Bseed light switch no neutral for a UK switch drop

Updated: October 2026

The switch box has a permanent live, a switched live and an earth. There is no neutral parked on a switch terminal. A Bseed title that says neutral required will not land on that drop, and you must not fetch a neutral from the socket circuit beside it. This page on a Bseed light switch no neutral uses the ten amazon.co.uk listings in the [Bseed light switch comparison](/hub/electrical-equipment/bseed-light-switch). It is not a lab test. If the box has no neutral, you buy a listing that says so. Two Wi-Fi plates in this set say the opposite. Isolation, before any core is moved, is on [how to fit a Bseed light switch](/hub/electrical-equipment/bseed-light-switch/sub/bseed-light-switch-how-to-fit).

What no neutral means in a UK switch box

Most UK house lighting still loops the neutral at the ceiling rose. The cable that drops to the switch carries a permanent live and a switched live, plus an earth on a modern circuit. The switch joins those two lives when you turn the light on. It does not need a neutral to do that job. You tell the difference by what is terminated on the switch. A blue core with a brown sleeve is the switched live coming back from the lamp. It is not a neutral you can offer to B07VRWFSZY. If the sleeve is missing, do not decide the colour is enough. No neutral on a Bseed title means that plate will switch from permanent live and switched live only. The grey and black crystal rockers never say no neutral in the title.

Listings that say they do not need one

Five titles in this set say no neutral is required. B09B9NRM1W is the white 1 gang Wi-Fi plate at £18.90, with a module listed at 4 cm deep. The touch plates are B0872YTQ9M, B08B6526N2 and B08GLYQDD7. B0C3QTQFJ5 is the black PC toggle at £9.50. The three touch plates also carry a NOTE that they have no Wi-Fi. Only B09B9NRM1W, among the Wi-Fi titles, says it does not need a neutral. Two titles need one. B07VRWFSZY at £16.90 says neutral required. B08Z3S57N2 at £32.90 says a neutral is needed. The E-series toggle B0DT6GVVBS at £8.28 never mentions a neutral. One UK review says it needs live and neutral. That single report is enough to keep the cheapest plate off a no-neutral shortlist. Wi-Fi versus the NOTE touch plates is on Bseed Wi-Fi vs touch switch.

The capacitor is not a neutral

The no-neutral Wi-Fi plate still needs a path for its electronics at the lamp, not as a hidden neutral in the switch. Bseed’s FAQ says the single-wire Wi-Fi units ship with a capacitor. Reviews on B09B9NRM1W, under a 4.0 from 153 line, mention fitting that capacitor at the light and mention flicker. The capacitor does not create a neutral you can then lend to B07VRWFSZY or the two-pack. This module is the deepest Wi-Fi body here at 4 cm. A correct no-neutral title in a box that will not close is still a failed install.

Do not borrow a neutral

Electrical Safety First’s isolation guidance says a neutral taken from another circuit can become live. If you open the lighting breaker and the neutral you tapped is still referenced to the socket circuit, that core is not dead because the lamp is dark. If B07VRWFSZY or B08Z3S57N2 is the plate you wanted and the box has no neutral, you change the plate, not the house wiring, unless an electrician designs a proper neutral into that box. Do not use the earth as a substitute. Do not sleeve a switched live brown and call it neutral because the new module has an N terminal. If you cannot tell whether a neutral is present, refit nothing new.

Common questions

How do I tell if my switch has a neutral?
Look at what is on the switch terminals, not at how many cables enter the box. A one-way UK drop is often permanent live, switched live with a brown sleeve, and earth, with the neutral looped at the ceiling rose.
Which Bseed listings in this set need a neutral?
The titles that say so are B07VRWFSZY at £16.90, a 1 gang Wi-Fi plate, and B08Z3S57N2 at £32.90, two 2 gang Wi-Fi plates. The titles that say no neutral is required are B09B9NRM1W, B0872YTQ9M, B08B6526N2, B08GLYQDD7 and B0C3QTQFJ5.
Can I use the no-neutral Wi-Fi plate on a ceiling-loop circuit?
B09B9NRM1W is the Wi-Fi listing whose title says no neutral, so it is the one in this set aimed at a rose-loop drop. Reviews describe a capacitor at the lamp and a 4 cm module that will not sit in a 25 mm box.
What is the capacitor for?
On the single-wire Wi-Fi plate it gives the electronics a path when there is no neutral in the switch. Bseed’s FAQ says that capacitor ships with the unit, and the listing text puts an LED adapter at the lamp if you do not connect a neutral.
Can I take a neutral from the socket circuit beside it?
No. Electrical Safety First warns that a neutral borrowed from another circuit can become live.
Is a blue wire in the switch always a neutral?
No. In a UK switch drop the blue, or an older black, is often the switched live and should carry a brown sleeve.
Does no neutral mean the plate is also two-way?
No. No-neutral describes the conductors.
