1000W inverter buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You have typed 1000 W into amazon.co.uk because a kettle, a laptop charger or a small fridge needs mains power away from a wall socket. A 1000W inverter buying guide has to slow that search down. Continuous watts, a 12 V battery, an output near 230 V and a BS 1363 socket decide the shortlist before any star row does. Drop the listings that fail that filter and leave the remaining pure-sine rows to the [1000W power inverter comparison](/hub/electrical-equipment/1000w-power-inverter). Prices and stars are the amazon.co.uk figures stored for this set on 19 October 2026. The editorial team did not lab-test these inverters. What 1000 W continuous leaves out

The number that matters is the continuous rating, not the peak printed beside it. Every kept listing in this set claims 1000 W continuous and 2000 W peak. Peak is a short start-up, and it is not a second hour of running. If the appliance plate says more than 1000 W as its normal draw, this class is already too small. Laptops, phone chargers, a television and a compressor fridge under 1000 W are the loads this class is built around.

Voltage and the plug

UK leisure batteries are almost always 12 V, and UK appliances expect about 230 V at 50 Hz and a BS 1363 plug. Jectse B0B137KTP2 is 24 V in and 220 V out, modified sine, at £37.37, so it will not run from a single 12 V leisure battery. SUDOKEJI B0FYCJVVTD is £55.99: the title says 120 V AC, and a bullet and the table say 240 V. Cantonape B07WRQX9RS is 12 V to 230 V at £64.99, with universal sockets and a lighter lead limited to about 200 W. Cable size is on the how to wire a 1000W inverter page.

Pure sine as the default filter

The Camping and Caravanning Club describes a pure sine wave as the shape that matches mains electricity and suits any load type. In this set the modified rows are Cantonape at £64.99 and Jectse at £37.37. SUDOKEJI’s waveform claim does not repair the 120 V conflict, so it stays off the shortlist. The split is on the pure sine vs modified sine inverter page. The rows left are Renogy at £113.99, Novopal PS1000 at £113.19, the Novopal with the LCD at £159.99, Giandel at £145.99 and MINGHAOXIN at £79.99.

Price bands in this set

The entry band, about £37–£65, is Jectse, SUDOKEJI and Cantonape. The middle, about £80–£114, is MINGHAOXIN at £79.99, Novopal PS1000 at £113.19 and Renogy at £113.99. The higher pair is Giandel at £145.99 and the Novopal with the LCD at £159.99. You pay that gap for a stated 24-month warranty line on Giandel, or for a screen on the dearer Novopal, not for a higher continuous wattage.

Warranty lines that disagree

Giandel’s product field says two years and the bullets say 24 months, at £145.99. MINGHAOXIN’s field says 60 days. Novopal’s field says one year on both models. Cantonape’s bullet says 18 months. Jectse states no warranty in the fields we stored. Renogy is the clash: the bullets say a 2-year warranty and the product field says one year, at £113.99. Renogy’s own UK page describes a 2-year prorated warranty, and that page does not overrule the Amazon field.

Common questions

Is 1000 W continuous enough for a kettle?
Often no. Read the kettle’s rating plate. If the plate is above 1000 W, this inverter class cannot hold a boil, and a 2000 W peak line is only a short start-up. A practitioner table places many pod coffee machines around 1000–1300 W, which is a rule of thumb, not a measurement we made. One SUDOKEJI review describes a 1 kW coffee machine cutting out near 1200 W. That is a single report, and it matches the idea that peak watts are not spare continuous power.
What does 2000 W peak actually mean?
It is the short surge the listing claims while a motor or a compressor starts, not a second continuous rating. Every kept listing here prints 1000 W continuous and 2000 W peak. Cantonape’s wattage field also says 2000 W, which conflicts with its own 1000 W title, so you should not treat that field as extra running power. If the appliance runs for minutes, use the continuous number.
Do I need a UK socket or will a universal socket do?
You need a BS 1363 socket for a normal UK plug. Universal sockets, as on the Cantonape title, are a poor match, and a UK-shaped socket is not proof of 230 V. SUDOKEJI is the example: a review reports UK-shaped plugs with 120 V output, while the title and the table disagree with each other. Confirm the voltage in writing before you treat the plug as British mains.
Is 24 V the same product with a different battery?
No. A 24 V inverter needs a 24 V bank. Jectse in this set is 24 V to 220 V, modified sine, at £37.37, which can suit a lorry and does not suit a single 12 V leisure battery. Putting it on 12 V is not a wiring tweak. The rest of the shortlist is 12 V in.
Why would a cheap 1000 W inverter say 120 V in the title?
Because that listing may be a 120 V unit, whatever the plug looks like. SUDOKEJI’s title says 12 V DC to 120 V AC at £55.99, a bullet and the specification table say 240 V, and a UK review reports 120 V on UK-shaped sockets. Leave it unresolved. Do not fix a 120 V output with a travel adaptor and call it 230 V.
