 to £129.99 and claim about 75 Wh to 111 Wh. A purchase through the main table can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. The rows are on the [Solar storage comparison](/hub/electrical-equipment/solar-storage).

Watts and watt-hours

Watts are the rate. Watt-hours are the tank. Read watt-hours, not a milliamp-hour contest. The MARBERO M82 states 88.8 Wh, also 24,000 mAh at 3.7 V. The M82 PLUS prints 98 Wh in one bullet and 111 Wh in the next. Do not average them. The SinKeu title is 99 Wh. The VTOMAN title is 89.6 Wh and a bullet also says 88.8 Wh. The VCLPOWER title is 75 Wh, while a specification cell says 75 kilowatt hours. That cell is a clash, not a house-sized battery. Which row fits phones only, and which fits one small mains plug, is on the best small solar generator page.

What an 80 to 150 watt socket can run

Continuous watts are the limit. Peak watts are a short spike, and these titles prefer the larger number. The M82 and the M82 PLUS both state 80 W continuous and 120 W peak. The VTOMAN spec line is 100 W. The SinKeu states 150 W at 230 V and 50 Hz. The VCLPOWER bullets do not describe a 230 V socket, and the spec voltage is 12 V. A UK round-up lists pumps around 50 W and around 130 W. An 80 W socket can miss a 130 W pump. How you refill whatever you buy is on how to charge a power station with solar.

Plug, waveform, and chemistry

UK mains are 230 V. A flex sold for a household socket is expected to meet BS 1363, or to use a compliant conversion plug with a BS 1362 fuse, under regulation 35 of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016. The saved files do not describe the pins. None of these five specification tables states pure sine or modified sine. UK reviews on the VTOMAN page say the AC output is modified sine. That is a review conclusion, not a reason to assume the other four are pure sine. VCLPOWER and VTOMAN say LiFePO4. MARBERO says lithium without that word, and SinKeu names none. VCLPOWER’s warranty text is truncated to “1.” The M82 PLUS and the SinKeu each print 12 months and “2 year manufacturer”.

Conflicts on the listing

A clash is part of the decision. The VCLPOWER panel bullet describes one 10 W panel with a 9.8 ft cable, and the included-components line says two panels. The M82 prints a solar window of 15–24 V at 1.2 A and says the panel is not included. The M82 PLUS does not print that window, so do not copy the M82’s numbers across. The M82 and the M82 PLUS both show 4.0 from 7,329, with overlapping text. That is one shared line, not two tests. When the load is the consumer unit, or evening use of roof solar, stop. Why you must not push a portable box back into a wall socket is on portable power station vs home battery.

Common questions

What is the difference between watts and watt-hours?
Watts are how fast energy can leave the socket. Watt-hours are how much is stored. An 80 W continuous rating means the load should stay under 80 W while it runs. An 88.8 Wh tank says how long a much smaller load might last, after conversion losses. Peak watts on these titles are not the running limit, and milliamp-hours at 3.7 V are not a second, larger battery.
Will 100 Wh run a kettle?
No. A UK kettle sits around 2,000–3,000 W on the DJI sizing guide, and the largest continuous claim here is 150 W on the SinKeu. A 99 Wh or 111 Wh figure does not change that. The box may still charge a phone. It will not boil water, run a heater, or keep a kitchen socket alive in a power cut.
Does the charger need a UK 13 A plug?
The adapter is what meets the wall, so it should suit a BS 1363 socket. Regulation 35 expects a proper UK plug, or a compliant conversion plug with the right fuse, on domestic flex-and-plug kit. These pages state adapter voltages, including 100–240 V on the MARBERO units, and they do not photograph the pins. Check the plug in the parcel before a trip.
Why do both MARBERO pages show 7,329 reviews?
The saved M82 and M82 PLUS pages show the same 4.0 from 7,329, and the stored review text overlaps. Treat that as one shared line, not as two independent tests, and not as proof that the PLUS, with its 98 Wh and 111 Wh bullets, was reviewed on its own. A fault in that text cannot be pinned to one ASIN from this scrape alone.
When is a home battery the right product instead?
When the energy has to feed the consumer unit, store roof surplus for the evening, or shift a tariff across the flat. A carry-box of about 75–111 Wh only runs what you plug into its own sockets. An installed battery is usually several kilowatt-hours, and it is not one of these five rows. Charging a portable from a wall socket is normal. Pushing it back into a wall socket to light the house is not.
