1500W inverter buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You are about to sort amazon.co.uk by price, and every row in this set says 1500 W. A 360 g box with a lighter plug will sit next to a hard-wired unit that weighs several kilograms. This 1500W inverter buying guide is the order of checks to use before that sort: continuous watts, the waveform in the spec table, the output voltage, and how the unit joins the battery. The [1500W power inverter comparison](/hub/electrical-equipment/1500w-power-inverter) holds the twelve listings and the prices. This page does not pick a single winner. Nothing here was lab-tested. Continuous watts, not the peak

The number that has to match your appliance is the continuous rating, not the peak. SEC’s UK inverter sheet treats the appliance label as the continuous load, notes that start-up is often about twice that, and suggests roughly 20–50% headroom. That range is SEC’s suggestion for sizing. It is not a measurement we made on any of these twelve units. A kettle is already near the top of a 1500 W continuous line for as long as it boils. On the EDECOA 1500RUK the bullet limits 3000 W to under 10 ms, which is a spike, not a second kettle. JARXIOKE’s title says 1500 W and the wattage field says 4000 W. When two figures disagree, you do not have a surge you can plan a cable around.

Waveform and UK output voltage

UK mains are about 230 V at 50 Hz, and a domestic plug is BS 1363. Pure sine is the closer match to that supply. Modified sine is the cheaper stepped alternative. SEC’s account is that modified sine suits many resistive loads, while a motor, a compressor, a microwave, or audio gear is a better fit for a pure-sine listing. The full decision sits on the pure sine versus modified sine page. On a listing, use the spec table, not the title. CDDCWZ, SKJJM, and CMANLNYK print 110 V AC in the technical table, even where a bullet mentions a UK plug or UK compatible. A BS 1363 face on a 110 V output is not a UK kettle supply.

How it connects to the battery

A 1500 W load on 12 V is a rule-of-thumb 140–150 A once efficiency is included. That current does not pass through a cigarette-lighter plug. 12 Volt Planet’s published example for a 1000 W inverter is already 25 mm² cable, with the fuse on the positive lead next to the battery. Hard-wired rows still ship short leads. Giandel includes 60 cm battery cables. JARXIOKE lists 10 mm² clamps at about 50–60 cm. EDECOA’s cable-length field says 2 m. Cable size, fuse position, polarity, and the point where you stop and call an electrician are on the install page.

What the price bands in this set are buying

These are shelf prices on the amazon.co.uk listings we compared, not a survey of every inverter in the UK. The entry band is about £10–£43. Three of those print 110 V. The middle of this set is about £60–£110. The upper band is about £150–£173. If you know the job, the best 1500W inverter page names which listing to open and who should skip it.

Common questions

How do I tell pure sine from modified sine on a listing?
Read the spec table. EDECOA, Yinleader, VexNook, and CDDCWZ say modified sine there. Giandel, Flamezum, both Novopals, and JARXIOKE say pure sine there. A title can disagree. Do not treat the word sine in a title as the specification.
Is a cigarette-lighter plug able to feed 1500 W?
No. A lighter socket is a different, much smaller circuit than a fused lead on a leisure battery. The sub-1 kg rows in this set, including VexNook and the 110 V boxes, use a vehicle DC socket. They are not a substitute for clamps on a leisure battery.
Why do some UK listings say 110 V?
Because the title and the spec table were not written to the same standard. CDDCWZ, SKJJM, and CMANLNYK list 110 V AC in the technical details, while bullets mention a UK plug or UK compatibility. UK appliances in a camper or a shed expect about 230–240 V. A 13 A plug shape does not change the voltage printed in the table. Leave those three rows if you need mains voltage.
Should I buy 12 V or 24 V?
Buy the input voltage your battery bank already is. A 12 V inverter on a 24 V bank, or the reverse, is the wrong product. At 12 V the current is about twice the 24 V current for the same watts, so the cable and the fuse are heavier. The Novopal 24 V listing is the 24 V pure-sine row here, but one bullet still says 12 V. Follow the spec line that matches the bank.
Does a higher star rating prove the watts?
It does not. Eight reviews at 4.8 can outrank 452 reviews at 4.2 on a sort, and neither figure is a wattmeter. Use the stars as a satisfaction record, then check continuous watts, waveform, and output voltage on the same page.
What should I check in the box before the return window closes?
Confirm the socket faces, the input voltage on the label, and the thickness and length of the DC leads against the listing. Giandel’s highlight says a UK outlet and the bullet says two AC outlets. EDECOA’s title says UK outlets and the spec count is 1. If the leads are about half a metre of thin cable, they may not be the cable you should use at full load.
