Right angle drill buying guide

Updated: 2026-10-23

You are looking at four amazon.co.uk listings for a right angle drill, and two of them disagree with themselves about the battery and the chuck. This right angle drill buying guide is the checklist for those dedicated cordless tools, not a ranking. On 21 October 2026 the prices were £47.99 for the XIIW kit, £49.99 for the Einhell TE-AD 18 Li bare body, £85.50 for the Milwaukee 2415-20 and £99.99 for the Milwaukee C12 RAD-0. The table is our [right angle drill comparison](/hub/drilling-and-accessories/right-angle-drill). We did not run a lab test. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

Bare body or a kit

Read the title before you read the stars. The Einhell title says without battery, and the bullets say the charger is sold separately. The Milwaukee 2415-20 title says bare tool, and the included line is the unit and an instruction guide. The C12 RAD-0 first bullet says bare unit, even though another cell mentions 2 Ah. Only the XIIW title names a 12 V 2.0 Ah pack, at £47.99, while its included-components line only says the drill. If you own neither platform, a bare body is a second purchase. Written reviews say the XIIW pack does not fit Milwaukee or DeWalt, so the next question is whose battery it is.

Chuck, clutch and speed

A compact right angle drill here is built around a small chuck. The XIIW and the Einhell both state 10 mm keyless. The 2415-20 states a 3/8-inch ratcheting chuck, 9.5 mm, plus 11 clutch settings and drill mode. That 11 is a clutch, not an 11-speed gearbox. The C12 amazon file prints a 30 mm chuck and a 100 g weight. Neither figure describes a compact 12 V body beside a 29.3 cm length, so the comparison leaves the chuck unstated. Screwfix, for the same C12RAD-0, states a 10 mm keyless chuck, 12 Nm, 0–800 rpm and 1.1 kg without battery. Use that row beside the amazon file. Do not paste it over the amazon cells. More newton metres does not tighten a chuck. The XIIW has no clutch stages, and the Einhell amazon file has no clutch count.

Head length and stated capacity

Overall length includes the handle. The gap that matters is the head once the bit is fitted, because a 25 mm bit on a 10 mm chuck eats the clearance you bought the tool for. A UK review of the C12 RAD makes that the check, and another UK buyer found the body about 13 inches long and larger than the photo. Offer the tool into the cupboard with the battery off before you trust a dimension cell. On amazon.co.uk the Einhell states 10 mm in wood and 10 mm in metal. Screwfix lists 35 mm in wood and 10 mm in steel for the same TE-AD. Quote both wood figures. Do not merge them. The 2415-20 lists 25 mm in wood and 9.5 mm in metal. The C12 lists 22 mm in wood and 10 mm in metal. The XIIW states no wood or metal capacity, and none of these listings has a hammer mode.

What the stars do not say

Amazon shows 3.8 from 28 ratings on the XIIW, 4.6 from 464 on the Einhell, 4.5 from 205 on the C12 RAD-0 and 4.7 from 1,643 on the 2415-20. Those counts are not a laboratory, and they are not automatically a UK sample. The XIIW written block has no United Kingdom review in the file. The Einhell sample is the one with a clear UK share: 22 of the first 50 written reviews. The 2415-20's first 50 include only three from the United Kingdom. None of the four listings prints a vibration or noise figure, so there is no exposure sum to quote. At work the action value is still 2.5 m/s² A(8) and the limit is 5 m/s² A(8), and that duty needs the manual's declared value. If you are still holding a hex adaptor, right angle drill vs attachment is the next page.

Common questions

Does the listing include a battery and a charger?
Only the XIIW title names a 12 V 2.0 Ah battery, and its included-components line still says only the drill. The Einhell charger is sold separately. The 2415-20 included line is the unit and an instruction guide. The C12 RAD-0 first bullet says bare unit, beside a cell that mentions 2 Ah. Treat a bare or solo title as a body-only price.
Will the pack fit the tools I already own?
The Einhell takes Power X-Change 18 V packs. It does not say it takes Milwaukee M12. Both Milwaukee bodies here are M12 tools, sold without a pack. Written reviews of the XIIW say its pack does not fit Milwaukee or DeWalt, and two buyers could not find a spare from the seller. Match the platform on the packs already on your shelf before you compare torque.
What chuck size should I believe when two sources disagree?
Believe a figure that can describe a compact body, and say which cell you rejected. The XIIW and Einhell state 10 mm. The 2415-20 states 3/8 inch, 9.5 mm. The C12 amazon cell of 30 mm conflicts with a compact 12 V body, so this comparison does not use it. Screwfix states 10 mm for the same C12RAD-0. Howe Tools treats 10 mm as the steel shank limit.
Is there a clutch, or only a trigger?
The 2415-20 bullets state 11 clutch settings plus drill mode. That is not 11 gearbox speeds. Screwfix states 11 torque settings on the C12RAD-0, while the amazon comparison leaves that clutch unstated because the specification block is dirty. The XIIW prints two speeds and no clutch stages. The Einhell amazon file has no clutch count.
How long is the head once the bit is fitted?
Listing length includes the handle, so it is not the gap inside a cabinet. Fit the bit you will use, with the battery off, and offer the head into the cupboard. A short driver bit keeps the chuck back from the stile. A long bit gives that clearance away again.
