Bseed light switch buying guide: neutral and depth

Updated: October 2026

You are about to order an 86 mm Bseed plate, and the amazon.co.uk titles do not describe one product. Some require a neutral. Some say they do not. Three touch listings say no Wi-Fi in a NOTE and Wi-Fi in the spec table. This Bseed light switch buying guide puts the decisions in order: the conductors, then the back box, then gang and way, then whether you want a phone at all. The ten listings in the [Bseed light switch comparison](/hub/electrical-equipment/bseed-light-switch) are the source. Shelf prices in those files run from £8.28 to £32.90. This is not a lab test. Colour is the last choice, not the first.

Start with the conductors in the box

Open the decision at the cable, before the finish. A UK lighting switch often has a permanent live, a switched live and an earth, and no neutral in that box, because the neutral loop stays at the ceiling rose. B07VRWFSZY at £16.90 and B08Z3S57N2 at £32.90 say a neutral is required. A neutral taken from another circuit can become live when you think the lighting circuit is dead. Five titles say no neutral is required: B09B9NRM1W, B0872YTQ9M, B08B6526N2, B08GLYQDD7 and B0C3QTQFJ5. The grey rocker B09TP59CVX and the black rocker B07XK7G8B4 do not say either way. The E-series toggle B0DT6GVVBS is silent, and one UK review says it needs live and neutral. Treat silence as unknown. A blue core in the switch is not automatically a neutral. If you cannot name the cores, use the no-neutral page.

Then measure the back box

Measure the existing box before you trust an 86 mm square. Plate switches belong on a BS 4662 or BS 5733 box with proper threads. A 16 mm plaster-depth box is the wrong assumption for almost every touch and Wi-Fi body in this set. Bseed’s own with-neutral Wi-Fi page asks for a wall box at least 35 mm deep. Modules that print about 3.5 cm include B07VRWFSZY, B08Z3S57N2 and the touch plates B0872YTQ9M, B08B6526N2 and B08GLYQDD7. B09B9NRM1W prints 4 cm, and reviews say a 25 mm box is too shallow. The grey crystal’s dimensions line says 2 cm. The PC toggle’s line also says 2 cm, while its bullets ask for at least 25 mm. A spacer or a deeper box can fix depth. It does not fix a neutral the title requires.

Gang, way, and whether you want a phone

One gang is one control on the plate. One way means the light is switched from that plate only. Two way means two positions, and on these Bseed touch listings it is not a promise that the new plate will partner the old mechanical switch. Bseed’s own notes say a touch two-way pairs with another touch plate. The black 2 gang touch NOTE says it cannot be used as 2 way at all. Read the title and the NOTE together, then ignore a spec-table 2-way cell that the NOTE contradicts. Non-smart touch plates are B0872YTQ9M, B08B6526N2 and B08GLYQDD7. Each NOTE says no Wi-Fi and not Alexa, and they are not dimmers. Real Wi-Fi, meaning the title says Wi-Fi or Smart Life, is B07VRWFSZY, B08Z3S57N2 and B09B9NRM1W. Touch versus a real radio is on Bseed Wi-Fi vs touch switch.

What the title does not prove

A bathroom word in a title is décor, not a zone rating. IET Section 701 keeps 230 V plate switches out of bathroom zones 0, 1 and 2. IP20 is not a splash rating. IP65 on B09B9NRM1W and B08GLYQDD7 is a listing cell, not permission to mount the switch in the wet zone. GOV.UK’s repairs page still excepts work around baths and showers. CE or RoHS cells, a TÜV line, or ANSI C-73 on the E-series are what the page prints. They are not a BS EN 60669 certificate. The grey and black crystal plates both show 4.2 from 954 reviews, and the written texts in this scrape match, so that is one pool.

Common questions

Do I need a neutral for a Bseed switch?
Only some titles need one. B07VRWFSZY at £16.90 and the two-pack B08Z3S57N2 at £32.90 say a neutral is required.
What is 1 gang and 1 way on these plates?
One gang is a single control on that plate, for one lighting point or one function. One way means you switch it from this position only.
Will an 86 mm plate fit a UK back box?
The face is 86 mm square, which is the usual UK plate size, but the module depth is the part that fails. Touch and Wi-Fi bodies here are about 3.5 cm or 4 cm, and Bseed’s Wi-Fi guidance asks for at least 35 mm.
Is the touch switch the same product as the Wi-Fi switch?
No. The touch plates B0872YTQ9M, B08B6526N2 and B08GLYQDD7 carry a NOTE that says no Wi-Fi and not Alexa, even where the spec table says Wi-Fi.
Can I put the plate in a bathroom because the title says so?
The word bathroom on a title, including the E-series and the white 2 gang touch, is not a zone approval. IET Section 701 keeps a 230 V plate switch out of bathroom zones 0, 1 and 2.
Why do two listings both show 4.2 from 954 reviews?
The grey crystal B09TP59CVX and the black crystal B07XK7G8B4 show the same star line in this scrape, and the written review texts match. Treat 954 as one shared pool, not two independent tests.
